I sailed aboard the Norwegian Encore in September 2021 to Alaska. Through Norwegian's Upgrade Advantage program, I was able to win an upgrade bid and stayed in The Haven for the first time. In this video, I explore all the perks that come with Haven bookings, including private spaces, priority embarkation and disembarkation, upgraded staterooms, butler, concierge, and more. From there, I discuss whether I think the Haven is worth the extra cost. I hope you enjoy the video! Please leave any comments or questions below and I'll do my best to respond!

I'm treating my sister to The Haven next October on the Breakaway. I wanted to do something for her where she is pampered and doesn't need to lift a finger for 7 days. I booked a two bedroom family villa so she can have the master to herself with the big soaker tub. I told her the only condition to this trip was she had to chillax in that tub at least once on our trip. Wasn't much of an argument... LOL

THE BREAKAWAY IS AN AWESOME SHIP & THE HAVEN IS A 5 STAR TREATMENT. MY WIFE & I DID OUR 1ST CRUISE 2 YRS AGO & WE DID THE DELUXE OWNERS SUITE & WE WILL NEVER SAIL ANYWHERE IF WE CAN'T GET IN THE HAVEN. SO WE JUST BOOKED A 2 B-ROOM DELUXE OWNERS SUITE WITH A LARGE BALCONY FOR 7 NIGHTS- 8 DAY ON THE ESCAPE. WE CAN'T WAIT!!!

Hey Tim. Thanks for taking the time to upload these videos. My girlfriend and I just got off of the same ship a week later than you. NCL Encore Seattle/Alaska. Our situation was almost identical to yours, but I came away with a very different opinion. My feeling is that The Haven is worth every single penny (don't tell NCL, but I'd probably pay more). One thing you and your viewers need to consider is that you are a solo cruiser. This is a very different situation from most people. THe more people in your travel group, the greater the benefits of the concierge and butler services. Also, even just being a couple, we find that the extra space, extra storage, 2nd bathroom (in the larger suites), and the larger balconies make ALL of the difference between a standard stateroom and the calm peaceful spaces in The Haven. The food in the Haven Restaurant is as good as anything you'll eat anywhere, let alone on a large ship at sea. The only bummer about it is that the menu is somewhat limited and does not change often. We were fortunate enough to have two cruises in The Haven withing a four week period and found that after 14 days the menu was a little stale. The plus side is, the staff at the Haven restauarant are amazing and will go above and beyond to shake things up a bit, including going off the menu (if given some notice ahead of time). NO chance I will ever NOT sail in The Haven. Especially once ships are back to full capacity (probably this summer). The priority embark/disembark alone is probably worth the price (assuming a full ship), especially if Covid testing protocols are still in place (very likely)

I'm glad you had a great time on your trip, Jim. You make some good points. Being a solo cruiser definitely does make a big difference (both financially and otherwise), so I'll be sure to take that into more consideration in future videos. I bet I could've made more use of the butler service and concierge, but I just didn't feel the need to I guess. All depends on what you like and your preferences.

I suppose we should thank you then, Jim. By colossally wasting your money, you are helping to keep the prices lower for all of the other cruisers who don't feel the need to separate themselves from everyone else needlessly.

Thank you for making and posting this vid, Tim. It was JUST what I needed! I've put in a couple of bids for upgrades to the Haven for a cruise next month (Bliss, Mexican Riviera). This vid pretty much confirmed a couple of things for me. First, the Courtyard Penthouse cabin isn't all THAT, compared to a nice non-Haven balcony cabin. Second, some of the perks really won't be of much value to me. My excursions, too, will be leaving later in the morning; I really don't need a bunch of snacks delivered to the cabin when I'm on a ship that's chock-full of free food; I really can't think of what I'd ask a butler to do (except maybe some clothes pressing?). But I learned of some things I'd appreciate: quick embarkation; great vantage point for sailaway; nice bathroom; good access to hot tub; table and chairs in cabin. I dunno. I'm ambivalent about hoping that either of my upgrade offers will be accepted. If not, I'll be fine in our currently-booked cabin. If yes, I'm sure I'll enjoy the Haven (especially the restaurant and the observation area) -- all the while thinking, "Damn, you probably could have gotten this with a lower bid!" I'ma think about reducing or cancelling at least one of my offers. Thanks again!

Just saw your video for the first time. I enjoyed your comments on the Haven suites. We've been on NCL for 8 cruises and always put a bid in for the Front Facing Haven suites. They are not in the Haven section and are slightly cheaper than the Haven section. We could never afford the normal pricing for Haven Last year we cruised and it was the first time we won the bid. It's actually a 2 room suite.... a standard living room area with a balcony and separate bedroom. The balcony is small but not a problem. As you said, once you go Haven, you don't want to go back....lol. This month, we are cruising again. With recent NCL specials, the price kept dropping for the Haven suite I would have bidded for. Turns out the final price, our original room plus upgrade, was lower than our original room, and the bid would have been. Good luck with your postings, Gene.

I stayed in the haven aft penthouse suite in January on the breakaway. The huge balcony, second bathroom, separate living room and king size bed were night and day compared to any other cruise I have been on. We had our butler serve us a Champagne breakfast on our large 4 seat table on the balcony. Expensive, but unforgettable.

Thank you for your detailed and intelligent review. I too enjoy the sea but also the solitude of my own space besides the cabin on a cruise. My husband and I are like you - low maintenance and hardly ever ask for assistance from crew. We were debating Haven and the only real reason I probably won’t is because we are cruising with other non-Haven and would feel somewhat isolated from them. I have a multi stress job and desire a safe and quiet space while on vacation. Id rather turn up and be sociable partying with family and friends at home than strangers on vacation. While sometimes fun, these days we must be guarded. I cannot afford a chartered yacht experience yet, this seems to be as close as we can get!

The Haven was worth it for us in January 2019. We did a 10 day out of NOLA to the southern Caribbean. There were 5 of us staying in a two bedroom family villa on the Breakaway. At $8500, it came to about $1700 per person, which was totally worth it! The ship was at capacity and the Haven wasn’t, which was nice. Margaritaville was still on the Breakaway at the time so we were able to eat there for a complementary lunch.

Yes, it definitely becomes a better value proposition the more people you have in the room. Obviously solo sailing in the Haven is probably not the best use of funds, but it was definitely nice giving it a try.

Hi Tim, great video..My wife and I stayed in the Haven on the Encore as well for the last Alaska trip 10/16/21. We love it. Yes it’s a big chunk of extra cash. We participated in the bidding for upgrade, a week or so before leaving they had a price reduction bring the price down to almost our bid,,so I called and just booked it. Is it worth it..? If your rich..The Haven is just everyday what you expect. If your not..It’s an awesome experience and for the time onboard you are rich. I certainly would not neglect my bills or drop my savings on it. But after getting the Haven bug..I try to budget it into our vacation. We are not gamblers or show folks..don’t even go to more uncharged restaurants..for us we just like to chill and relax onboard and the haven is that perfect place.

Great points, Jack. Certainly if money is no object, it's a no brainer, but most can't say that I guess. Like I said towards the end of the video, I feel like I "missed out" on a lot of the perks of the Haven on this sailing. Not that it was anyone's fault, it just happened that way due to all the circumstances. I'll be trying again on the Prima in September which I'm sure will be pretty full, so we'll see how it goes!

Hey Tony. I'm not Tim, but I did just sail in the Haven on the Encore last week. Something to be aware of with the Spa Suite is that it is NOT located in The Haven Complex (front of the ship). The Spa Suites are nearby the Spa in the aft. You still get all of the benefits of the services, but the restaurant, and private areas (observation lounge, bar, pool, and outdoor pool deck, and restaurant) are at the opposite end of the ship, which means a bit of a walk for your French Press breakfast. If you plan to utilize the Spa on the ship extensively, then it might be fine. Personally, I didn't really enjoy my time in the Spa (I had a men's Facial and a day pass to the Thermal Suite. Based on this one experience, I'd not likely use it again. The facial was just having some strange oil rubbed into my face, and the Thermal Suite was a but crowded most of the time I was in there. I much prefer to be in the actual Haven complex. Closer to all of the facilities, and the Concierge Desk, which is where you meet for priority disembarkation, and shore excursions etc...

We sail the JOY next week and are in the Haven fwd facing suite. So excited. Our last cruise (my first, not counting when I went with my parents as a teenager), and we were on Celebrity in a royal suite. Now THAT was something. A real dining table to seat six, a living room with fireplace, double balcony with hot tub, walk-in closet, soaking tub and shower separate in bathroom, and a nice sized bedroom with king bed. HIGHLY recommend that! Hoping this smaller suite on NCL makes the cut LOL. I told hubby he set me up for expectations of greatness!

I have sailed 6 times in various NCL Haven suites because we were 5 pp (and it is cost effective when divided by multiple adults and not much more verses booking 2 separate cabins) However, my last 2 sailings (and I recently did Sept 18th Alaska on the Encore) we were only 2 people in a standard balcony and I had an absolutely fabulous time. Going forward, I will probably only bid via the upsell when 2 pp and for longer sailings of 9 days or more. If it comes through ...great....if not, I will use that $ for more specialty dining, excursions or maybe even a spa treatment! I think the thing I really enjoyed most when sailing in the Haven (and missed) hands-down, is breakfast in the Haven. That was a very peaceful way to start your morning! But seriously....the choices in the buffet were endless....you just had to make a few trips to bring everything to your table because you can't carry your food, your coffee, your juice etc...all at the same time. They certainly make you feel special in the Haven with a fresh bouquet of flowers, daily canapes etc.....but sometimes you need to think logically. Also, on top of the expense of being in the Haven, you are expected to tip the Butler and Concierge and must factor that into your budget. Most Haven guests will also leave a tip for the Haven restaurant staff and their room steward on the last day. So it all adds up. In summary....the Haven restaurant, a LARGE bathroom and upscale bed were the real highlights (for me)......practically everything else on the ship is fully available to you (or a version of it) if you are staying in an inside cabin or a suite! Sometimes people want to "feel" more important, because they have some sort of exclusivity in a special club. lol.
@timatsea
@timatsea 2 жыл бұрын
I think this is a pretty great summary. I think I'd definitely look in the Haven on longer voyages with more sea days, more crowded voyages, or trips that potentially will have a lot of kids. Otherwise, I think my money might be best spent on the premium dining rooms, which are considerably better than the buffet and main dining rooms in my opinion.

Thank you for the kind words, Bobby! I can't remember my exact bid, but they have the little needle graphic that shows the likelihood of your bid succeeding. I remember I raised my bid just above the first level so it was barely touching the second level. I heard some people in the Facebook group for our cruise mention they won the bid with bids just above the minimum, so you might have a chance. I would think chances are higher with the ships sailing less than half capacity, but I imagine it varies from sailing to sailing. I feel like I might've been able to pay less and still win the bid. My husband and I stayed in the Haven along with our two sons who have their own suite. It was definitely nice but we didn’t realize other family members were unable to even come in to see our room let alone hang up there. After spending the week in the Haven I would only do it again if others we knew were staying there as well. We didn’t eat in the restaurant area once. Never used the pool area. But absolutely LOVED having the VIP treatment of the concierge service for shows and dinner reservations. But in my humble opinion, NCL a does such a great job prior to the cruise, most of our outings are planned and we don’t need to have special food prepared prior to getting to the restaurant. I just love cruising and yes it was a fabulous experience and everyone was amazing but a balcony spa suite is good for us as well.

I dont drink alcohol so didnt need help in that way with anyone getting drinks for me. Getting on and off at ports was super easy. No wait for that so I didnt need any priority. If I was sailing with a big family group, I might consider the Haven. But, right now with low passenger counts, being independent, not drinking alcohol, etc, I didn't really need to pay tons more money for the Haven. I enjoyed the Main Dining Room which had multiple options each night I enjoyed. I would not want a restaurant with the same menu each night. Too many other restaurant options to make the Haven restaurant any priority. I was usually full all day, so I didnt need anyone bringing me snacks. I already couldn't eat everything I wanted to eat, lol. Since passenger count was low, I didnt need help from a Conceirge making reservations. Disembarking was super easy and fast since not a lot of passengers. So, didnt need to pay Haven prices for that. So Tim, I can totally relate to your opinion. If the ship was full, if I was sailing with family or friends, or if there were tons of kids on the sailing, maybe I would consider the huge price markup. But right now, getting good service was easy all week. Also, in the comments, some people are saying this or that is free when staying in the Haven. I hope they realize that those things are NOT free at all. You paid for them with your hugely marked up Haven price. For people who have about the Haven, at those costs, I would expect even more "benefits" for that price. I would spend that kind of money on a higher tier cruise line versus being marked up on NCL. But, we all have opinions and value our money differently. Happy sailing everyone!

@timatsea

I believe that there isn't a huge difference between normal suites and the Haven. I think the smaller ships that don't have the Haven basically just don't have as many private spaces and don't have the private restaurant (though I think I read that you can have meals in Cagney's at no extra charge). You still get the Butler and Concierge I believe.

@@timatsea I've been in the 2-bedroom suite on the GEM, and we got all the same perks as the Haven EXCEPT we didn't have access to the courtyard with the pool, and there was no Haven restaurant. We had breakfast every morning in Moderno's and could have lunch everyday in Cagney's. So yes the Butler and Concierge were a perk for the suite guests. I've been in the Haven on the Escape (courtyard, restaurant and Haven areas) and Suite on Pride of America (no Haven areas, Moderno's was closed (May 2022) breakfast and lunch at Cagney's). Seems like the new ships don't have suites and the Haven (like the Gem), just the Haven.

We have done 4 NCL cruises since 2015 all on Breakaway class ships as .Haven guests Breakaway x2 - 1 x as Spa suite Encore -1 Joy -1 - The Breakaway and Encore were built for the Western Market and offered a few things Im use to. The Joy was built for the Asian market but didn't meet NCLs expectaions so it was renovated for the Western market and repositioned. All three NCL ships we cruised on were fabulous as usual. The Haven offers us the option of joining the crowds or retreating to from the crowds. I kind of like that option. Personal things I didn't like on the Joy, that the other two ships offered. Joy has no thermal spa Joy has no spa suite rooms. My shower mid ship Haven cabin had barely over a 6 ft headroom , im 6"2 and ot was tight. The other ships had bigger showers. We did the American Cafe complimentary first day lunch instead of the Haven Resturant lunch. The American Cafe was awful. Service very slow , food served cold. I actually left it on the table - my Consigniers found out and made up for it even though I did not complain. The Joy did utilize the crew elevators while in port with Consigniers escort for Haven guests- which is a major bonus, no waiting at mid ship elevator banks. On our first NCL Haven cruise on the Breakaway we also did not see the Butler until day 3. Until I asked the Consigniers where was he. The Butler came to our room and sincerly apologized saying he believed our Cabin was vacant. There was a screw up because at the last minute we were upgraded to a bigger Haven suite. Note - If you dont see or talk to the Butler and room Steward on day one go ask the Consigniers where are they. The Haven does offer a on ship cell phone that allows you to call your Butler anywhere onboard for service. The Butler arrives instanly. What We found a tad bit creepy is that our Butler would just show up without being called , and asked if we needed anything. Happened 3x in the Casino. Once at Cagneys. and once in the Cigar lounge. Kind of creepy being stalked on vaction. I think they track that phone. The Joy Garden Cafe buffet was the best of all the ships Ive been on. I like to mix it up for breakfast and the Garden Cafe was great. The Joy Haven pool area does not have a Sauna area or Steam room salt bath room . The other ships did. We will never get the Haven forward facing cabin. The cabin is beautiful and extreamly spacious, but the walk to the mid ship elevators is never ending, then toss in having to cut in and out of room service carts and other guests in the narrow hallways . Never again. The Haven is expensive no doubt, but we have cut out a few things in our lives to afford the best while on a NCL cruise. Is it worth it? Yes - everyone should try it once. We have an 11 day transatlantic booked on the Prima Haven next November. We are excited. Thank you for your video. I enjoyed it.

The Genie will find you on the ship and make sure you a have a drink or bring you snacks, towels etc. Daily in room cocktail service, all speciality dining included, beverage package, no gratutites, free internet and beverage package. Hi Tim. How much did you bid? I'm on an NCL Epic cruise in December and the starting bid for a Haven Aft-Facing Balcony was $600/person so I bid $800. I also bid on the 2 BR Family Villa. All 7 Aft-Facing Balcony staterooms are not booked and there are at least 13 2 BR Villas still not booked. Like you said, the ship is maybe 60% full so they keep telling me that I won't have a problem getting a reservation even though they are not allowing people to book dinner and shows before boarding. I'm a planner and I just like to plan a few things in advance. As you said, I probably don't need the Haven advantage to get the reservations on this trip. I'm bidding more because I think this is my chance to experience the Haven at about half price. Anyway, my main question is how much did you bid?

I'm sure I'll never have the opportunity to book a cabin in the Haven since I'm a solo traveler. Which Norwegian ships have the solo cabins (studios)? Have you ever booked a studio, if yes, how was it?
@timatsea
@timatsea 2 жыл бұрын
I've never stayed in a studio, but I did get to check one out on this cruise. I thought it was fine for what it was. It was well-laid out and made good use of space. It had a TV that could show live views of the outside of the ship. Studios also get their own lounge with snacks and cookies that is only available to studio guests. I've seen prices of the studios, and in my experience, they are usually a bit more expensive than a regular interior stateroom. I think they're a bit smaller than an interior too. I'd probably choose a standard interior if budget was my main concern, but I almost always go for at least a balcony when I cruise. I hope that helps a little.

Thanks for posting your perceptions of the experience. Two to three times the costs of a Club Balcony would NOT be worth it to us but we could see the value in a $500 or $600 per person premium on a 9 night sailing so we have put in for that potential upgrade but don't really expect to "win" it as these were only $50 more than the minimum. Normal price on this particular 9-night cruise would have been around DOUBLE our original ~$2K per person purchase price so we will see if a 25% markup might be of value to us. We have sailed in suites with butlers previously but hardly ever use their services as neither of us were raised in that type of environment so to be honest, we don't really KNOW how to properly use a butler...LOL

I went on my very first cruise ever on the Norwegian Bless in 2019 her first Alaskan voyage was in 2018 I think I’m not sure but she had already been up and going for about a year maybe not quite a year and we went to my sister and brother-in-law and I went to Alaska and we stayed in the Haven aft penthouse and that was absolutely beyond words! The only thing I was disappointment in is it seems like the Haven rooms that are not actually in the courtyard itself the decor and stuff I’ve personally felt like was not the same level even though you’re paying the same price when you look at KZbin and the two bedroom villas and even the courtyard the one the rooms that are in the courtyard the colors and everything are absolutely gorgeous and in our room the chairs were burnt orange the Decour was ugly I’m sorry it was just ugly I mean for it being a brand new ship you would think that like the color of the carpet and just I was really surprised I was expecting it to be like a real pretty blue I wasn’t expecting browns and burnt orange for sure! But as far as getting on and off the ship for the Haven it didn’t matter when you got off the ship you had the Haven area that you got on the ship and off the ship you were escorted and the food I had breakfast there at the Haven every morning and had lunch and had dinner and the food was phenomenal absolutely phenomenal. I had someone tell me that if I was going to pick one of the specialty restaurants that the steaks in the haven were 100 times better than Cagneys and so I had steak and eggs one morning for breakfast and you literally the steak was so tender and the flavor was unbelievable you didn’t even have to chew the steak it was and it wasn’t mealy it was just tender that’s how tender it was and moist. And I did go to the garden café a couple evenings just to kinda check out what they had but being on the back of the ship was absolutely gorgeous because you got to see everything both sides and just looking at the water being turned up at night with the light on the water beautiful absolutely beautiful I love nature and I’m going again October 15 we went in June and actually that whole week that we were there it was in the 80s and they said that they broke records every single day it has not been that hot I believe it for a never that was the first summer had ever reached that temperature. It didn’t rain we had a couple times where was a little bit of fog but that was when the clouds were low. But I didn’t last for very long and it was mainly later in the evening. The best part I liked about it too was going there in June it never really got dark I mean you can see the mountains and it was just unbelievable mean Alaska is definitely if you love nature and just the beauty of what God created Alaska is the place to go. And of course we are staying in the Haven again because I personally and the only reason that we’re staying in the Haven again this time is because the price is so good it’s still twice as much or three times as much but when I went in June 2019 I paid 7000 just for me just for me and this trip because of all the deals that they’ve had and because of all the times they’ve had to cancel the cruise because of all the stuff with Covid of course I got a Lotta coupons so basically for all three of us to go including airfare round-trip and our hotel in Seattle is less than $7000 and I paid that just for me in 2019. But I didn’t think I would ever go on another cruise and when I went on the first one we went with our pastor it was his 60th birthday and so it was a lot of people that wet they had reserved the whole 11th deck of the Norwegion bless just for our group that’s how many people went. And like I said I didn’t think that I would ever go on another cruise because we had like almost 2 years to save up for it and go. Because I always thought Cruise and awls I never heard was party party party I don’t drink alcohol I’m not a party person I love Jesus there’s really no shows on the ship that ice felt personally was appropriate just with some of the attire and you know everybody’s different and I don’t you know those that wanna watch that stuff that’s your choice. But I went just to enjoy God‘s creation and to see nature and to see where man has not gone in and destroyed everything with buildings and everything so this was absolutely magnificent and staying in the Haven I would never pay the amount of money that I paid the first time to stay in the Haven again but of course we went through a travel agency and they didn’t give us the perks that Norwegian cruise line gay people. Because with Norwegian the first two people like when you stayed in Haven the first two people paid a certain amount and then the others were free depend on how many people could stay in the cabin they only had to pay the port fees and the taxes and this travel agency charged $1500 for the third and fourth person and I will never go through travel agency again of course this was a group and travel agency‘s can do whatever they want they can charge whatever they want no matter what they pay for the room I’ve learned a lot since then! But I have learned I will never ever ever go through a travel agent again I will just go directly through Norwegian or whatever Cruise line I’m dealing with I’ll do it myself!

You are kind of right with the way you framed your cruise. If I was on the Encore, with under 2000 guests, I would simply purchase the full week of specialty restaurant meals and the Premium Plus Drink package (In your case, you do not drink so that one would be out). The key here is you also would not have had the win on the bid up process if the ship was near full capacity. You said it but I have to add. When the ship are at 80 to 100, the Haven becomes a game changer. It is what it is designed to be. At low guest count, it is questionable especially at retail prices. The same holds true for other Mainstream Cruise Brands. Where the Haven becomes great is when you cruise with two extra guests. The extra guest cruise free (Have to pay taxes and tips), they get all the Haven amenities and drink packages if they are 21 or older. This makes the situation much different especially for my family of 5. Just my two cents, thanks for the video.

You didn't mention how much you bid to win the upgrade!?
@timatsea

I believe it was about $800 (so $1600 double occupancy), but that sailing only had 1000 passengers or so. I would imagine it's much higher now.

Definitely! My wife and I won a bid for Bliss the first of January 2022. One night we tried to eat light and got soup & salad, with a lobster tail. I couldn't decide between crab cakes and surf & turf for last night, so got crab cakes with lobster tails. I had been teasing the staff about saving a big one for me for the last night. When we were about done eating, one of the servers came by and said, "Just one? We saved three for you."

I believe it was around $700 or $800 per person if I recall correctly. Not cheap by any means, but way cheaper than it would've been to book it directly.

Thanks for the review. I'm greatly looking forward to the experience in the Haven soon. It's a bummer that you didn't go to dinner in the Haven restaurant because, by most accounts, it's excellent. It's also a bummer that the main shows were "dark" for your sailing. The shows are a big part of why I cruise, so I'm hoping that won't be the case for me. I'm guessing since they had

Yes, I definitely should've gone to the Haven restaurant for dinner, but I met some new friends on the cruise and we ate at specialty restaurants most nights. None of them were in the Haven, so I chose to eat with them rather than alone. Next time I'll try it for sure. It was a drag about the shows, but I certainly understood. Still had a great time though!

@@rosedestima9729 as far as I read, non-haven guests are not allowed in the Haven areas I suppose it would get too crowded in the pool areas and other areas. even if they’re guest of Haven guests

Sorry, Joseph. I'm not a drinker so it wasn't top-of-mind. I'll try to be more thorough next time. Honestly though, it was just a pretty standard bar top with about six stools that was always packed with the same people.

I think it is all relative. For some people it isn't a lot of money. For most it is. A few grand is chump change to some. It isn't going to cause them any financial stress in the long haul or any kind of hardship to save for it then why not. For myself I could only dream about the Haven from the confines of my inside studio cabin. lol

Reading the comments... It's a typical (huge) cruisers' mistake to operate with the brand/marketing names "I cruise with NCL", "I will try the Haven" while forgetting the first and the most important thing: the ship!! Cruise line is nothing, cruise ship is everything. For example, The Haven experience on the Bliss is far above the Breakaway. On the contrary, the "economy class" experience on the Breakaway is far above the Encore. However whatever NCL ship is, the Haven is insanely overpriced.

You did not take advantage of the Haven enough. Why were you eating in the main dining room when you could have been eating in the restaurant in the Haven?

Because I met friends who were not in the Haven and chose to eat with them most nights over eating alone in the Haven. I agree with you though, I didn't take advantage of it.
