It's an amazing result when you cascade 2 of these together. First, you pick the frequency that you want to boost, turn the mid knob all the way up, then find the exact frequency on the 2nd pedal, turn the mid knob all the way down to be greeted with a completely transparent version of your original signal. 😎
@LIGHTintheHALLS8 ай бұрын
I have been haunted by mids that are determined by others. With the Sweep knob, I very quickly find a frequency that makes my guitar amp very happy. My guitar comes into a resonant focus that makes a 112, 212, 412 etc. cabinet sound louder. It helps me dial in different rooms and amps quickly.
@geoffwhitemusic2 жыл бұрын
Gosh darn you, Josh. I got my Haunting Mids last week, and it's now the most useful pedal I own. The reason I say gosh darn you is, I think I need a second or maybe even a third so I can have one for each situation I want to use it for. I use a scoop (10:00 and 10:00) for metal distortion, a bump (2:00 and 2:00) for some bluesy, raunchy p-90 snarl. Oh, and it's a great clean boost that's customizable exactly the way I want. I only own one other pedal that makes me want another one. The OBNE Dark Star used to be my favorite pedal. Maybe it still is. But this one is right up there. Cheers!

My pedal just arrived… I must say I’m VERY happy with it. I thought it would just be an EQ pedal with less EQ features but that’s not my experience… It kept the tone and brightness and bass the same and just cleared up a touch of the muddiness from the heavier strings I put on AND helps sharpen the tone to cut through the mix and give more bite

This was the pedal I never knew I needed until I bought one and plugged it in for the first time! This one will always have a permanent home on my pedalboard!

Damn this is actually exactly what I need. I decided to start playing my strat more but my main amp, a Supro Coronado doesn’t have a mid control. I like to use more mids than highs with a strat, and this has exactly the controls you need and nothing more or less.

I fucking love Josh as a person and the way he carries himself as a brand. So down to earth when talking about specifics and tries to lay everything out in terms professionals and beginners can understand. Love the name of this pedal and it has a fantastic use. Realistically speaking, the mids is the biggest influence in your guitar tone aside the fingers, technique etc. It's just how you level your mids and which frequencies you prefer to cut. There's no better or worse, simply because no set of ears is the same!
@howardanderson30616 жыл бұрын
Hey Josh, once again thanks for another very informative and always entertaining presentation. This is a nice continuation of your blog about stacking preamps. As you just pointed out, both pre and post EQ (mid boost-mid scoop) are two wonderfully different animals that can help you do some radical tone sculpting. I could go on and on but I've spent 40 minutes already just for these few sentences. LOL, I don't know how you do all the things you do!

Brilliant idea. Mids are my main concern when tone shaping, most of the 'character' of guitar tone is in the Mids, at least to my ear. It is a control often left off pedals, and even my current amp only has Bass & Treble controls. I went online to search if anyone made a sweepable mid pedal, and here it is. Nice. Instead of fiddling with different pots, pickups and capacitors, this pedal could potentially make the tone change you want in your guitar without unnecessary upgrades.

Glad I read before commenting as I had the same idea. It would be a much more versatile wah (I think) than anything else available. Idea is that the expression pedal would take the sweep pot out of the circuit (replace it) or be in addition to it? I think it has to replace it.
@mattgilbert73476 жыл бұрын
That's kinda what Electro-Harmonix did with the Deluxe Big Muff. You got an exp-in that allows you to sweep the mids. I think you can also set Q via a toggle on that pedal. In fact...the JHS pedal resembles that section of the Deluxe Muff in a few ways..it's spooky...one could even say haunting...

It just will not do for me what it seems to do for everyone else, but then I will find a use for something obscure that like sold five units and three of them were returned. And I own two of them. I NEED this. lolol You should sell a line of autographed pedals with like limited numbers, or something exclusively on your website or something. I would but them. Autographed posters and such. There are nerds out there who would climb over themselves for these things. I know, I am one of them. Love your stuff, sir. Thanks!

Here's a midnight idea I had while watching. For a customizable 2-in1 pedal ala' SteakNEggs, StateLine, Milkman, Shotgun, SweetTea, etc. One could choose ANY 2 JHS single effects to be housed in a single 2fer box with an order toggle. Technically I do not know if this will work, so maybe just a few circuit options to choose from. We could have you create a Morning Glory with a Bomb Boost, or a Moonshine and Lil Foot Fuzz, or Haunting Mids and Muffletta! A SpringTank with a SpringTank! Add in color and finish options. I bet there would be demand and maybe spark interesting ideas. I can also assume I wouldn't be able to afford such a pedal but it would be awesome to dream up ideas.
