Every Formula 1 driver has a story, but Esteban Ocon's humble beginnings and rise through the ranks is one that stands out. His parents sold their house and lived in a camper van, supporting Esteban as he entered the competitive karting circuit in France. Ocon didn't come from a wealthy background, therefore the sacrifices his parents made and the risks they took only motivated Esteban to succeed and reach Formula 1. Through all the hardships and setbacks, Esteban proved his talent to the world and became a Formula 1 driver. He got a race win at the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix which has become one of the most wholesome moments in Formula 1, considering his extraordinary story. Enjoy!

@@balex27gaming29 Yeah that was all erased at a career ending crash at Hockenheim in 1982. The same year the outrage with Gilles Villeneuve broke out with that win in Imola that I alleged he wasn't supposed to win. Gilles Villeneuve would die in a fatal crash in qualifying at Zolda 2 weeks later while Didier Peroni as I've said had a career ending crash at Hockenheim that same year. Both drivers were driving for Ferrari that season.
@JohnFromAccounting

@@RBMapleLeaf The Ferrari drivers were instructed to hold position at the end. Pironi ignored this instruction and overtook Gilles for the win. Gilles was furious because he was driving under the impression that both of them would stay where they were, and Gilles would win the race since he had been faster the entire weekend. It made Gilles so upset that he wanted to prove that Pironi wasn't faster than him by lapping Zolder faster than anyone. With Gilles' death and Pironi's career ending crash, it's still incredible to me that Keke Rosberg was only just able to take the title at the end, despite both of his title rivals being unable to race.

He is what he is. Not the top of the grid superstar driver who win the bulk of the races and gets the preferred seats and make the most money. But, being in the top 5-10 drivers on the grid means you get a nice long F1 career and can win races if the team you drive for is up to the task.

@@kolour7611 Ocon actually outqualified Perez and tied him in race finishes during their time as teammates, and at the time, Ocon was a rookie going against the experienced Perez. Against Ricciardo, Ocon didn't have a seat in 2019 and Ricciardo had arguably his best season in F1. Alonso is one of the greats and is still a top 3/4 driver at the ripe old age of 41. Ocon has that motocross mindset, a lot of those kids like Ocon who don’t come from millionaire parents often become the provider of the family ( a great documentary on this is “2 be continued “ about multiple time Supercross champion Ryan Villopoto) people like him race hard cause growing up 2nd place meant less money for your family so you take more chances and become aggressive for survival. Anything less than outworking everyone on the grid is failure because he knows better than most how rare first chances are and how even rarer 2nd chances are

I understand how fans might not like him because he is super aggressive and won’t give an inch to anybody, but that makes him exciting to watch. Shame he’s always in the mid-field, cause we dont get to see it often, apart from that AWESOME tussle with Alonso, for lap after lap in Jeddah. I enjoy having him on the grid because he is super consistent and solid and off-track he is a really jolly guy. I look forward to see where his career goes. Can I also say, Hungary 2021 came 5th in the fan rankings for favourite races of 2021, which I think is a crime. We had the lap one carnage, changeable conditions, which lead to the bizzarre Hamilton-only restart, that incredible dice with Alonso, the Williams duo holding top 10 positions for a long time, coming home to score double points and of course, Ocon vs Seb, lap after lap. Even after that, we had the fuel infringement drama with Ocon and Seb stopping and running back to the paddock, Seb sadly being DSQ afterwards. What a race that was, the best I’ve ever seen, beats every race I’ve watched at Interlagos.

What really infuriates me about him is that though he is an exceptional talent, he is someone who prefers to bring others down to push himself up. He likes to make critical comments of his teammates' ability in order to break them down mentally. He is also someone who doesn't like when he is not the top dog within the team. Whenever he is challenged by his teammate he becomes very frustrated and vents his frustration out to the media and towards his teammate.

Ocon is underrated because he isn't that popular compared to Leclerc, Norris, even Gasly. Ocon is a very quick driver. He did well up against Checo, and Alonso and they're drivers that I rate highly, especially Alonso. I even think a 41 year Alonso could win a championship had he been given that Red Bull, so the fact Ocon was even somewhat close to him is quite impressive to say the least. Ocon overall had a solid and consistent season with some standouts like Spa and Suzuka and some low points like Imola and COTA. However his teamwork is questionable at best he had a lot of collisions with Perez, though Checo deserves his large share of blame as well, and unnecessarily defending against Alonso did rub me off the wrong way. I am excited to see how he does next year against Gasly though I think either the 2 childhood enemies will clash when the adrenaline hits the roof, or Ocon will be so far ahead.

I don't think Ocon was that close to him in 2022, but because of the reliability issues that showed up in half of Alonso's races, it makes it seem like Ocon could hold his own against him. He lost easily 50-60 points to reliability problems, with a podium being lost at Montreal, a potential front row start lost at Melbourne, and strong finishes at Singapore and Mexico disappearing into thin air. Alonso was decisively better than Ocon.

@@JohnFromAccounting Even with that 50-60 points added in total if we didn’t add that. Alpine would be nowhere near Mercedes. But way ahead of McLaren had it not been for the reliability of the A523 (That would be jaw dropping if Mercedes finished 4th last season) I think it’s unfair to compare Ocon with Gasly, that AT03 was rubbish than seeing James Bond drive that Aston Martin DB5. I think it’s unfair we compare both French drivers by the time Belgium or Hungary come around. If we scrutinize the statistics we already have however, they are on par with each other the tipping point to Gasly as he has 3 podiums to Ocon’s 2. Both have 1 win a piece. I think it will be interesting to see how both perform this up and coming season. But let’s not compare both despite the statistics we already have.

In Perez battles it was Always Checo who pushed over the limits. In Alonso battles it was just hard racing the reason he gets steak is coz Alonso is a fan favorite. If it Alonso was neither a teammate nor a popular driver those moves wouldn't bring hate from emotional negative fans like is the case. People just fail to realise that some drivers have strong wills and won't be the ones to back down and when two such characters fight for same tarmac then contact is inevitable and from there opinionated fans argue with emotions and pre-perceptions not facts

@@Le_equitabliste Norris survived, beat his multiple race winner driver teammates, and yet he didn't let Ocon or Alonso just passed through for free in the process.. The same as Valtteri Bottas or Sainz, let alone Leclerc and George which is on another level than Ocon.. And yes Max also on another level as race pace, and no matter how dickish Max is, Max never tried to Deliberately slow down Perez letting Lewis and Bottas through in the process in 2021 or slowing down Perez in Imola 2022 letting Leclerc, George and Norris through in the process..

Right, because we're comparing him to all the other F1 drivers, his field of work, not poor people in Africa because then everybody in the western world doesn't have a "hard" life.

To say a f1 driver has a hard life may be a bit of a stretch. Regardless it is good do to see someone climb the ranks on merit. He does come across as arrogant on occasion, which is never pretty, much less on someone with his backstory who should know better.
@retrobeans24

Really? To say Lewis had a hard life as a child and when he was gokarting isn’t a stretch? Sure not as bad as some but his parents spent basically everything they had for his go kart, used second hand tyres cause they couldn’t afford them. To say because someone made it means they never had hardship is so stupid.

@@LuisMartinsmw yes, I’m a fanboy, because I said someone went through hardships. Obviously, as I said, it’s not as bad as some other people went through, but he never had it easy. But why is it whenever Hamilton is brought it, people always try to discredit everything someone says because they are a “fanboy?” I’m not even a fan of Hamilton, but apparently because I said he went through hard times I am and everything I will ever say doesn’t mean anything.

Only won because of luck, definitely nothing to do with the fact he didn’t crack under the pressure, it was pure luck. He wasn’t the one driving the car, luck was driving the car. He wasn’t the one who came out on top and stayed there, luck was the one. Sure he got a little luck go get into the situation but he also had to driver the whole race without making a mistake under pressure and consistent enough that he could stay at the front.

I mean, he constantly progress and matched the pace of every one of his teammates (except Ricciardo but in an intense season after 1 year aside). He also won a race with the constant pressure of Vettel and never crash, which means he's both mentally solid and doesn't cost any money to his team. For me, he's the ideal leader of a midfield team, or the ideal n°2 of a top team.
