As they said, from what i know kanji are essentially stylized, artistic renditions of diagrams of the things they're talking about, or are formed from taking from other kanji. For example, the chinese kanji that represents the feudal farming society they used to have represents the literal structure of the homes and farms of the peasants, which was a 3x3 grid of square plots of land, the outer 8 fields of millet for peasants to grow, eat, and build their homes on while the central plot is rice that every farmer living around must tend to and is collected as tax.

Although, back when I was in high school we had one incredibly bitchy teacher that tried to let the grades stand even when every single person in the class failed including the straight A+ kids.
