Former DCP, if you do take the bus prepare to have a lot of random bus breakdowns, crashes, possible fires, and have your managers number on speed dial. Also make sure you know when daylight savings is. Especially if you work the night shift cause if you end up working overtime and miss the bus you may end up waiting hours for someone to get you, calling an uber, or having a bus driver screaming at you on the phone for not getting on the bus when you were supposed to.

As a former DCP cast member (MK Custodial, I still miss those guys a lot), I personally have a big piece of advice for those using the Flamingo Crossings buses: When going to work, start getting ready 2 hours before your shift. That way, you make it to your place of work on time, if not early. I usually got to Westclock bus at MK anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour early, which gave me plenty of time to grab a snack from the Mousekateria, (or sometimes dinner if I wouldn’t get a lunch break), and begin my day.

@@rhaynuxno it’s bc the buses are actually super unreliable, and our leaders don’t care if a bus issue made us late for work…also almost every route only runs once per hour, and they can overfill pretty quickly. @@rhaynuxright? I commuted with public transport in an European country for 3 years in uni (bus+train+metro) and 3 years for work (same city commute, took me about 1 hour with bus and 2 metro switches) Unreliable is getting on a train that was running 4 hours late instead of yours that was mia just to have a jumper on the metro shut down a whole line and getting to uni 3 hours late. A bus that runs every hour isn't that big of an issue, my bus to the train station ran 4 times a day. 2 morning, 2 evening rounds.

Had a friend who went through the DCP and ended up staying an extra year as a cast member outside the program as well. They loved the program but as things went on, realized little things (and little things thar added up to big things) that bothered them to the point where it was almost hostile, so they left earlier this year. I know their feelings definitely changed about the job as time went on, going from loving it to almost entirely hating it over the course of the years they worked there, but sometimes that happens with a job. I don't think they regret it at all though and made plenty of friends through it!

i’ve spoken to many disney crew members at different resorts, parks, and cruises. the general consensus is being a cruise teen club counselor is the absolute best job!! i had an absolutely amazing experience in Vibe and i got to ask the crew from all different parts of the world what their favorite job at disney was. many of them have worked at different parks like paris or japan, and they’ve had many roles throughout their career. when i asked what they’d recommend, they always enthusiastically would say being a teen club counselor has been the absolute best. and we loved them, we thought it would be weird at first being watched but they actually participated a lot and most were in their 20s or early 30s so it was actually more of a big sibling dynamic! i’ve been on many cruises but nothing could compare to the days i spent in Vibe and the counselors who spent time with us.

I majored in theatre tech/design in Florida and every advisor in the theatre department as a whole seriously discouraged it. The university I transferred from in New York had a zero tolerance policy on DCP dreams. Basically, unless you are interested in working at Disney specifically, or being in the hospitality industry, it is not worth the time and effort, and if you want to be a human face character actor, you are better off doing local/regional theatre internships for experience. DCP is just cheap, ununionized labor. Disney has expanded the roles DCP employees can be put in, and it is seriously damaging the guest services experience. Right now they have DCP employees denying people accessibility accommodations, and I am highly suspicious that it's because unionized employees have the power to do something about it. Everyone my family has talked to in this process who is a DCP employee hates what they're doing to disabled guests. I personally can't go to Disney anymore because of the disability access pass being taken from me (universal is loving my money though) and the only way to keep it up is by hiring people with no recourse. The DCP is genuinely a morally corrupt system, and participating in it takes away local jobs and whittles away what's left of Disney Magic.

1. You will be working 6 day weeks more than likely. You also get stuck working worse hours than everyone else usually closing. 2. Less pay than everyone else. You are better off working part time/picking up extra shifts and then applying to guild for free college. They cover 12 credit hours a semester. While a good experience, still think CP’s are treated badly and part-time is so much better

Since the first time I went to Disney World with my Uncle (around 8 or so) we’ve had a plan in place that he would retire in Orlando, I would finish my basics in college, and move in with him to start the DCP. 10 years later I’m still a huge Disney adult, but have realized that modern day DCP is not what it once was. If you want to get started in Disney and you’re a young adult, I’d highly suggest opting for the Disney Internships route. You’re still employed by Disney, you still get Disney perks, but you get your foot in the door of a better paying job!! Look for whatever you majored in if you went to college, they have positions all over the world!!

Yeah my best friend did DCP and said it was tough watching many of her peers refuse to say anything critical about Disney, especially regarding how they pay and treat their workers. Like it was unthinkable that Disney might not be a perfect, benevolent company. And several of those same people either dropped out to work at Disney like that girl you know did, and others finished college only to return to Disney to take minimum wage jobs. If they're happy, that's awesome, but you gotta raise an eyebrow at the level of brand loyalty it takes to get employees under your spell to that degree. Pretty weird 😅

As a CM, my advice for anybody is to know that it is a job first. If you come here with an idea of just visiting the parks everyday, you’re going to have a bad time. You will get tired from working late most of the time because the FT and PT CMs tend to get the better shifts. Don’t get me wrong, you will get your park time and you’ll make plenty of memories with the people you work with or live with but it is and always will be about the job first. Working here has its fun days and not so fun days, just like any job. You can make it’s a fun experience or a miserable one. I’ve seen countless amounts of CPs love it or leave because they can’t handle it. So it’s all about your mindset going into it. I personally think the good days outweigh the bad ones, but that’s because I’ve had way worse jobs. In the end not everybody can say they work at the busiest theme park resort in the world and that’s a good feeling to have honestly. So many people probably wish they could be in the position that we’re in and that’s the mindset that I’d definitely recommend having

I did the DCP and it sucked. They pay you practically nothing and work you open to close, so it’s a scam for free labor. They say they take rent out of your check but each time the amount is inconsistent and seems like if you make more they will take more even though rent is supposed to be flat rate. My mom got cancer and they refused to allow me time off to go care for her. Also if you continue to take college courses like most college students have to they will not allow you to take time off to take your exams if you have a professor that schedules the exam during your scheduled hours. This is NOT a college program it is a scam for free labor rewarded with free entry to the parks so you can give the $50 paycheck they paid you right back to the parks!

This was the best thing I've ever done due to the fact I had great roommates for the most part, met so much good people at my location, had a great role, and had a great location to work at. However, I met so much ppl who had the total opposite and hated everything about it and listening to what they've been through I would've been miserable in their shoes. Main take away, if you're not in a location you like it can be very difficult to enjoy. The program also is hard to live in. Rent sucks, pay sucks, and hours can be grueling depending on location and role. Good luck to everyone who joins because it can be great or it can be terrible

I got VERY lucky with my DCP! First, I was placed in EPCOT as a theater attendant/closer! Considering I worked in a resort town for nine years, it was clear somewhere tourist facing was where I should be. My three flatmates were great too! We got along, coexisted with little issue. My roommate even baked me cookies for my arrival! And due to my place of work and someone needing a wheelchair accessible bus, my bus was mostly on time with just one route (my flamingo crossing, the other flamingo crossing, and EPCOT). So was I blessed? 100% I heard horror stories come from the DCP, I’m just grateful my time was so full of laughter and magic.

I worked 02-04 and tbh I never talked to any of my roommates. Just made sure space was clean, caused no fuss over things and kept it moving. One thing I can tell you all is your at a job to work not make friends. Helps you just go do your job n go home with sanity and drama free

If you want to work for disney just go in for a part time or full time. You get all the benefits including the union. Dcp only get discounts on merch, which is just disney getting their money back. Also the provided busses do catch fire or crash often enough that it isn't even surprising. And if your coordinator is mean they will still dock you points for being late.

Funny this is what came up. Im in my first semester of community college and it offers a DCP program for sophomores. I was looking for information about it to see if it was something I would be interest in because I've always loved Disney, but didn't know if I wanted to work there. What a divine message am I right?

Hopefully the buses don’t catch on fire anymore. There was always one per semester at least (did my program in 2016)

I did it way back in 2007 and agree with everything you said, except I went with my best friend and they let us live in a one bedroom in Chatham, so I didn’t have to worry about stranger roommates! I think we were very lucky to have been allowed to do that though, especially considering I was 21 and she was 20

I see a lot of happy things here but… my friend did the DCP program and got the unlucky draw and was janitorial service after the program. Magic Kingdom and Epcot. She has an honors degree and wants to get into Animal Kingdom but it’s still an application and hope I wish her the best as always I’m just so sorry for her

I was a cast member and the number of DCP youthful who had shiny hope in their eyes to later looking like they came from a ravaged 3rd world country was quite high and only took about 3-6 months. 😂

What's the benefit of doing the DCP? Unless your going into the hospitality field, how does working an entry level job at Disney help your resume?

i did DCP back in the late 90s, lived in their Buena Vista Apts.. had 3 roommates.. was an attractions Host for Splash Mountain and The Country Bear Jamboree. had the BEST time, Buena Vista had parties every weekend. A lot of us would go to Pleasure Island on Cast member night every week and just well had a blast. Met Nsync, Roger Clemens, and Diana Ross. I would do it all over again if i could..

I’m an artist so the closest I’d get to Disney is an art internship but I am NOT doing that. If im gonna intern I’m gonna do an anime company or smth cause my art style is anime leaning not 3d modeling

My sister, brother and his wife(girlfriend at the time) did the DCP and my brother really enjoyed it his wife in the other hand was very homesick but they got to share a room at flamingo crossing. He didn’t want to leave she was definitely ready to go home. My sister didn’t really enjoy it either because her roommate was messy and made her put her ESA in a cage well she was out. My sister worked the ride Mickey and Minnie’s run away railroad and got sick of the song real fast.

I worked seasonally in college and when I worked there we got OT for anything over 8 hours in a day and the college program participants did not.

Maybe it was different when you worked there, but as of two years ago when did the college program, cp employees do get ot for anything worked over 8 hours in a day as well as ot for anything over 40 hours in a week, so there were actually great opportunities to get over time pay.

Looking through the comments, what I’ll say is that alums and supporters of the DCP all seem to enjoy it because they enjoyed working at Disney, people who posted negative comments focus more on pay and treatment, and treat the DCP as a job and less as a dream. If your lifelong dream is to work at Disney, go for it. If you care more about pay and treatment, don’t do it.

2024-25 Alum. All true. Custodian was not my first choice, I had at least one verbal disagreement with all my roommates (mostly about health and heigene), and the bus loops at Flamingo Crossings needs a few updates. Also schedule issues can be an entire episode on its own
