The tree is most useful if you drop it on an early Iron Vein, because the more Iron blocks it ensnares with its roots, the more Iron it will produce.

I try for cobalt and 2 iron, but just 3 of whatever by the entrance is the main thing

How does it work exactly? Does anyone know? It seems that every turn it grows more roots. Assuming you don't trap it on an island, will the roots just keep growing randomly until it finds another resource vein? That seems like how it is to me. And if so, I think people are misusing it. Getting its roots into 2 or 3 veins seems quite good. But surely there's a cap on just how productive it can be

@@derrekgillespie413 While I'm not completely certain, I think there's a limit to how many blocks the roots can reach because in a number of cases where it's been planted with plenty of blocks to reach, it always seems to have stopped growing more roots, or at least slowing down immensely in how fast they spread. They also don't SEEM to affect blocks that aren't exposed. For example, if you plant it on the middle of a 3-wide island like the ones Skoottie digs, the roots don't pop up on the bottom, but have to grow around the edges to reach the bottom instead. EDIT: In this vid the roots DID seem to reach right through, so I guess it DOES spread through blocks that haven't been revealed.. My bad xD

That early water and cobalt could have been great boons for a tree. I watched someone reach top 50 something with a tree right there at the beginning on a cobalt and water. Worked out pretty well for him.

Got to the point where you don't take the second teleporter. Not sure about on relic hunt, but it is very useful for be able to teleport back to your teleporter after doing deep mining when playing late into a prestige round. Can also put the teleporter at key spots like tree or mushroom.

The tree is extremely strong IF you plan out very precicely the planting location and the tunnels around the area. It of course requires quite a bit of luck as well, to design the perfect spot, but if you do, you are in the money. The roots will spread and increase the growth. If you don't have a fairly good spot to plant, you might as well just plant it anywhere close to your middle tunnel and forget about it.

Yes, very addictive in the beginning but you find out what works for you and you end up just sticking with that. I have not bought the lazer sight in a long time. Perhaps they could randomize your upgrade possibilities, not so much a tree but an item you have to find in the mine, like a blueprint hunt or something.

I think it has a pretty fair amount of content, if you are score-minded. Optimising each run depending on layout and available resources is pretty fun, and the core loop is fantastic. Would be neat if you could have more things to slowly work towards, like unlocking a modifer that enables you to select one of three worlds or change a colour palette for one of the worlds to your choice - something that tricks the instant gratification monkey and doesn't screw with the amazing core loop.

45:38 the 2nd teleporter can be used to teleport you back to the relic teleporter in a daisy chain way lol. Not super useful but can be good if you go deep into the mine away from your stash

Skootie next time you have a water and a cobalt at top like, leave them and some ground in between connected. When you find tree you can plant it and get both water and cobalt from it. It'll be easy to check to even with teleporter

You can miss iron when digging with 3 tiles in-between tunnels, because iron can spawn in a cluster of 3 in a horizontal line. Though it may still be worth it.

that’s highly unlikely - for every 3-cluster block that starts in the middle line, there’s a 1 in 28 chance that it makes the straight pattern… not counting the fact that it needs to be far enough from the centre not to be noticed, which means it’s reasonable not to consider it..

Tree is in the unfortunate category of technically good items that're kinda shit in the current meta. To avoid stalling-exploits, the tree, much like the condenser, is based on cycle-progression rather than just time. As such, going double-cycles + repellent is effectively a MASSIVE anti-synergy with tree. Furthermore, people have been talking about how, if you drop it within reach of one cobalt and at least two iron blocks, it'll produce both resources. Long story short, for tree to be as powerful as possible, you'd need to run You Asked For It without double days or repellent. You'd also need to plan for where to plant it, leaving an iron node and a cobalt node near the top of the first zone/area/layer. You could consider saving those as the equivalent of spending those resources upgrading the tree. Much like Drillbert, leaving it unupgraded in a game-setup with maximum anti-synergy makes it about as awful as it gets. Sidenote, I haven't actually experimented with the tree a bunch, so this is all mostly circumstantial and inferred stuff.
