We took a day trip from Munich to see the famous Neuschwanstein Castle near the Germany-Austria border, but due to a variety of factors, we were not able to get close to it at all. We did go on the English speaking tour of Hohenschwangau Castle, which we enjoyed very much, and we had a very good meal at Muller Hotel & Restaurant, but we didn't have enough time to visit the Museum of Bavarian Kings, which we had tickets for.

Hello fellow Wisconsinite! I picked up on your accent right away. 😉 My husband and I visited Germany last fall and toured Neuschwanstein Castle. It was a gorgeous time of year for us, sorry the weather wasn't the best on your trip. 😕 We have friends who live there, so instead of a train, we were fortunate to be able to drive. Hope the rest of your trip was great. It's such a beautiful country.

Well I was shocked too that there was nothing in german while being on the JFK airport. And not one salesperson could even answer me as i walked to them and asked 'Sorry do you speak deutsch'.

Well, just under 100 million people speak German as their mother tongue, but 1.35 billion people speak English, so that does not actually surprise me. In the United States, you are much more likely to find Spanish speakers than any other language besides English. It's very difficult to even find German language classes in U.S. schools.

@@HeatherTravels I know, it was sarcastic. Knowing english aint no problem for europeans, we kinda all know it and even understand the bri'ish (mostly). It is just irritating hearing americans complaining about other languages in other countries.

We definitely weren't complaining. We were just genuinely surprised by how many people we encountered who genuinely did not speak any English at all, and felt that it was important for travelers to know that they should be prepared to learn some German if they're going to travel to Germany.
