Also, Idris still won the revenge. He killed his dad for abusing him. Then manipulated his brother into becoming everything his dad was trying to keep him from being. True revenge.

My favorite character was Cuffee. I know when they were planning to rob the bank in Maysville aka White Town (which was literally white because there was no color in that place which I'm sure was deliberate), and the big reveal was that she was a girl, I thought "That wasn't obvious?" I knew she was a female from jump. Anyway, I liked her character a lot and was glad she didn't die.

I absolutely loved this movie!! The way that it began with Nat Love being forced to watch Rufus Buck murder his parents was a touch of brilliance, IMO, because it made for the perfect prologue while giving you every reason to invest in Nat Love's revenge. And given the simplicity of it, from a narrative perspective, it felt remarkably fresh. So much of that, I believe, has to do with the writing. The action and violence were completely unsparing, which they let you know early with Nat's parents, and I think that allowed for them to really lean into comedy without it seeming like some kind of spoof -- something which would've been all too easy as an all-black western starring a number of famous comedians. Of all the directors out there capable of threading that needle, the only one that comes to mind for me is Quentin Tarantino and this film felt like it could've been one of his own. It had the revenge element, the brilliant twist (with Rufus Buck's confession at the end), and was visually just incredible -- not to mention cast to perfection. Regina King was amazing! Lakeith Stanfield was amazing! Moreover, the lesser known actors who were outstanding; Cuffee, Jim Beckworth, Bill Pickett, etc. Even Deon Cole as the mayor of Redwood, a mostly serious role, where he was (again) just brilliant! One of my favorite scenes, by the way, was in the very beginning when the Nat Love Gang was setup in the mountains trying to ambush the Crimson Gang. I love when they're all taken out and it's just Damon's character left, and he goes; "You killed my brother!" and Fast Draw Jim goes "Half-brother, calm down". 😂 Favorite film of the year, at least for me, is still far and away "Judas and the Black Messiah", but on pure entertainment value alone this one deserves to be somewhere very high on the list. It felt exciting the whole way through, and honestly by the end I almost felt for Rufus Buck. I can see how they were able to land so many stars to do this film, because the story itself really is so much more than just a western. Not to say it's the deepest film I've ever seen -- it's certainly no Inception -- but it absolutely hit on what it wanted to be, which I feel like earns it a very high grade. Overall: 8.5/10.

Factss...check out Eternals...but watch the movie first. I missed Tony so much, I watched the review first, knowing that I was going to watch the movie...then I went back and watched the review again...twice! On my firestick, it cut off before the post scenes.

Enjoyed the movie and the Cinematography but the most beautiful shot of the movie is when Mary walks into Rufus Salon and the music with the blue dancer 🤩

What I thought was powerful at the end was when Mary asked if the devil was dead and Nat Buck replies "I don't know". All this time he was going after "the devil" only to find out, he's got a little bit of "devil" in him too because of who his daddy was before he "changed"

I watched this movie first day it hit the flix. It was so good. Everyone did great. Surprises for me were Rj Cyler as Jim Beckwourth, I remember him from the last power rangers movie, meh. Deon Cole as Wiley Esco, I like how he came back on shit (also peep the scene where they catch him in the woods, his golds is gone, then he turn around and they back). Those my two surprises as great performances. Cuffee caught me cuz I didn't know her and Zazie too.

Could not agree more, particularly about Cherokee Bill -- he was my favorite, easily. Trudy was right there too but he really killed it for me.

What's funny about the movie's portrayal about Rufus Buck and Cherokee Bill is that they were more gentlemanly than their real counterparts. They were BAD and they were hardly over the other side of 20.
