Even with evolution becoming a bit easier and/or more streamlined, there are still a handful of "hard" and tedious Pokemon to evolve in the newest generation, so I'll be going over all of those today!

Goldeingo is the 1000th Pokémon. It took me a while to figure out not only that but the evolution requirements. 999 Gimmigoul coins + 1 level = 1000th Pokémon. It also took me two days to get mine

The fact that Annihilape and Kingambit aren’t here is pretty shocking, cuz while their evolutions are pretty straightforward once you know what you’re doing, they’re still quite outside the box

Yeah especially for Kingambit. Like you have to have Bisharp defeat three other Bisharp that hold the Leader's Crest item which isn't too easy to find. I just got me a Kingambit from a Tera Raid battle. Even a 5 star one is less of a headache than trying to evolve that Bisharp lol

They honestly aren't that hard to evolve though. And Bisharp only has to defeat 3 boss Bisharps. Equip it with brickbreak and you'll OHKO them easy. You don't even have to hold the crest. I've evolved three Bisharps this way. Annhilape is also pretty easy.

Why? They are easy when you know the method, for annhilape just got to a Tauros spot, each tauros can take 2-3 rage fist, Kingambit is also easy because what you are looking for is in a specific zone

I do personally believe the linking cable should be standard. Trade evos are outdated at this point. I'm down with the new age style of evos, even if they are complicated sometimes. But as far as trade evos just include the link cable

The hardest is always going to be trade pokemon, any method that you cannot do on your own in your own game is going to always be the hardest because you are forever dependent on another person. Trade plus Pokemon holding an item is even worse. also, you don't need to be in the union circle to evolve palafin. just have a friend in your game. you can evolve palafin anywhere.

the easiest way to get Goldeingo is definitely collect from EVERY SINGLE grimighoul you come across. Of my friend group I evolved it first because I spent 89% of my time playing just exploring and filling the dex. You'd be surprised how often they are in subtle places. It is regardless though very amusing to do (although tedious). Another tip is KEEP SOUND ON. You will hear the grimighoul grumble whenever you are near it.

Great list, but I feel Goodra should be here as well. Since there’s no place in the game with guaranteed rainfall and you can’t manipulate the weather, I spent literally 3 hours running around Paldea before I found some rain to get him.

I hated Gholdengo so much. You don’t want to know how long I carried the Gimmighoul before chucking it in the box. Palafin was another one, because who ever decided you need a friend to evolve it is a pain

Trade evolution and finizen's evolution are just terrible in general , specialy after they made you pay for online services , usualy you just either ignore them or just try to figure out how to evolve it on you'r own , and we all know how much that sucks

@kraid I'm actually lucky to get Palafin in 5 Star Raid while I was offline. The same goes with trade evolution. The pain is checking all of them to see if you are going to get it or going on the switch clock going extra day forward and resetting it. That is not including that you have to be the post game for this to work.

Your first Gholdengo is very easy to get. However, once you get the initial chest spawns in the tower, the chest form Gimmighouls are very rare.

@@diggity1039 Yes they are. The initial spawns are 100% there on the towers and ruins. However, once you get them, there's only a 5% chance to spawn per day. Just evolved my 2nd Gholdengo this way. All sources such as Serebii also mentioned this. To say it is not, what source do you have to back it up? Just because you got lucky that it spawned doesn't mean the same thing happens to all of us. Also, do take note that I mentioned CHEST forms, not the roaming forms. Those are very common.

The let's go mechanic is absurdly easy. I got Pawmot in under five minutes when I did that. And you get decently strong pokemon in just level 19.

That for palafin, some people can't tell the difference between link trade(four digit code) to that of union circle(eight digit code). I evolved mine and the first code I got was a link code. The person too was looking for a palafin evolve.

I would use Finizen in a playthrough except for it's evolution method. I do have cousins who can help me with these kind of things, but they both work and syncing up when I'm playing with my cousins is not easy. I think outside of Haunter the only other trade evolution in this game is Schyter, and at least the Haunter you get tradeed for a Pinchurhin isn't holding an Everstone this time so you get a guaranteed Gengar out of that trade. There is a guy in Medali that will give you Gimmighoul coins everyday, and I think it's 20 so you could halt progress and just farm that guy for Gimmighoul coins, now that would take around 5 real world days to get 100 Gimmighoul coins, but it is a possibility

Took me about 4 hours to find all the coins . Luckily the chest do regenerate every few days. I was originally under the impression that there was only 999 coins in the whole game definitely makes it a lot easier that that’s not the case 🎉

Relatively, it's hard. Most Pokémon evolve just by giving them Experience/Rare Candies. Done in less than a minute. Others take a stone or item. If you have them, done in less than a minute. If you don't, you can buy them, I believe: Done in 3 minutes. Some Pokemon require trades. Still done in 5 minutes. Even using Rage Fist 20 times is pretty easy. Getting 50ish coins per chest and waiting for them to respawn or going out of the game to time travel is far, far more trouble. And in a video where you're discussing the _hardest Pokémon to evolve,_ finding ~20 chests after having to go online to find out where they are and wait for them to respawn is absolutely one of the hardest. I'll die on that hill.

The Let's Go ones are the worst I feel. One of BDSP's (many) criticisms was getting following Pokemon wrong. They are *not* fun when they can't keep up with the player. And they had MONTHS to come up with a solution for this if they wanted to put in the Let's Go feature to SV. So to tie not one but THREE evolution lines to this just sucks. I wanted to use Pawmot during my run but the hassle of evolving it when it couldn't keep up with me and when I wanted to actually use the Let's Go feature for what it was used for resetting the steps each time and not having any way to track my steps meant that I could not be bothered evolving Bramblin and Rellor. Gholdengo was overly tedious to evolve but these three just feel crap.

The way evolution methods are getting more convoluted by the generation, and being able to harvest resources from pokémon now, I'm half expecting some evolution in gen ten to involve giving the pokémon you need to evolve the goo of a virgin ditto or something

A fun thing I noticed about walking with slower Pokémon is that they can keep up with you well enough if you’re crouched. Not sure about pawmo, but it for sure works with rellor and bramblin

Finizen's evolution method is so infurating to me. Palafin is such a great Pokemon, and I've wanted a dolphin Pokemon for so long, and all of a sudden they decide to reintroduce a variation of trade evolutions after not having any new ones in over nine years? This is the one, singular new Pokemon they ended up putting behind a literal paywall? I could live with it if this was any system other than the switch, because at least it's safer than trusting strangers to trade your pokemon back, but it's such a slap in the face that I have to give up on using such a great Pokemon because I absolutely refuse to pay money for such an awful online service, especially not for the sole purpose of evolving a single Pokemon. F whoever decided that this was a good evolution method, it doesn't even make sense for what Finizen and Palafin are.

Lycanroc's evolution is not going to bother me . Got to remember the time 7:00-7:59 pm with the ability own tempo. Gholdengo's evolution is not that bad either but you have to know the tower name otherwise you will be roaming here and there along with miraidon or koriadon.

Evolution methods that need to be updated are: 1. Finizen evolving into Palafin is level 38 holding a hero’s mask as the item instead of the Union circle 2. Meltan evolving into Melmetal in core series is to have at least 2000 steps in the over world in let’s go mode 3. For trade evolutions, you can also use the linking cable besides just trade (some required to hold items and use linking cable) just like in Legends Arceus 4. Galarian Yamask evolving is to simply use a dusk stone 5. New evolution method: Pokémon clubhouse: give at least 2 affection with a fairy type move similar to Pokémon amie or refresh (petting returns) and give it at least 3 desserts 3 real time days in a row and the ones are: Eevee into Sylveon and Luvdisc into Diskheart

You can literally just force respawn Gimmighoul. There is one location that gives 10 coins, so I just visited that one over and over as well as other high yield spawns.

i overall appreciate the lets go mechanic. i think its smth weve needed and its helpful but goddamn is it buggy. they also need to just speed up most of the pokemon, or allow them to travel longer away/teleport back to you instead of going back into the ball.

Goodra was way harder for me. It was either raining at night, or I had just entered into an area where it was raining and I had to back into my boxes and put Sligoo into my team and by then the rain had stopped. Evolving Gimighul was easy, just had to visit the towers and ruins.

Gholdingo wasn’t that hard to get tbh. I think palafin and goodra were the hardest for me. Cuz I couldn’t find a person to join with for the dolphin and the game refused to rain

One thing to note: There has not been a new Pokemon introduced (not a regional form) that evolves by trade since XY. That method of evolution has clearly been deemphasized, and it bothers me why it hasn't been permanently changed. Also, what would Gimmighoul's evolution methos be in a future game if they didn't use the same method? My guess it would be spending a certain amount of money in total.

I’m playing sun and moon and I have a shiny hydreigon that I raised from an egg with exp. share on and it didn’t evolve until the last trial or last captain and then I had to beat the league twice for it to evolve into hydreigon! I also had a goodra on my team and I found that easier by comparison

The “Let’s Go” evo’s weren’t too bad tbh. Also, I had zero trouble evolving Goldhengo and I wasn’t even trying, I would just grab every roaming form I could and explore the towers or whatever and by the end, I had enough. I didn’t try because it seemed impossible to do early on so I just did it as I went and it wasn’t bad at all

I went through 20 Rockruff's in a early area and a pokemon with Trace to check Rockruff's ability. DIDN'T FIND A SINGLE ONE WITH OWN TEMPO. This percentage terrible in Gen 9

Also, also…the second Rockruff I caught had “own tempo” and I was like “hey, wait”. That’s when I found out I could finally get dusk form Lycanroc so that was cool. I had a pretty decent time with evo’s in my first run apparently, so that’s lucky. Still don’t have Palafin tho, so that sucks, but other than that lol

Trades are actually super easy this generation. I got them all in two minutes. Just use the dex numbers of the Pokemon for trade as link codes and you get matched with the perfect trade right away.

I have yet to find a SINGLE respawn of the chest, and due to some unknown shenanigans I didn't get enough coins until I had grabbed all but 1-2 chests, despite regularly getting 60 at a time and getting dozens of roaming forms dropping coins. Don't misunderstand, I LOVE Gholdengo, I've always appreciated steel types and consider myself a ghost trainer, but I'm not making another one unless I get a shiny. And finding a shiny might make me cry.

4:03 this one, you can catch a wild Volcarona- that’s what I did. Most mons you can catch the lvl evolution of in the wild; imo level evolutions are not an issue at all! The easy part imo 4:41 this one is THE worst; and imo was on the side of stupidly hard dex entry to get… For me Gholdengo would rank #1 in pain in the buns Pkmn to get this gen… 6:19 …. But thank goodness Dino can be caught at a really high lvl… If only Pkmn like this gave me the most trouble… That stupid Palafin and Gholdango just give the most grief… and like you already said, trade evolutions… But some trade evolutions we can get in the Dens so… Trade evolution collecting would imo finish just under Palafin who would finish under Gholdango…. Though those 32 spires to pull for those 4 legends should probably be in my top 3 lol… Used KZbin today to get those 32 thingies so I could get the four legends… I don’t know what I would have done without KZbin and ppl making videos to help with getting the hard stuff… 😅😰 7:00 good grief, YES, those 3 pains… Totally used the top of the Pokémon Center trick to help but still, even WITH that trick, what an obnoxious task to get those three!! The Rockruff thing… All I can say is, I know there is a Capsule you can get for a Pokémon’s ‘hidden’ ability… I had gotten one- but used it on my Volcorona to get it’s Flame Body ability…. 😰 Idk if Own Tempo is Rockruff’s hidden or not but with my luck, it probably is… And I don’t even remember where or when I had gotten that special Capsule.. 😢😰😰

I don’t mind atypical evolutions as long as I can look them up. I would -never- have guessed how to evolve my Kingambit otherwise. Trading or friend evolutions need to just stop.

I know how the walking volve should work. But once I'd done it with 1, the other 2 just evolved without me doing it. Clearly a glitch, but only need to do one.

Getting trade evolutions on the Switch Pokemon games isn't cheap. You either need a Nintendo Switch Online subscription or a second Switch unless you have a friend nearby to help

Did you face lots of rockruffs with a lead pokemon with Intimidate? They're not too uncommon. Worst shiny imo is Salazzle. Female salandit are so hard to find...That said Salazzle does spawn in world...but still...

I always hated trade evolutions. But the whole finizen part is even worse. NONE of my friends play Pokémon. This is one of the only ones missing for my Pokédex. Why would they do that.

I wouldn't say gimighoul is hard to evolve it just takes a while cuz the whole 999 gimighoul coin requirement but they aren't exactly hard to find

How long it took me to get enough coins for gholdengo? About 5 minutes. I only had 100 something coins and on my second or third chest I beat one that gave me 700+ coins.

@@diggity1039 And yet that's the only explanation for how I went from under 200 to 999 coins within a single fight. Maybe it's a glitch, maybe there's a 1/1000 chance you get a lot, who knows.

Exp. Candies make them easier but you have to be at the point in the game where you can get higher level Exp. Candies.

that was just PLA Sw/Sh and BD/SP still had them, it's just that there's no longer any new pokemon that evolve that way since Gen 7 (or in general since Gen 8)
