Apparently the maidens village is removed from the war zone of the Zalinsky pathos and from all that I see she is blessed with a well equipped home and support buildings. I disagree. Withy our characterization of having a ‘hard life’. A simple life -yes, but with a level of comfort and tranquility long absent from the Western ethos.

She is living a very good life. The house and land seems to be hers, she has her Chickens. My Mom always says as long as you have Chickens you will never go hungry. She has her home, her land, her Chickens, her Water Well, all her Storage areas and her plants, she is planting Tomatoes. She has a built in Stove to cook and keep her warm, plenty of chop wood. While I’m watching, it reminds of my Oma who was born in The Ukraine in 1895. And I can relate in the stories she told me. Even the wood stove. Boy do I miss her and her borscht soup. And in the summer time she made a sour cherry soup to die for. Oma could make meal from just about anything. Never threw out food that was salvagable. And we never got sick. We had no “Expiry date in our food” All forgotten by our younger generation, who are fortunate enough to be able to buy most of these foods prepared for them. But preparing meals back then was almost a full time job. Loved the video

Amy, to others it may seem like a hard life when you must cook every day or perhaps not since she's got a refrigerator. As we get older it is hard to do everything like we did when we were young. I like making my own special Spanish dishes like "potaje" - special black eye peas from scratch which you have to let it soak overnight to soften the beans before you cook it. Plus, add ham hock, potatoes, carrots, you add the special spices which you sautéed onions, garlic, tomato sauce, salt and pepper. We also add olive oil and cooking sherry or red wine.to the pot and once you let it cook until everything is blended all you need is Cuban bread toasted, you're all set. You can make separate white rice to pour the soup over it if you like. It is hearty soup which you feel full and enjoy especially when the weather gets cold.

We worked hard in our garden And helped mom can the vegetables and fruit, made jams and jellies. Then i married a dairy, beef , hogs and chickens.Horses, 800 acres. , farm boy.

Hello from Alberta Canada. We have had many Ukranians come here because of the war happening in your country. You are a good people and glad to have them come. My husbands family was from West and East Germany. I learned to make the great dishes they taught me. Borscht was different than yours, I am thinking to try making your way. I am curious what the other dish was you ate with a spoon of honey I think you added. Looks like grain, raisins and poppy seeds as a dessert. I would like to try that also if I knew what it was. Keep up the great work, taking care of yourself and eating healthy. Cheers!

I love history, interviews, cooking, & learning about people, places & things so this is very interesting to me. It’s enriching & interesting to see how other people live & see what they cook along with picking up on customs, norma, etc She seems to be living a wholesome & balanced life but it is also very rural & demanding. As we all know sadly the backdrop of war & conflict clouds her existence - hopefully it is far away from her. She is alone possibly due to many men serving & dying sadly. Even if you don’t watch her excellent prepping & cooking skills it is actually relaxing to listen to - the ASMR if this video is off the charts. Listening to her moving, peeling, etc is soothing. I hope she continues to be safe & maintains her balanced lifestyle.
