awesome setup, Wes! a lot of that is over my head at this point but you've got me curious about how to improve my heating, cooling and power. I do have plans to put another box in for a transfer switch at some point but extended power outages here are rare. thanks for sharing!

I like the setup, this is pretty close to how I want to do my build. I like ability to turn off water or power to a specific room. Looks great!

awesome job. i love how neat and organized it is. my house is 124yrs old and has wiring at various stages and is all ratted up and just ridiculous. i want to rewire the whole house soon. so far the only place i have even sort of rewired is my garage and it is super nice and organized since i put in a sub panel and did it myself. but the rest is a mess. and some a hazard to be honest. this stuff is goals. thanks for sharing!

Nice set up, thanks for sharing. I hope that lagging both the hot and cold water lines is high on your priority list. Cold water first, you need to stop the water in the cold pipes from gong above 25°C for legionella prevention.

nice setup! what is the reasoning for 2 tankless water heaters? also, what are the dimensions of that room? my wife and i are laying ours out on paper now.

What is the expansion tank connected to?
@shaweehillsworkshop42264 жыл бұрын
It is between the supply and the water heaters

@@shaweehillsworkshop4226 So its on the cold line? I have a Tank water heater, and need to install a expansion balloon as well, would I place it on my hot coming out of the tank or can I intercept it on the cold line like you did? I just bought a new house and am trying to make a OCD mechanical room in the basement, upgrading things, but I am also young and unexperienced. Thanks for the help!

@@Nihillistism it definitely needs to go on the cold side

Did you make your plumbing manifolds or did you purchase them? I've seen the plastic ones but they look like they would break easily.
@shaweehillsworkshop42267 жыл бұрын
TheRealDrJSquared I made it from copper

Nice setup, very clean! One thing: please go to a HVAC insulation contractor and get some actual fiberglass duct-wrap and throw that foil bubble wrap shit in the garbage where it belongs.
@shaweehillsworkshop42267 жыл бұрын
its not needed. All of my duct work is in conditioned space, I used the foil wrap more for noise. I have mechanical chases that are approximately 10" wide that are heated and cooled that my ducts run it.
@johnm987 жыл бұрын
I'd have a hard time believing it could help with noise, too. If it's noise from the AHU that you're trying to suppress, the insulation must be inside the duct (duct liner).
@shaweehillsworkshop42267 жыл бұрын
I believe you are misunderstanding. this isn't for noise coming out of the registers. We combated that by putting 5' of flex at the end of each metal run to the registers. This is for noise coming from the duct into the mechanical room, etc. you wouldn't believe how much it quietened it down in there. There is also the added benefit of the small R value in case there is stratification in my chases so i don't have to worry about condensation. If you don't mind me asking, why don't you like the foil bubble wrap?
@johnm987 жыл бұрын
I was indeed mistaken. I didn't expect there to be a need to quiet down a mechanical room, but that's great if it worked! I don't like it because of manufacturer exaggerated R-value claims, deceptive marketing, and the simple fact that you can buy much higher R-value insulations for about the same price.
@shaweehillsworkshop42267 жыл бұрын
we only want the mechanical room and all the duct for that matter to be quiet because the wall between our living room and the mechanical room is not insulated. This is the same for our walls that are up against the chases. So any noise in them will resonate to the adjacent room. As for the reasons you don't like the insulation, I agree with all of them.

Horrible audio but neat setup.
@shaweehillsworkshop42267 жыл бұрын
Yeah, i had 2 audio clips, one from my microphone and the other from my camera and they were both horrible. I am not sure if it is the acoustics of the room or what. I should have worn a lapel mic, maybe that would have done better.
