THE HARVEST BOOK - A Film About Making, Reading Through and Concept of an Artist's Book

THE HARVEST BOOK is a small manuscript containing two songs dedicated to the Sun and the harvest. They are written and decorated on specially made handmade paper and then bound in a flowering body of goatskin, cotton and silver.

OMG a whole hour but still transfixed and immersed in this fantastical "Alice in wonderland" rabbithole of just amazingly soothing music, pure magical craftmanship & down the imagining of the Bulgarian farmers' folk life alongside his beliefs based on his own fears as well as hope. I am not sure if i ever blinked during the whole video! The concept is utterly ingenious! Thanks

I don’t know what to say. I am stunned by this movie, book, paper, drawings, leatherwork, metalwork, box, and the words of the song, each part handcrafted with loving care in the traditional way. I so enjoyed hearing you explain the concept, and I believe you more then fulfilled your aim. As a historian I can also see this book in a world where such books were used as alternatives or in conjunction with traditional prayer books. But even as I write those words I am wrong. This is a traditional prayer book, but one based in a world of your imagination, yet based on the real folklore of the Bulgarian people. It also is an ode to life, as without the harvest life cannot continue. I found every aspect of your work amazingly beautiful, and meticulously detailed. Thank you for sharing your songs of the harvest with us.

Thank you very much, Diane for the thoughtful comment! I really appreciate that you took the time to share all this. We're really proud with this books as it marks a more mature step in our work. I really feel at home with this imaginitive folklore and incorporating books not exactly in the rightful place but without them creating a serious conflict at the same time. One of the reasons everything is so thoroughly documented is that when this books goes away into a new home, I'll have the opportunity to go through it's pages even from far away.

You’re incredibly talented and your work is so so beautiful! I can picture this as well as your other projects in a museum years from now displayed as one of the best examples of hand made book making and related trades. In the future if we go totally paperless your artwork will amaze people with the sense of nostalgia for lost trades. If that is the case I don’t think I’d like the world very much, not being able to touch feel smell and make old books is extremely sad to think about. Your skills are truly amazing and I’m so happy knowing there’s still people like you making things the old fashioned way and that we haven’t totally lost our ancestors skills that have been passed down onto us.
