The healing power of gardening

Dr. Nate Charach is a Toronto-based psychiatrist who is particularly well qualified to speak to the mental health benefits of gardening. We visited with him and toured his healing garden - the permaculture food forest he’s growing in his backyard.
While we strolled the garden, Nate spoke to us about the work he’s done to heal the land in his backyard - planting with care to fix nitrogen to the soil, and growing plants to feed both his family as well as the pollinators and wild creatures who visit the garden.
Nate also spoke eloquently with us about how connecting to the earth can help us all find balance, and how research from the last several years shows very clearly the significant benefits to mental health of time spent in nature.
