Although K-Pop is much more rigorous than most, you're describing a typical career in the Arts. They are "eliminated without consideration for their emotional effect" (7:54) is what's practiced everywhere in the business world. True, most people aren't microscopically analyzed and probably rejected in front of a viewing audience, and I don't think minors should participate (my ult, Taemin, debuted with SHINee at age 14. He was under contract at age 11-12), but this is the nature of Entertainment. If you want to survive in the biz, you have to work your azz off and develop a very thick skin.
