The realization that Luke is getting cold and stiff the whole day because Nell is dead and is going cold and stiff is so heartbreaking for me. It's a twin thing.

That never occurred to me until I read another comment years ago! I was completely mindblown. Also Nell quitting her meds helped Luke to become sober, but she suffered from that. All of these connections only made sense on my second watch, it's amazing how many small things you could miss.

Everyone always hates Steve on the first watch because we pity the other siblings, but Steve is the oldest and he never SAW or HEARD anything in the house and since he was the oldest he remembers his mom the best. So to him, this really just looks like a suicide and he's angry and resentful. Also since he's the oldest, he's expected to be the one to hold it all together. He's fed up with their stories, I think. 💔

Steve is warning Luke about Joey not because he hates her or anything, but he knows Luke can't hang his recovery on another addict. Steve knows all too well what it's like to stick your neck out for an addict you love dearly and getting burned. Love simply isn't enough.
@skyofthelivingdead

Exactly. Steve was absolutely being a prick in his approach, but his caution wasn’t unwarranted. I’ve been in his spot before, you have to be firm. It’s why I never judged too much how Steve and Shirley spoke to Luke in the past, like at Nell’s wedding. It was harsh, but he was hurting them, too. Addiction never affects just one person, sadly.

I know it's easy to assume that Steve is an asshole (and he really is sometimes) so everything he says could just be him being a "horrible person" and etc, but when he tells Luke that "just because someone is a good person doesn't mean they won't burn you", he's kinda right....

The Twin Thing is a natural phenomenon where twins can sense what the other sibling is going through even at distances away. It mainly occurs with identical twins separated at birth, but fraternal twins can also experience them. Most of these may attributed to them being in the wombs together.

@RENwood4

@@govind.m86 Theo bargains her grief away with pleasure and alcohol. Luke became slowly depressed over the years since their mother's death because he felt that her death took away all his hope. That's what he was talking about in his speech when he received his chip. Him saying how the red eyes in the dark crept closer with every car that moved on without stopping was symbolic of the depression eating its way at him more and more as the years went by.

I love this episode, it really shows a former addict trying to make amends with their family members that they hurt from. Itsa very realistic to life, that even though a former addict is clean, they struggle with their consequences of their actions. And I know you guys dont like Steve but try to remember he's the oldest and remembers mom the most, him and Shelley also had to help Luke to recover from addiction when its been implied it's been numerous times he's had to help, you cant really blame for being tired here. Helping a family member recover from addiction is one step forward two steps back until they can stand on their own two feet with no ones help.

I'm glad the correction was made regarding “the long game” being played. No one enters a detox & rehab facility just to cozy up to another addict to hopefully maybe get a few hundred bucks off of them. Addiction is often stigmatized to make people believe addicts have conniving intentions to harm others when the fact is, they're just prioritizing the addiction first. Over everything and everyone.

Love this episode. I've been close to addicts that were family and friends and the struggle of knowing how to deal with your own resentments is so relatable here. On one hand you know it is a disease but on the other you see them sober and it just crushes you when they fall of the wagon. Steve is far from my favorite character but he makes so much sense to me when he's trying to warn Luke about Joey. He doesn't want to see his brother's heart get broken the way his has.

a lot of people react negatively to steve in the flashback, but I've heard a couple loved ones of addicts say that it's actually very relatable. When you have an addict especially one that maybe even steals and lies to you, who you try to be there for only for them to relapse and do the same thing over and over, I think it's natural for even the most compassionate people to get somewhat fed up and cynical about the whole thing.

No spoiler: in ep 6 there's only 5 long shots in the entire episode! They have a behind the scenes that shows how they did it. One of them is 17 minutes long!!

This episode kills me. The whole show does but, for some reason this one hits me hardest. A brilliant show overall.

30:00 am i the only one that think that steven lashed out to Joey cause she bring the kid talk? There is some reactions of him that made sense but here he was throwing punches out of guilt

I always thought it was because Luke had found a friend like Joey before during detox and tried to save them. Like, it's a cycle of Luke trying to get clean and hanging out with girls he tries to rescue because they unconsciously remind him of Abigail.

I thinks Steve is very misjudged he has been through shit so there is a reason why he is the way he is!

Agree. Same with Luke, though and Steve knows that. Explanation is not an excuse, when someone is in recovery you don't make them feel like shit. If you can't handle being around them and being supportive because they have burned you before, that is completely acceptable. Then you need to have boundaries and go no contact until you can or if you can, don't keep in contact with them and invite them over to be angry or resentful at them, that just hurts you both and puts at risk their recovery and any future relationship between you.

I agree. Once you rewatch the show and pay attention to the nuances of his character, you realize that he is the most complex of the siblings and that he actually cares a lot about his role as an older brother and son.

I liked the 3 younger adult siblings the most but I will say I began to understand Steve a bit more in the second to last episode, he makes a lot more sense. Episode 2 is my least fav in the series, I'm just not good with animal death stuff so that was rough. The episodes only get better from here.

This show is amazing & I wish you'd watch more than once a week-Not only am I impatient &/or so excited but I do think there is some merit/upsides to watching continuously with H. Hill House-just sayin. 😂Yeah, I'm doin it again, sorry! (Word Vomiting) 🤭 So before I spoil shit &/or keep writing novels in your comment section 🤫 I'll just say can't wait for your next video! Ty guys ...ok 😊byyeeee 😂

As a huge comic book geek (X-Men & misc X-titles) Jean Gray has always been my favorite. I think Theo's "power" is more superhero power like. Plus she got a bad guy (Pedo Foster Dad)
