So Marina, you're telling me that there's one talkative male Norwegian out there who agreed to talk for almost 2 hours on a podcast. This man must be an exception to the general rule! 🙃 Informative and entertaining talk.

As a Norwegian I think this guy represents only himself and not all Norwegians, being it boys or girls. You can’t categorize people that much. Norwegians are all individuals and of different types or personalities. You can’t say that Norwegians are like this or that. We are all different. I have never experienced a Norwegian not wanting to talk with me even though we don’t know each other. It all depends on how you approach them.

The Julebord was a huge culture shock. I tend to separate my professional work from the partying and socializing so seeing my older bosses somehow magically gain the energy of a 17-year-old while binge drinking at the alcohol fountain was so crazy to me. Awkward social interactions happen. People show up at the professional workplace afterwards like nothing happened. I can't unsee what I just saw and no one talks about what happened at the Julebord.

Regarding the question at about 1.19 h regarding how Norwegians view sex growing up. As a Swede I don't remember us ever getting any kind of information how it would be good to wait with sex or anything like that. We were informed about the different ways to protect ourselves from pregnancies and STDs, that's it. We had a visit with school to the adolescence clinic- a clinic free for teenagers where we get free condoms, can get prescribed birth controls etc etc. They're not in communication with the parent. So it was a very non judgmental attitude.
@MMasterDE2 ай бұрын
Nobody telling you that should wait, or find someone special before doing it etc, that your first time happens only once etc, is kind of irresponsible and gross when talking to kids about it in my opinion. I actually live in Norway, and were told these things.

Was he inexperienced with relationships? I had trouble with my British husband being an absolutely inept gift giver (as in not bothering at all) but it wasn’t down to culture, he was baby of the family and never had a girlfriend before. He wasn’t used to having to dote on or take care of another person before. I was very hurt by it and told him it was emotionally abusive to neglect someone this way and he’s better now.

Most likely he visits or visited Spain in summer time which is quite a special moment even to the spanish people where we increase our tendency to approach people very much so should they be foreigners, let alone if they are blonde with blue eyes although i acknowledge this is not the case, that makes this interaction even more interesting. On the other hand, he most likely went to the coastal areas of Spain which also have an extra predisposition to being specially welcoming to foreigners also from an economic point of view. This spanish stereotype born out of this particular context and areas differs quite a lot from the interior and northern parts of Spain, but very specially from the interior . Not gonna say they are scandinavians but it's a whole different animal in comparison to this other Spain depicted or stereotypical. But there is one thing for sure, Spain, given its history where the scandinavians by the way had their part, is been very much exposed to many cultures and different people through millennials so i guess that that together with the climate, beaches and a very much tourism based economy explains the average spanish character.

The thing is that dating did not used to be so expensive. Taking a girl out to the movies and an ice cream was a "cheap date", affordable for everybody and very enjoyable. it would be "low maintenance" as Sondre puts it. In addition, if the young man wanted to see you, he would come to your family home and he would socialize with you, some friends, and your family. Your mother would feed him and he would be invited to Christmas parties and other events. Now dating is more isolated and one on one. Now going to the movies is $60 if you share the popcorn. Who can afford that ? I went to a boring, small neighborhood pub and on the menu, the basic hamburger was $31 !!!! So for a guy to invite you out for just a hamburger and a beer is going to cost almost $100 !! I am on the side of that men need to pay for dates. It is gallant and good manners. But even I can see that expecting a guy to pay $100 - $200 every time he sees you is unsustainable.
@joninator78583 ай бұрын
Splitting the bill seems like an easy fix for the problem, but since you think men 'need' to pay for dates, it kind of feels like this issue is partly self-inflicted.

Free meal women are very common in the US. The more attractive they are, the more likely you, as a male, will just be used to pay for a meal because she is bored on whatever night it is. They have their list of guys on their phones and they sure as hell know who the pushover free meal guys are. That is why as an American guy, if I am going on a date, it is clarified up front that we are splitting the bill long before we get to wherever we are going. If there is another date after that, it will also be split. This method quickly washes away the women who are only interested in using you for your wallet, versus actually interested in spending time with you.
