Hiked the switch backs during a full moon- the glow of the moon bouncing off the canyon walls. Definitely memorable. As you get closer to the village, it's just beautiful.

If I go back during the summer months, we'll definitely aim for a predawn hike (and hope for a bright moon!)

Hi, would you know how cold it gets during night in June ?
@JaredDillinghamTravel7 ай бұрын
It's mild... in the 60s/70s at night. A lot of June/July campers choose to sleep in hammocks, rather than tents.

Awesome, short and sweet. Very informative. Is it possible to do it in a day ? Thanks
@JaredDillinghamTravel8 ай бұрын
Not really. The helicopter takes locals and construction crews first, along with deliveries. Tourists are last on the list, and it goes down for maintenance and storms ... so you can never really rely on it.
@srivenkat31428 ай бұрын
@@JaredDillinghamTravel so are you saying that even if I book a trip by chopper I may not get to the village on the day I booked ?
@shaynetaylor9477 ай бұрын
Everyone I know who took the helicopter did fly the day they planned to, but they waited many hours (you have to check in for a flight between 10 and 1 (you can’t reserve ahead of time), and then it’s “first come, first served” for tourists, but other categories will be placed ahead of you-1) charter, 2) tribal consultants, 3) tribal members, 4) tourists. And those passengers show up through the day, bumping you back. You may wait til 5pm for your flight. Also, the helicopter doesn’t fly every day. You can call (AirWest Helicopters) to get their schedule. Right now, March through October 2024 flight days are Sun, Mon, Thu, and Fri. And you’re only allowed to fly on days you have a reservation.

Nope, no animals allowed.

It's just an independent country within the US, with the right to extort money from tourists and the right to starve animals. No matter how beautiful the falls are, I would not want to sponsor that tribe. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Disturbing reports of the pack animal maltreatment even this year in 2023. When the animals collapse from injury, dehydration, heat exhaustion, malnutrition, etc. they are abused, the packs cut off of them, and then they are left to die. Again, reports of this as recent as 2023 and prior to that 2019, as it was closed during the pandemic and only just opened up this year Feb 2023.

Please do not use the horses and mules. They are in terrible and the only way we can get change is if we boycott them. Otherwise enjoy your hike and we fully support it

The switch backs are… an experience on the way back. 🫠 #ProTip bring someone in better shape than you to help carry your things out when things go South.
