Message from Celeborn to Legolas and Thranduril Summer 3004 Third Age. “Lords of Mirkwood, I offer my congratulations on the cleansing of Enethaur. You have done our people honor. As you march forward in the reclamation of our Wood, I myself have mustered a force and will soon join you both. The tide against Sauron has turned, and while we all mourn the loss of Haldir, his death was perhaps the best thing to happen for our realm. None feel his absence more keenly than I, for thousands of years he walked by my side and fought with us, but at the end we were stretched thin, almost to the breaking point. Fearlessly, he pressed onwards without proper support, for there was none to send. His conquests were met with disdain from our people and fewer recruits joined our ranks. His death has spawned a renewed focus on the war effort against Dol Goldur. Many hundreds have joined me as they also march in your ranks. While these recruits are largely untested, they are eager and will have chances to prove their mettle and stain their blades with the blood orcs and goblins. Already in skirmishes west of Amon Lanc more than 1000 elves crushed a goblin raiding party. Now is the time to advance. Press onward with steadfastness, having a perfect brightness of hope and love of the Valar and all living things. If you will do this, the time draws ever nearer when the evil taint will be washed from these lands and with our purpose fulfilled we will sail as brothers into the West. Courage is the rallying cry.”

Just a tip that works for me, you dont have to keep every castle/town.. I sell mountain region towns and castles to Khazad Dum for example, and i get 20k+ each. Also it makes friendly AI engage enemies.

A couple of notes on tactics: 1.) "I guess the archers have to fight." This is almost always a mistake, unless they have already used up their ammo or you have to do a hail mary rear-charge in hopes to crack the morale of the enemy before your infantry line collapses. 2.) Lone enemy siege tower vs. ballista towers almost always results in the tower collapsing. You should have had the special general and the archer unit switched, and that would have broken the ladder orcs almost instantly. 3.) For to love of Eru, don't blob attack the enemy head on! Your infantry is quick and relatively robust (enemy troops are starting to catch up, though), so pin the enemy in place with a relatively thin line of spears and then outflank with the rest! The casualties with Celeborn's army could have been much less. 4.) You can cheese the enemy missile units a bit by putting Celeborn in front in loose formation and just let them waste their shots on him, while the rest of your army hangs back a bit. 5.) Also, target those enemy wargs! They are Priority One. Shooting enemy missile troops doesn't do to much unless you can really drown them in arrows; it is generally better to melt away enemy high Attack, low Armor infantry like the Maulers and the Slayers, who will do a lot of damage in melee, and then quickly crack them with your infantry, who can then charge on to the enemy archers.

Apollo in order to get better troops you need to build the hall of culture line - whichever building it is that gives free upkeep - that unlocks the higher tier of barracks and archery range which can outfit the elite elves! We need to see the beautiful armor shine as they cleanse the woods of the evil which resides there

Admittedly I am not sure what the method is in this particular version of DaC, but I thought it was the blacksmith line that unlocks the higher tier barracks?

@ I think it used to be but for v5 at least it’s the hall of culture route I can guarantee

it's the town level (village, town, large town, city ) that determines what lvl barracks, stables, archery range, and artillery ranges you can build, which in turn unlocks the higher tier troops. With castles the same except they start at the town equivalent so will typically start able to train the mid tier. In essence it all depends on population because you need certain pop milestones to upgrade the town/castle lvl

@ I promise you it’s directly coorelared to the hall of culture line haha I play the game most every day - I think it used to be different but v5 DAC is about the hall of culture - not to be confused w the artist studio that gives culture - it’s the ones that gives free upkeep to units

Hey apolllo just wanna say i´ve really been enjoying this playthrough its a shame that they dont maintain views as it goes for playthroughs in general ): a few things that i´d like to mention. first the crucial part that farms play for the economy. if you hover over the financial button you´ll see how much food production gives you and that amount increases with every farm you build, just like with mining and trade. another thing is the amount of money you could save in the long run by building buildings that increase free upkeep. you would be able to amass huge forces without paying their upkeep (when they´re staying in a settlement that is). and lastly i noticed that if you hover over troop types in the recruitment pool. you will see how many turns will have to go by till you can recruit the next unit. thats usually not a culture or population thing but rather a system related to the max amount of units you can recruit within a settlement. this can increase with the construction of military buildings.
