The GOAT. Don't @ me. Don't tell me about Barry Sanders or Emmitt or Marshall or whoever else. It's Walter. He LITERALLY WAS THE CHICAGO BEARS OFFENSE. They had Bob Avellini, Vince Evans, Mike Phipps, and any other scrub you could think of pre-Jim McMahon. I mean JIM MCMAHON was the best QB he ever played with and it's not even close. Best blocking back of all time. Top 3 pass catching running back with Marshall Faulk and Marcus Allen. Was probably their best QB until 1982! And produced with the entire offense having to key exclusively on him because they had no one else. Plus, he was a 1000 yard running well in to his 30's...consistent, excellent, durable, and versatile. No question he's the best to ever do it.

There are two things about Walters running that make him stand out to me, and that I love so much. 1. When he lowers his head, overpowers the defender with his helmet nearly touching the ground, and then springs back up like a mousetrap and keeps chugging for more yards 2. When he slips, because it is always with so much force you wonder how he is ever able to right himself. So effortless

Most complete running back of all time. I don’t care what ANYONE says, Walter Payton is one of, if not, the best running back in NFL history. He could play probably every position. He beat Jim Brown’s record. JIM. BROWN. This guy was a legend. He will never be forgotten by any fan or player in NFL history. God bless Payton.

Walter Payton broke the rushing record, Barry Sanders would have broken the record if he didn't retire, and Emmitt Smith broke Payton's record. It's interesting that none of them were big RBs.
@Maythews8 жыл бұрын
bigger backs typically retire sooner due to all of the punishment they take. plus true legends are usually do it all players. look at what happened to earl campbell for example

Yo Yo I'm not old enough to have seen Jim Brown play, but I do remember clearly the days of Walter Payton and Barry Sanders and that kid from Dallas. I don't remember his name. Barry Sanders was true sweetness, to take nothing away from #34.
@AllPro7778 жыл бұрын
Barry Sanders was a better runner than all of them, Walter was the best football player, Emmitt Smith was a grinder.
@hironimus19717 жыл бұрын
Emmitt was a product of his offense. Not that he was not a bad RB but his record was without a doubt due to that offense. You look at the receiving corps, his FB, the TE they had, that brutal O line and Aikman. Talent wise, a person could argue one of the most all around talented offensive starting lineups ever. They created so many mismatches and there were so many threats / weapons that you could damn near take a lesser RB, plug them in and still get good productivity from that position. Maybe not a record.. let's not go that far. But imagine the gawdy numbers Payton or Sanders would have put up if either of those two played in that offense The best Sanders ever had in his offense was Brett Perriman and Herman Moore for a couple of seasons. Payton.. lol, people say Gault, horrible hands, good speed. But his best two receivers were Dennis Gentry and Dennis mcKinnon.
@отпирайте6 жыл бұрын

My cousin was lucky enough to work in the Bears front office during their glory years. He has told a story many times of once walking down a hallway at their facility when someone snuck up behind and proceeded to lock him into a bear hug from which he could not escape or even move and then hearing a loud laugh that belonged to Walter Payton. My cousin is about 6'2, 260 lbs and a fairly strong guy. Said he never felt so helpless in his life for those few seconds. Said there was not a nicer or more approachable person in that building.

Walter Payton along with Jerry Rice were my favorite pro football players of all time. When I was a kid I used to get into arguments with my friends over who was the better running back between Walter, Earl Campbell, and O.J. Simpson. My argument for Walter was that he could catch, block, return kicks, and throw the ball! As great as OJ and Earl were, they couldn't catch a cold. Plus Walter did not have one offensive teammate in his career that is in the Hall of Fame! He may be the only player in the hall that can make that statement!
