I used to sleep on the back dock of a building, when I was homeless, in the night, looking up at the moon shining on my face, wishing that my family would come looking for me. No one ever did come to look for me. But I survived that life. And I'm SO IMMENSELY GRATEFUL. I LIVED TO SEE ANOTHER DAY AND TELL ABOUT IT, TO HELP ANOTHER. I am so grateful for the Lord's merciful grace! I lost everything in 2016 family who I always supported turned their backs on us. What I've always appreciated about the Hawkins Family is the level of sophistication they brought to Gospel Music. They were able to cross over to mainstream without watering down the message, necessarily, and showing the 'secular' world -- if you will -- that Gospel music could, in fact, be sophisticated yet heartfelt and meaningful.

I've been around the HAWKINS Family since High School. My mother was a Gospel Singer and the Hawkins used 2 come 2 our church at least once a year. Tremaine Hawkins and her son Jamie were our Vocal Coaches 4 MC Hammer 'To Legit Tour'. I was a Background Singer/Choreographer. Walter Hawkins well was my daughter April Weeden-Washingon's Pastor. Homeless and without family that love you, the way only God can love someone, is a very very hard place to rise up from. It was never really a choice as a child to be in harms way, but it became a choice later, as an adult; (to recognize being saved from so many hardships was the will of God), His love and compassion just for me touching the places that need healing in ways only I can see. I've prayed so very many times to be where I am today, and now that I've gotten here the struggle is to stay grateful. There are days when praising the Lord is intentional, breaking out of feelings that so easily swirl around me. No one can know just what God has done for us, until we are compassionate enough to share them, in empathy for if it were not for the Lord my life would be lost. Hold on through the storms, because they will come, remember the joy because it is there. He does not leave us nor forsake us, chose wisely to trust in God no matter where He may lead you, or what He may suggest is best for us. He is faithful, for that I will be grateful.
