He should have just banished or divorced her. She was way too young die. It was so sad that she was used for her beauty by all the men in life. She would have been happier if she was born in this century. SIX wrote a song about her describing how she was groomed by the men to do what they wanted.

I went to visit Hampton Court on a school trip when I was in year 6 (I was 10 years old) and I fainted in the haunted gallery. I remember the staff thinking I had low blood sugar and giving me chocolate to help me feel better. I later realised they were only telling me that so not to scare me! I can still remember the repressive, heavy feeling I felt there. It makes me feel headachy just thinking about it. Very strange indeed.

My sister and I are from Indonesia and knew nothing about the hauntings in the gallery. We also did not know anything about the history of the gallery. The moment we stepped into the great hall my sister said to me, "I do not like it here. Let's go, " but I sensed nothing and said, "Oh just a little more," and coaxed her to go up the gallery. As we went up the gallery she became more and more uncomfortable and kept asking me to leave. Then when we reached the door to the chapel behind which the narrator says Henry was at prayers and at which Catherine was said to have been screaming and pleading, my sister became extremely upset and grabbed my arm pulling me out of that section of the palace very agitated telling me, "He was an evil, evil man! We must get out of here now! Right now." Afterwards we visited a friend for tea and she told us that gallery was known to be haunted.

I never ‘saw’ Catherine …. But as I came out of the upper Royal Chapel into the gallery I heard a frightening , long scream, and I went suddenly cold and got goosebumps down my arms. I thought the sound was from an audio that a lady was listening to close by. But when I asked staff, they told me there is no scream on the audio. I felt rather privileged to have heard her. 😌. How do you know the staff didn't lie about it not being on the audio? If it buys into people's interests and intrigue, it could easily have been on the audio and the staff informed to lie about any inquiries? You hear the scream, you ask the question and the 'knowledgeable staff ' get to impart that knowledge.

This is the story which brought my attention to Tudor history. I was about 7 and was an advanced reader, so I was allowed to choose books for older children. I saw a book called The Haunting of Hampton Court and decided to read it. The picture I forged in my head as a child of Catherine running down the corridor screaming after Henry has never left me. I went in Sept. of 2019 and I was standing in front of the picture of King Henry with Jane, Mary, Elizabeth, and Edward telling my cousins and aunt the story of Catherine Howard. Suddenly I got a chill and goosebumps on my arms and the hair on my neck stood up on end. I looked at them and asked if they felt it and they said no and sort of looked at me funny. I invited the Queens to show me a sign they were there. I asked them respectfully before I stepped into the castle. It was a bit of a scary feeling but it proved to me that they are still there.

I despise Henry VIII as much as the next person, but I do believe the execution of Howard was against his true will, and more political than anything. Would love to go there some day. My late father was doing a TDY to England and Germany for the US Airforce. He got to the Tower of London, Hampton Court, and Windsor Castle. Never thought to ask him if he saw any ghosts there. Now maybe he didn't pick up on anything. He would sometimes tell ghost stories the family brought over from Germany, and he when someone in the family would die, would hear in his dream a beautiful woman singing. His mother and her Aunt louise also would have death dreams in regards to relatives passing. So you would think he might have experienced something, but maybe he didn't get to the Haunted Gallery.

So, it's a terrifying thing to witness Katherine Howard's distressed spectral image screaming along the corridor seeking help from the King himself, is it? Not from my point of view, it isn't! The only really terrifying aspect of this was the appalling circumstances that led to her despicable early demise. It's not any astral entity 'replay' we need to fear, folks. It's the living ignorance of those behind such tragedies as this.

Reevaluating history, it seems clear that Henry VII suffered a skull fracture while jousting and exhibited all the symptoms of what would now be diagnosed as brain damage. The irony was...NOT ONE of the men accused along with Anne Boleyn-with the exception of Mark Smeaton the musician who, because he was of low rank, and could legally be tortured to extract a confession testified against Anne. The others, to a man, stood up for Anne's innocence and went to the block still defiant, declaring their and Anne's innocence. As for Catherine Howard, the 3 men accused with her: Dereham; Culpepper and Mannox blamed each other, blamed Catherine, blamed Jane Rochford, Anne Boleyn's brothers widow whose testimony threw Anne and her brother George both under the bus. They accused Catherine of seducing them...Catherine Howard inspired NONE of the loyalty and devotion her cousin Anne--who was totally innocent--had.

When the first distant scream happened, we both looked at each other as if, 'what the heck was that?' But no-one around us seemed to notice. Then we heard it again, a distant scream of a woman. Thing was, we didn't even know the history of that gallery, nor the haunted reputation, until AFTER we had left! Days later! And in the old BBC series from the early 1970s, 'The Six Wives of Henry VIII', my favorite episode was the one about Catherine Howard.

Even if Catherine Howard was guilty of the crimes that she was accused of, she probably shouldn't have given Henry the satisfaction. Henry was going to have her beheaded either way. Don't be silly, it was the 16th century! If you read about Katheryn, you'll see that she loved every second of it (until she was accused, of course). 'Every day she dressed with new clothes in the French fashion bedecked with precious jewels, decorated in gold around her sleeves'. She was THE QUEEN, the center of attention of the whole Europe! She was given a palace, the servants, loads of jewellery and presents that are madly extravagant & expensive today! Her whole family moved into court and "Henry indulged her every whim, thanks to her caprice". For a teen in mid 1500’s that was beyond the wildest dreams (she was actually between 16 and 21)! For a teen today, it still is (and for majority of adults in the world, tbh). Henry called her 'the jewel of womanhood', saying he'd never known 'the like to any woman', and ambassadors wrote about her vivacity & happy, joyful spirit. It's unfortunate how it all ended, for sure, but it fits in the zeitgeist of the early 1540’s...

It's hard to believe that CCTV surveillance cameras were not installed in strategic places in Hampton Court, including the haunted gallery. Actual CCTV footage of alleged ghosts will draw more worldwide interest. Beyond fascination with paranormal phenomena, may these restless souls find rest, peace and ultimately justice on Judgement Day.

There are fire doors, in larger buildings, that automatically open when an alarm anywhere is set off.
