The best of the Hawker Tempest marks, it was refined into the Hawker Fury, which was cancelled in favor of jets, but the naval Sea Fury was continued and served into the 1950s.

Since seeing a Tempest at Cosford few years ago I’ve closely followed the rebuilds at Sywell and at KF in Canada. Such an impressive looking aircraft - best of luck with the rebuild. Have subscribed and look forward to the progress!

Typhoon Legacy in canada is doing a complete rebuild of one of these.

Ian is building a Typhoon (and doing a beautiful job!), the aircraft are similar in some ways (a lot of the tubular cockpit structure, oil tank and centre monocoque are identical) but the Tempest is a much improved, higher performance version.

Cool. There are two Typhoon projects, Canada and UK. The mk2 Tempest resto is done just flew from Sywell to Duxford. KSI are also doing a mk2 in Canada but wont have a centaurus. Kermit Weeks has the mk2 prototype and a Typhoon mkv project but these seem to have stalled since Andy Salter retired

There is, the museum is really worth a visit if you are ever in the areas. Not many places where you can sit in the cockpit of a British Phantom.

Excellent video for the general public. May I suggest a much slower video of the forward part of the fuselage (steel tube section) for the detail oriented affectationatos (re: nerds). Best of luck on the rebuild.

I do not think that further narration is needed. Although bringing to note the squaring of the round tubes at joints which the majority would miss. The type of fasteners at various joints (no real need to narr.) The conglomeration of pulley's in, around, and under the control column. While I love such detail, I would imagine that model builders would revel in this level of detail as well. Thus: this video is a good all around view of where and what you have, the detailing would be icing on the cake. Cheers.

The wings are slightly longer on the MK.V so not quite as simple as changing things firewall forwards. Not to mention the problems of finding a Sabre engine. We have the prospects of the MK.V owned by Kermit Weeks flying in the future along with the possibility of two Typhoons.

@@TheTempestTrustThe wings are the definitely the same size (both extant Mk Vs use converted Mk II wings) but internally the Mk II and Mk VI had a strengthened rear spar to allow the use of spring-tab ailerons, notwithstanding the oil cooler and carburettor ducting in the leading edge as well. The Mk II and VI were much the same firewall-back; theoretically you could replumb and re-engineer a II into a VI if a Sabre were to be found - but that wouldn't be very authentic!

@@blockheadgreen_ quite right, apologies. Significant internal differences with the oil coolers being moved to the leading edge. The overall length of the MK.II is increased in comparison to the MK.V, not the wingspan.

We are indeed carrying out an airworthy restoration. No final decisions have been made regarding the colour scheme and we are a long way and a lot of hard work away from it becoming a pressing issue!

The MK.II first flew in 1943 but issues with the development of the Centaurus delayed large scale production until 1945. Our example saw combat service in India post war.
