The "none of you could see me" line hurts so much cause it also reflected how they were fighting and screaming at each other instead of just being there and honoring Nel's funeral.

Only Hill House could flip the horror genre on its head so perfectly! If you watched that last shot out of context with no sound, it would seem like a horror shot that is supposed to scare you but nope! I'm over here crying because the living characters didn't see the ghost. Tl;dr this show is the best thing I've ever seen

it's not entirely clear at first, but this is Hughs episode, which is why the siblings keep changing for adults to children, why all the corridors seem to lead back to hill house, why it's mostly long shots. its supposed to show how unhinged he is from reality, and how much his mind is still trapped in what happened in hill house

The reactions (or lack there of) from a lot of the family members make a lot more sense if you view it through the lens of them legitimately believing they are mentally ill or fearing that they are, especially Steve. He becomes a waaaaay more empathetic character when you realize that all of his observations and core fears don't come from a "oh shit ghosts" reference point (like Theo, Nell, and Luke, who had legit visceral moments of supernatural contact), but from the sincere belief that his family has inherited mental illness and his absolute terror that it's happening to him and his siblings the way that it did to his mom. (There's a future ep that better shows that, so nbd that it's not picked up on yet). So, when he sees something (like the dead mom getting closer as he looks back at the casket) he believes his is losing his mind, and thus ignores it because it's all in his head. To some degree, so do the others, but with him it's way more pronounced.

I totally agree. I like Steve's character as much i like the others, because i can see where he is coming from. While we, as the spectators have an idea that this shit could be real, he don't, and in his place most of us would probably have and similar standing (given it happened in real life).

Marketa being the first person in history to say Shirley is the most likeable character.... Also I think the issue a lot of people find when watching the show is they go in expecting it to be just a regular horror series. A haunted house with jump scares and people dying and typical horror tropes. But instead it's actually an intense drama about a dysfunctional family trying to cope with grief the best they can...with some horror mixed in. While the horror is a huge asset to the overall plot, this is a character driven show. The family is the story. Their relationships with each other is the focus, the secrets they keep, their own inner demons. Along with everyone else I love this episode, it's actually my favorite in the series, because they're all finally together and its ugly. They have so much resentment towards each other and yet someone they all love just died and they don't know why and they don't know how to act or feel. So it just spills out and I think a lot of people that have experienced grief can relate. Love you guys discussions especially Chris noticing Theo without her gloves on, because that was something i missed the first time around.

I am very confused how reacting groups or individuals forget that that family is in dire straits. They bought the house! They wanted to flip it but they need to pour more money than expected meanwhile feeding 5 other mouths. The building is crazy damaged and more added each day and week. It is not easy to leave. This is the first haunting movie or TV show that I legit believe they can not leave the house without huge problems.

The buttons were a reference to her nickname. Olivia called Nellie "Button" because she liked collecting buttons. Speaking of Doctor Who references... did you notice the scene when Olivia went into the bedroom then came back out, the statues in the hallway had turned their heads so that they were looking in her direction? In a later seen they were turned back to their original position.

Also, fun fact: All the Crain siblings represent different stages of grief; Steve = Denial - He refuses to believe in the supernatural and doesn’t believe what he writes in his books. Shirley = Anger - After Nell’s suicide, she’s angry and resentful instead of being sad or understanding. She’s also angry about Steve profiting off their story in Hill House from his book. Her anger will be further explained in future episodes. Theo = Bargaining - She wears her gloves to block out the feelings she feels, unless she actually wants to feel, then she takes them off. Luke = Depression - Due to his experiences in Hill House, he becomes depressed as an adult and is addicted to heroin. And finally Nell = Acceptance - As seen in ep. 5, she is the bent neck lady that she saw as a child. Her acceptance will be further explained in future episodes.

I love this episode because it felt a lot like theater and that's how it was shot. When Theo fell on the ground it was a mistake by the actress but she stayed in character so there was no cut. The long shots were great and the child actors were amazing because they were so on point with everything. There were quite a few goofs that happened like Shirley stumbling over her words and young Hugh (the dad) stepped on a piece of the chandelier that young Theo eventually picked up and took away discreetly. It feels more realistic that way. About the "encounter" in the closet, that's kind of the thing about Netflix originals like this, they're meant to be binge watched like a long movie. Since I binge watched it I'm kind of like "ughhh just wait to see what happens" when you make predictions lmao. I still didn't get any romantic energy between Theo and the husband when I watched though, I knew it would be a misunderstanding. That ending speech by Nell about how they couldn't see her and then young Luke coming in to further break my heart hit hard. Depression feels exactly like that. I can't wait until the next episode because up until this point I really had no idea who the dad was as a person or character.

This show really is amazing. Take away the drama and it's a great horror. Take away the horror and it's a great drama. All the actors are wonderful, the dialogue is realistic and combining those with the sound design and shot composition we have episodes like these, where it's just non-stop tension where you genuinely care for the characters and just want them to be a family together. Throughout the episode it's painful to see all of the family's reactions to their dead sister but it's absolutely heartwrenching to see what THEY can't at the end. That ending really hits hard.

This episode was such a good one, the camera work and production were great, the acting was awesome. I mean the fact that this was about 4 long one-shots must have been taxing for the actors but I've got to give extra props to the children for keeping up with such a complex feat. They did so well. My favourite acting was the father (older version), Nell (younger version) and Luke (both versions). They really brought the emotion out of me. I felt so bad for Nellie and Luke took it so hard that his face was hard to watch with all of that grief. And the dad really struggled to in his own grief and his awkwardness in this reunion. He's such a sympathetic character imo.

I'm SURE I'm not the first to mention this, but there's a great bts video on YT about the making of this episode. I think - might be off a little - they shot this episode in 3 shots over 2 days. Everything was choreographed to the letter, and they even attached a Hill House set to the funeral parlor set for those transitions. What I doubt anyone else has said is that "Two Storms" should've been nominated for an Emmy because it may have been the single best produced, acted, directed, and written television episode of 2019. Def in my top 3 anyway.

For me the saddest line was, “My problem is the wrong parent died!” It’s overshadowed by the immediate toppling of Nell’s casket, but that line broke my heart. We understand why all of the kids are bitter towards their dad (he withheld information so they wouldn’t return to Hill House or fixate on the supernatural, and left them to Aunt Janet to raise because he was so traumatized and guilt ridden). But for Steve to scream that in Hugh’s face and never take it back? After idolizing his dad up until The Final Night? It’s so sad.

The first act doesn't have a single cut in it. This episode took the longest to make because they had to spend months practicing every move. And just for style points, they switched the actors out for their kids parts in a sweeping pan, which was the most difficult one to achieve. They did it by literally just running really fast while the camera was facing away, having practiced hard for weeks to not get flustered until the camera looked away again.

@NoseKey Yes! I can see from where people can find him irritating, but i actually really like his character. He is stubborn and close-minded, but he believes that his family member's are suffering from mental illness and the other encouraging or just pretending not to see their behaviour. He is in denial, sure, but you can see that when it comes to it he really love his siblings.

Pat was super drunk and spent the whole reaction either passed out or shitting on this episode for being “boring”. He also had his feet right up to the camera and kept smacking the mic, clipping the audio. They edited Pat out because he wasn’t contributing to the reaction, but was instead detracting from it.

Steve wasn't downplaying the mental illness. He said that it WAS mental illness and he thinks that his family (namely his father) failed to get help leading to Nell's death. And he wasn't talking about the father being mentally ill.Steve is a human who is realistically frustrated at himself and also the people around him. He's one of the few who is recognizing that they could have done more for Nell. He's just directing that anger more at the father at the moment, mostly because the dad has never given them answers due to the dad knowing how those answers would be perceived.

Highly recommend watching the official vid/mini doc they released showing how they did this ep its phenomenal, and yes there was alot of sprinting with, I want to say, just 1 hard cut in the entirety so it's just 2 extensive 1 shot takes; further contributing to the 2 storms theme, the 2 nights where everything changed
