It's amazing how Tarantino can make evil people seem so ... interesting. Like you would sit down at Starbucks and share a coffee and good conversation with them. Before they blow you away.

The guitar smashed is a one of a kind Martin from 1800's loaned from the Martin museum...there was supposed to be a cut to swap it with a dummy guitar before its smashed...but no-one yelled cut and a 2million dollar guitar is smashed and you can see the real reaction on Jennifer Jason leigh's face as she knows its the valuable guitar Martin no longer loans instruments for filming after this

Walton Goggins is one of those character actors who steal every scene they are in. I first saw him as the main bad guy in "Justified", the terrific series that starred Timothy Olyphant, after his great HBO series, "Deadwood", ended. As for the old man whom Jackson, as Marquess, taunts and then kills, that was Bruce Dern, and he is still alive as of Aug. 2024. In the 1960s he played many, many bad guys on TV shows and in movies, usually in Westerns. In one Western, his character shot John Wayne's character in the back and killed him, and to this day he still gets angry letters or nasty remarks from viewers who remember the movie. Dern won an Academy Award for his supporting role in "Coming Home", a beautiful movie with Jane Fonda and Jon Voigt, about survivors of the Vietnam war. He is disturbing as a blimp pilot in "Sunday, Bloody Sunday" and he fills the screen in the 1970s version of "The Great Gatsby", starring Robert Redford. Dern's first starring role is still one of the best in his career. He played the lead environmentalist in the 1972 Science Fiction classic, "Silent Running", directed by a young Douglas Trumbull. A few years earlier, Trumbull was in charge of the Special Effects in "2001: A Space Odyssey", inventing new ways of wowing audiences for Stanley Kubrick. He later also was in charge of SFX for "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" and other great movies. Dern's ex-wife is also a famous actress, but their daughter, Laura Dern, is known for her roles in "Jurassic Park" and in "Wild at Heart" and "Blue Velvet", both films by David Lynch, among many other of her highly respected performances. The Derns are one talented family. ---OronOfMontreal

If you do watch Death Proof, I highly suggest watching it as part of Grindhouse rather than the separate Director's Cut. It's a great movie, but it works much much better as the second half of Grindhouse

I like that the two people who weren't expected to be there are the two who made it to the end

Funnily enough, you mention The Thing and the spooky 80s synth music. That music is unused score from The Thing.

I took this movie as pure allegory for America's turbulent, virulent, cynical melting pot, where the only thing (barely) keeping us together and functioning are a few beautiful, horseshit myths and ideals (i.e. the Lincoln letter). It's like a cancerous inversion of patriotic Frank Capra movies.

The ONLY reason I watch these reactions is for the gay scene! I'm not even gay but that's my FAVORITE part of the movie along with the hanging!
