I’ve been watching this vlog since the beginning and before that I was watching Bringing Up Bates. To be perfectly honest, I miss the early days when the families acted more like normal people. Social Media and all its perks and payments has changed them. Normal people cannot afford the extravagancies that influencers all the time. I miss just the fun loving real life, non sponsored vlogs of yesteryear. I miss the real life, 5 day work week, making ends meet lifestyle they used to have. I feel it was more relatable to most. I still like to watch and keep up with everyone, I just enjoyed it a bit more when it felt “more real”.

I agree it’s all about dressing to the nines now and fashion and spending tons of money. Ralph Lauren and Samba’s a Tesla a jeep all the trips. They used to have to wear dresses that came past their knees or down to the floor now most of the girls wear skimpy dresses. They’re great people but wow, things have changed.

We threw a huge, fancy Mickey Mouse themed party for my grandson's first birthday. When someone commented that that was a lot of money and work for something he won't even remember, my daughter responded that the first birthday isn't for the kid, it's for the parents to celebrate that they managed to keep this tiny human alive for an entire year. 😊 My grandson has autism and is non-verbal, and he will never appreciate that party, but it was a wonderful memory for my daughter. No, no one can prepare you for when your kids begin to grow up and become more independent. It's even harder when they become adults. Don't blink; it goes by so very quickly. ❤

I’m sorry. No offense. But we have over a 1000 kids living in tents whose homes were swept away in Helene. Snow in the mountains. It looks the same 50 days later as when it happened. Cadaver dogs every day still doing recovery. This is not the Stewart’s fault, but I can’t watch this today. Maybe later. Going through what we’ve gone through in Swannanoa, gives perspective to life. I do not think badly of anyone who has …in any way, but at this time I just can’t focus on this kind of extravagance (I’m referring to that party for a 1 yr. Old) when kids and families are living in tents across the street. 😢. I truly hope your kids had a great time. ❤ God bless y’all, and hug your family. Know how extremely blessed you are. You have to make them do certain things in the formative years that they " don't want to do " ie decorate the tree as a family. Because that teaches you work ethic, of pushing through a job or season you don't feel like doing. Also, how to compromise, share ect . Because no one as an adult likes to hang out with a whiny , or selfish individual.

not really, we went all out for my son's 1st birthday, jumping castle, petting zoo, fully catered. why? because he was an IVF baby after losing 4 babies prior, he arrived 6 weeks early and had some health issues afterwards. being a mum was always my dream and I was finally a mum, so I wanted to celebrate it in a big way because he is my whole world. Will he remember? nope he sure won't, and probably won't really understand just how much that milestone meant to me. But I sure will, and I'll have those memories for the rest of my life. My favorite episodes are Papa Bill and Janie videos. The playing horseshoes and croquet. Walking to the cows. The silly games and dress ups on I love you day. The sweet little presents that you bought each other by doing chores and saving because it was something that they would love to have. You are wonderful parents, but may need to take a step back.

Granted, I have a gigantic family, but it was my cousins 1st birthday and they rented...a Banquet hall😮 My Aunties, in their upper 80's, were in shock!!! I mean, we only turn 1 once in life😂 but was it more to feed the 'parents' ego? Or, for the baby 🤷♀️ who won't remember? I think in my family, clearly it's...ego. Narcissism 😅 Which, can create future narcissists when those children reach adulthood. Too many of those in the world. The saddest is, reaching adulthood, really, no one cares about another adults birthday, except for a select few. I grew up having descent family parties, nothing huge or lavish, but so much love and it was a real surprise, kind of sad, to realize, no one cares in the real world that it's your birthday😂 So many people in my family treat their children by overcompensating with praise, everything is yayyyy, good job, you're the best, so special etc., and seeing these children get older and many are adults are me, me, me, I, I, I people, narcissists! Disheartening to wreck the youth because of parents egos😢 and there are so many ill adjusted young adults that are entitled, self serving and so much more😢 Praise...NOT pedestals parents! Not saying the people in the video are like my family at all, just sharing my experience and I'm glad you shared yours!❤

I've had good years and bad years about older kids decorating the tree. However, because it is a family tradition, we have always said you have to help a little. Yes, we enforced it, even if that meant they helped put on candy canes and their ornmaments with their names on them only. I'm talking about our 14-17 year old sons. Thankfully, my husband agreed that some things you do as a family. I think it's up to the parents to set the tone, and figure out what you want to stick with when it comes to family traditions and children participating.

Agree!! I can’t imagine having let my 4 year old (who is now 21) tell me she wasn’t going to help decorate the tree, and just letting her have her way.. that is not about them growing up, in my opinion. It’s her not being made to do something that she just didn’t want to do. She already has a tree in her room and they got GIFTS under them.. why would she even care about the main tree.. Wow.. I’ve always loved this family but I’m kinda shocked by the parenting of Layla. This video just seemed different. 😢

Forgive me for leaving a second comment/personal opinion and an outsider’s perspective…. Precious Stewart family, it’s time to get back to the roots. Literally. Beautiful common sense, Biblical family living, simplicity, wholesome, clean, character building, living by example, teaching children to respect, honor their elders, immediate obedience not pouty responses etc. Trim back the extravagance, over indulgence, idolatry of children, constant need for attention, preoccupation with needing to be happy 24/7. Obviously not to the extreme of the previous IFB church teachings but instead instilling basic biblical principles. Even recently down to witnessing immodest dressing. The last few years I’ve witnessed especially Carlin wearing extremely inappropriate clothing like shorts that barely cover the bottom. As someone who’s forced to wear a burka when traveling to Pakistan and places in the Middle East for safety concerns I’ve experienced extreme modesty standards and crazy female expectations that are excessive. Not to mention restrictions of basic human/ female rights. However, just as it’s extreme to cover every inch of a woman’s body for modesty, it’s more extreme to expose a woman’s/ girl’s figure with indecent clothing or lack there of. I understand growing your own family, discovering G*d for yourself and seeking the answers to life for yourself and family. However there’s no middle ground when it comes to decency. Decency is an absolute. Either it’s decent or it’s not. Excessively finding the need to buy to excess, spoiling the children and seeing the pouting, lack of respect from children to parents, straying from traditional family roles, dressing immodestly, teaching worldly possessions are more important than incentivizing G*dly character development. From what little previous shows provided insight to daily lives of especially Carlins family not everything was rosy nor perfect. But I personally miss the beauty of witnessing glimpses of G*d’s character, love and genuine pursuit of what is right in the home. It taught the world that G*dly righteous living was attainable. Please pray about what G*d wants for you and your family. Hopefully whatever G*d places on your heart to change He gives you the courage to do so. Blessings and prayers yall.

These aren't the hardest parts of parenting. To me, this is like a few of the strands of the apron string tearing. The hard parts are when they are teenagers and they change. It's almost like a personality change. Not all kids go through it, but many do. You have to be patient and wait for them to come out of it--that is hard. You are no longer their favorite person, but often, the last person they want to talk to. That is hard! Throwing in my 2 cents about the party: I have to agree with a lot of the comments about it being so extravagant for a baby. While it's important to celebrate the life of a person, it comes across as showing off. Simply because a baby is not going to appreciate the work, time and expense put into it. Children are naturally simple and I think the negativity that you are seeing in the comments is the sorrow that we see when a child's simplicity is taken away from them. Parties like this only make them expect more and become worldly. It's sad. Sorry if it hurts feelings, that isn't my intention and I hope it doesn't. Just adding in my opinion.

I know you don't want any more opinions but I would flip the tree to the other side in front of the mirror (it's reflection in the mirror would look pretty), then put the white chairs one dividing the room, and one near the window on the other side. But it's your home and you picked out the perfect size tree.

I hate to see what she gets next year. People in N.C and Florida probably wont be able to give their kids a Christmas and people like that like to show off. I fast forward through the video cause it made me sick to watch. Zade was so cute helping with the tree

Agree. I fast forwarded most of this video. I enjoyed Michaela and Brandon's Q & A youtube video. They are so humble and wise.

Y'all are making me cry. Bcuz our daughter moved to VA the 28th of September and she says she's not coming home for the holidays. 💔 But she is 25. But in my heart she's still my baby. 😭😭

Matching pj's but Evan was the only one wearing them. lol You're a good sport, Evan. I would love to have a spouse as upbeat as you. Love the clothes you choose for Layla and Zade, Carlin. They always look so stylish and cute. I felt the sting of my daughter growing up when she turned 14. So long ago now. Keep kissing and hugging you two. MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

Our son is 23 years old. We still long for the days when he was little. We cannot wait for grandchildren so we can experience little ones all over again.

Oh boy I remember this stage of the game with my boys when they hit 5 it was over, they no longer needed mom to pick out their clothes, they had an opinion on their shoes. We adopted our daughter when she was 14 but we knew her since she was in Kindergarten with our older son so we had 3 teenagers at once so as you can imagine that was fun lol. Prayers to yall for strong little girls don’t dim her light

A good way to counter her: “I don’t want to, yall surprise me” would be to explain to her how much it means when you are all together and it’s about making the other family members feel loved when she spends time with them. If not, it might grow into an entitled attitude about a lot of the wonderful things you do for her.

Don’t mean to sound judgmental, but Layla needs to learn how to have a good attitude and happily spending time with family. If she always gets to choose and feels like she’s the boss on whether she wants to do things or not, then who’s parenting ? Who’s in charge of a situation? She needs to learn how to listen to parents without having her say. If parents always give in her winning then what’s it going to be like when she’s 15? Children thrive when there’s discipline in the house when they feel like dad and mom are in charge. That’s what the Bible teaches, to train up a child not child manipulating parents. Hope you see the message and hope she grows up to be a pleasant young lady, not a sassy spoiled one.

Take a shot every time Evan says "Oh my word". 3 minutes into the video... nope nevermind. Bad idea. 😂
