Emma if you happen to return to Baghdad perhaps you might want to visit the Kishla clock tower which has about 80 steps. I just read about it on the internet. It'd be a challenge for you to climb to the top if that's allowed. It was built in the 19th century by the Ottomans it says. The British occupied the building belonging to it during ww1. Ask those who know about it for more info.

Hatra is an Arab city that was destroyed by the Persians when they invaded. Likewise, the Kingdom of Manathira and its relics in Karbala was an Arab Christian who fought the Persians and won over them in the first war between the Arabs and the Persians, in which the Arabs defeated the Persians. all those are (Arabis before Islamic invasion)

It was the first arabic kingdom in Iraq also called kingdom of Araba, ie it was established by arabs and inhabited by arabs though it was under the control of the Persian/parthian empire who also sacked and destroyed it later. It got a lot of hellenestic figures as it was influenced by its religion as well as pre-Islamic Arab beliefs. Edit: Hatra was destroyed before by the Persian army before the Islamic conquest of Iraq. I think that archaeologist from mosul would've provided you with great information about this place as he's also a local to nineveh.
@WanderingEmma2 жыл бұрын
Yes he did , thank you … most people are telling me the Romans built Hatra but they didn’t .. they tried to invade it several times .. the archeologist told me a lot , I should’ve recorded everything he said as his knowledge was astounding and the history of this place itself is astounding! I’m in awe of this place as many others, also how much archeologists know ! I’ve never really spoken to archeologists in detail about things but they sure know their stuff!! I was lucky to have so much time with one and bombarded him with questions! Lol

Well as some one who is from on of the oldest cities in the world I have a huge passion for history and I was able to visit beautiful Hatra 2 weeks ago. It was almost a Mission Impossible since no one was ready to help me or tell me how and where to get the permit. They all were only trying to sell me the permit for 300+! Anyway I could manage it alone and without paying any bribe or permit or entrance fees, since there is none ! The permit if totally free, there is no entrance fee and you can have the permit either in Baghdad or Mosul. Dont listen to any tour guide or person who tries to sell you something which dosn't exist.

I guess Hatra was not perthians but it is may be the only roman site in all Iraq, and you can recognise this through the Bows within the structures, It includes lots of roman heritage including a wine press made out of stone connecting to a ditch passing the wine somewhere else in the city ( may be the only historical roman wine press in all of Iraq ).
@WanderingEmma2 жыл бұрын
🤔from UNESCO it says Parthian , which was then attacked a few times by the Roman’s , who didn’t succeed because it was so fortified… it’s history is huge , but it is of a same era as Petra in Jordan .. was just talking to an archeologist tonight about it actually too … soooo much history and so much is unknown about this era ( Parthian) .. lots of history 🇮🇶❤️

Welcome to Mesopotamia, urban Iraq. The capital of the Assyrians was one of the oldest civilizations in the world. It dates back to thousands of years BC. Iraq has suffered from wars in the last 40 years, siege and then the Enrique invasion, chaos, terrorist organizations, militias, mafias and corrupt government. Unfortunately, Iraq is one of the richest countries in the world, but Its wealth was stolen. If any country had gone through what Iraq went through, it would not have come on the map today. We hope that the situation will improve in the future in the great Iraq. Thank you, wonderful, we love you🤗❤️🇮🇶🙏🏻
