The realization that Luke is getting cold and stiff the whole day because Nell is dead and is going cold and stiff is so heartbreaking for me. It's a twin thing.
@ny69789 ай бұрын
That never occurred to me until I read another comment years ago! I was completely mindblown. Also Nell quitting her meds helped Luke to become sober, but she suffered from that. All of these connections only made sense on my second watch, it's amazing how many small things you could miss.

Everyone always hates Steve on the first watch because we pity the other siblings, but Steve is the oldest and he never SAW or HEARD anything in the house and since he was the oldest he remembers his mom the best. So to him, this really just looks like a suicide and he's angry and resentful. Also since he's the oldest, he's expected to be the one to hold it all together. He's fed up with their stories, I think. 💔

Steve is warning Luke about Joey not because he hates her or anything, but he knows Luke can't hang his recovery on another addict. Steve knows all too well what it's like to stick your neck out for an addict you love dearly and getting burned. Love simply isn't enough.
@skyofthelivingdead5 ай бұрын
Exactly. Steve was absolutely being a prick in his approach, but his caution wasn’t unwarranted. I’ve been in his spot before, you have to be firm. It’s why I never judged too much how Steve and Shirley spoke to Luke in the past, like at Nell’s wedding. It was harsh, but he was hurting them, too. Addiction never affects just one person, sadly.

@@marklouis1890 Yes. I think up until this point in the series Steve was a very hurt person who really tried his best, but when he saw that he couldn't help the people he loved, he started hurting them. The Twin Thing is a natural phenomenon where twins can sense what the other sibling is going through even at distances away. It mainly occurs with identical twins separated at birth, but fraternal twins can also experience them. Most of these may attributed to them being in the wombs together.

@RENwood45 ай бұрын
@@govind.m86 Theo bargains her grief away with pleasure and alcohol. Luke became slowly depressed over the years since their mother's death because he felt that her death took away all his hope. I love this episode, it really shows a former addict trying to make amends with their family members that they hurt from. Itsa very realistic to life, that even though a former addict is clean, they struggle with their consequences of their actions. And I know you guys dont like Steve but try to remember he's the oldest and remembers mom the most, him and Shelley also had to help Luke to recover from addiction when its been implied it's been numerous times he's had to help, you cant really blame for being tired here. I'm glad the correction was made regarding “the long game” being played. No one enters a detox & rehab facility just to cozy up to another addict to hopefully maybe get a few hundred bucks off of them. a lot of people react negatively to steve in the flashback, but I've heard a couple loved ones of addicts say that it's actually very relatable. Agree. Same with Luke, though and Steve knows that. Explanation is not an excuse, when someone is in recovery you don't make them feel like shit. If you can't handle being around them and being supportive because they have burned you before, that is completely acceptable. Then you need to have boundaries and go no contact until you can or if you can, don't keep in contact with them and invite them over to be angry or resentful at them, that just hurts you both and puts at risk their recovery and any future relationship between you.

I know you all love Theo, my guess is it will be Blake after this episode. Who knows though? Theo is my favorite, through and through.
