You lads do deserve to hit that millie. The biggest problem is always that the ground is moving from under your feet and you've no idea what will work and if it will ever work again. It's nice just to see a channel like yours making content because you want to and having that be rewarding too.

I'm 36 years old, have been watching you guys since the early days. This is the best content you do; I'm sure you must realise that as you're getting older. I hope you pursue what you think it right - your audience ages alongside you, so you may have the leading edge saying they don't like political content or what-have-you, but that's what I'm interested in nowadays. Your thought experiments and learning of the world in parallel to mine are what keep us unified. If you can pull in a younger generation to attempt critical thinking via GTA videos then you have done a great service to the world, and I hope you're rewarded for it. I'm glad you're still struggling on with KZbin. HatChat and the Triforce podcast are about all that keeps me going these days with a 2 year old and another on the way in January. To think from those heady Minecraft days to now. I hope you can keep going for as long as you can, you've accomplished a great deal.

Occam's Razor isn't quite "The simplest solution is usually right". That is too simplistic, and leaves aside that there's a whole lot of very complex shit in the universe. What the principle actually states is: In cases where there are two or more competing hypotheses to an issue, the one which requires the least amount of assumptions (leaps of faith) is usually the correct one. So, in the case of Trump and deep fakes, the hypotheses are: That he really is as stupid as he seems (only requires one assumption: That he is that stupid); Or that a global conspiracy of millions of people and entities has set out to misrepresent him in that light, somehow managing to foil the entire might of US government in this quest, and spent billions of dollars to produce believable fakes of him doing and saying all this stupid shit (The assumptions here are bordering on infinite)? According to Occam's Razor, the first hypothesis is infinitely more likely than than the second.

I think the generalisation around korean idols isn't exactly accurate. At the very least, the larger bands are having more autonomy regarding the decisions they make, and usually the fans of those idols are actually ones supporting that autonomy. Otaku culture in Japan/JPop could be different though tbf.

In Denmark, the government has been pretty relaxed with the rules and regulations in regards to electric scooters. This means that in every major city, the streets are littered with unused scooters, seemingly thrown carelessly away, making a both environmental hazard and a danger for the traffic. Furthermore, new research seems to point towards the fact that a great portion of the users of the scooters used to be pedestrians or bikers before, so the scooters are actually replacing the greener travelers, instead of the car drivers.
@alsmiffy1
@alsmiffy1 5 жыл бұрын
Marcus Due I’m not necessarily for companies renting them out. I agree every city I’ve been to where they have companies who do this, the scooters are littered everywhere. I’m more for personal ownership so you actually care for the scooter and not just trash it and mess up a city.
@ActuallyJakob
@ActuallyJakob 5 жыл бұрын
@@alsmiffy1 In Brisbane, Australia, they've limited the amount of scooters allowed on the streets and forced competition between companies by introducing more than one company to the city. I agree that they are still a bit of a mess but the situation definitely seems to be improving. Personal ownership of scooters would solve many problems but personally I can't justify the up front cost of buying a scooter compared to just spending a few dollars at a time.
@Duendue
@Duendue 5 жыл бұрын
@@alsmiffy1 I think we both agree on the same points, my comment was mainly an attempt to illustrate some of the nuances in regards to the scooter-debate. Innovation happens much quicker than political change, and regulations are different from country to country. Rented Scooter-services are more prominent over here, so I’m more experienced with those than privately owned scooters. I agree that with personal ownership, more responsibility emerges. The problem lies in the complexity and uncertainty of the individual laws.

Regarding the German scooterers that got arrested, I just wanna say, a scooter is a lot, and I mean a LOT less likely to hurt or kill someone if they get into a crash, compared to a car. I don't think they deserved to have their licenses suspended. Like Smith said, bicycles are no safer than electric scooters.

I know this video is old, but I just had to say: at 17:24 Trott makes a statement that perfectly outlines why Smith's formulation of Occam's Razor, "the simplest answer is often the right one," is the wrong way to state the principle - Trott, "Donald Trump is a robot, that sounds quite simple." Trott is right, that would be the simplest answer. Occam's Razor is actually the principle that given to competing theories the ones which relies on the fewer assumptions is probably the correct one where in philosophy an assumption is anything assumed to be true within the argument but not proven to be true and includes hidden assumptions (that we are capable of creating and have created truly lifelike robots that can perfectly mimic human beings is a hidden assumption in Trott's statement because it must be true for the rest of his argument to hold, but his argument makes no mention of such robots being possible at this time) and explicit ones (Donald Trump is not human). Therefor, the most likely correct argument (theory) is the one which argues out all of the points it rests on demonstrating their truth as well which actually leads to a more complicated argument, not simple. So Occam's Razor actually doesn't mean the simplest argument at all, just the one with the fewer unproven assumptions. Anyway, just thought I'd point that out because I laughed my f-ing a-- off when I heard Trott's response here since this is a point so rarely made but mostly because Trump as a robot is... well, totally believable if we all remember that microsoft machine learning experience that had an app chatting with people till it was tricked into being completely racist.

These episodes could easily go to 2 hours each, and I'd watch that. Doesn't KZbin algorithm favor longer videos, and longer watch times anyway? I think you guys could pull it off. As for regulations and licensing for bicycles; Don't be ridiculous. Just requires a little bit of common sense. If someone doesn't posses that, it doesn't make sense to punish everyone else for their incompetence. If back in the day, I could bike home on mushrooms, perfectly safely, late into the night, no one has any excuse for not being able to get home safe. lol Got close to home as the sun was coming up, with a pink/purple/orange-y sky and vivid green trees everywhere. What a great bike ride that was. lol

Very late to the podcast here. Games do not make a person violent, but violence does. Dont have a reference handy, but a few studies have linked violent media to increased desensitization (becoming less responsive) to violence. That includes games, movies, news articles and of course witnessing real violence. Also the brain cannot distinguish real/fake violence. If it looks like it , it will be interpreted as such subconsciously. TLDR: consuming violent media makes you respond less to seeing violence, and may also lead to an increase in aggression both short and long term after being exposed to violent media. (Dont take my word for it. Google Scholar is your friend)

To be clear here. Japanese/South Korean Idols are "manufactured" to various extents. But so are some western pop stars. It wasn't explicitly stated but I got the impression that they though it was only a Japanse/Korean thing. Which either means they don't fully understand what an Idol is or they are very naive when it comes to western pop stars. Or maybe they do understand and it just didn't come across properly.

Pressure to succeed is a self defense mechanism that we and society as a whole self impose as a way to cope with the fear of our own death. Pressure to succeed is acknowledgement that we don't live forever, and therefore we must make the most of the time we have. It's a spectrum thing though obviously, some people want more and some less, but most importantly we need to be able to recognize and act accordingly as a society when the relevance of a small number of individuals' wants surpasses the needs of the masses.

Just as an aside, that Turkey/Kurd situation is complicated. There are a lot of us Americans who think we shouldn’t really be in the Middle East anymore, and they have a point. And yet, we also shouldn’t just abandon allies and people that have helped us fight to be slaughtered. Trump is doing this out of pure greed, and I’m sure Turkey somehow leveraged the Trump Towers there in Turkey against him in someway. It pisses me off to no end that things have gotten this bad, but at least Pelosi has finally gotten off her ass and is trying to move forward with impeachment proceedings. The majority of Americans do not want Trump, but some major changes have to happen to fix the broken system that allowed him to be elected, and those changes aren’t going to happen quickly nor quietly.

Impeach him for what? Being an unpleasant human being? Try again. Whether he is impeached or not, he'll be re-elected next year because the democrats' only policy is "orange man bad". No, the majority of Americans don't want him out, that's just what the bought and paid for media tells you. All the democratic nominees (in with a chance) have their own disastrous issues. Biden actually did the thing they are wanting to impeach Trump for. Warren is a serial liar. Sanders is toast. Clinton may run, and will lose again. Once again the lads commenting on politics they have no clue about besides amateur opinion and legacy media bias. If the lads want an objective understanding of us politics, unfiltered by biased legacy media, they ought to do a shit load more research than watching snippets from CNN. Watch TIM POOL or STYXHEXENHAMMER666. Else stick to the fucking gaming content that they actually know about and can be trusted on with their opinions. Political nonsense will lose you subscribers. STICK TO GAMES FFS.

apophisdd Aww did a snowflake get butthurt? Whether you want to believe it or not, it’s a fact that the majority of Americans do not support Trump. And if you’d read and watch other news sources beside alt-right apologists with no credibility or straight-up right-wing propaganda, you’d see there are plenty of causes for impeachment. And he won’t be able to be elected again because he’ll be in prison or would have fled the country. People like you are anti-American and the antithesis to American values. So keep trolling if you’d like, because you bring nothing intellectual to any discussion you’re involved in and aren’t worthy of any further interaction.
