the celtics don’t feel like a team that’s built around tatum, they just seem like a team that’s really good that tatum is best player on. i’m not saying that tatum is easily replaceable because he isn’t, but this team isn’t built to for him to have his strengths maximized, they use to him to minimize the weaknesses of everyone else. tatum is one of the best “all around” players, his teammates aren’t, so to me it feels like they have everybody else do what they do best and then tatum just fills the gaps. jaylen is a good wing defender on ball, tatum is too but he’s better than jb off ball so he’s in help coverage a lot. jaylen is a great individual shot creator, d white is pretty good too, tatum is a great shot creator but he’s a much better playmaker than those too so he’s looking to pass more to compensate. i guess this is how he’s bought in to the team, but there should be more of an effort to maximize him either from coaching or personnel.

Great take coming from a Celtics fan
@raiderr56323 ай бұрын
That’s a good analysis, a counter point to that tho. With how much team success they’ve had maybe the coaching staff has made it a point to the team that it’s worth sacrificing Tatum’s individual success for the betterment of the group? Maybe JT is happy just being the bedrock of the group and even though he is the uncontested best player he allows the others to be the best version of themselves while he is just the consistent baseline of the team’s performance kinda like a super star version of draymond
@Intr0vertical3 ай бұрын
I agree but also disagree. I think this team was built around JT's flaws which are by and large his inconsistency and tendency to go ghost for long stretches. He's such a plug and play player that it just SEEMS like they're not built around him cus his weaknesses aren't really anything other than a mentality thing

Imagine being in the middle of 2 of your closest friends going for the kill on each other. He probably wanted to stay out of it because he knew how ugly it was gonna get. If your in his position, you have probably tried to smooth it over but eventually you would probably back out and let your friends Duke it out as much as they want. I'm impressed with what the Mavs has done, several players that were underrated or seen as liabilities have found a position where they have grown, improved, and look very happy. Luka is looking like a piñata being hit every game in the playoffs, so the role players and Kai stepping up like they have seemed like something the team and staff have done a lot of work to do.

To be fair to the Mavericks, they have 2 first round picks that open up this summer. They’ll have an expiring THJ contract, Josh Green, OMAX, and some picks to potentially make additions to the team. I don’t think they are more than maybe 1 player away from being title contenders.
@benitocamela63363 ай бұрын
Always the "1 piece away" bullshit. We're contending right now and the only thing we need to win it all is Luka with both legs under him. He's playing with half a leg right now and still providing winning plays, but that can't cut it if you want to get a chip. If he's healthy then it's over.
