I first saw this when I was a kid. I named the little duck "Crazy," because of his crazy laugh and the crazy music that accompanied him. It wasn't until many years later that I learned his real name was Dingbat. I still think he's hilarious.

On the one hand, I tend to root for predators regardless of how a world is built. On the other, the owl and bluebird are clearly as intelligent as the fox and have a duty to protect their children from being eaten, and the fox has other food in his pantry (not just fruits and vegetables, but butter, bacon, and cuts of meat with bones). _Unfertilized_ bird eggs are just waste to the birds and should be eaten by somebody before they spoil, but _fertilized_ eggs are in fact baby birds. The Dingbat is clearly the unambiguous villain here, however, and I wish the fox could've just eaten him. Old cartoons tended to be inconsistent in their treatment of cats, and always negative to foxes and weasels. Foxes have been getting treated better since the 80s, but weasels are still go-to bad guy animals.

I think I have seen this character before, and believe he was meant to be similar to Tex Avery's Screwy Squirrel. If I remember arights the other cartoon I saw him in he was somewhat wackier. It was some kind of cartoonfest and the people in the audience booed the cartoon out of loyalty to Avery and Screwy. This character's wackyness doesn't work too well.
