The documentary felt less about Katseye and more about the process and the dream academy, so they can do this again. I really don't see Katseye flopping. I've heard "Debut" play on the radio and they have a really large Filipino fanbase. While most Eyekons right now are kpop fans, they're gaining new fans each and everyday. They're also promoting right now throughout Asia, although just Korea and the Phillipines so far. I hope they don't wait too long to release something new though because I feel like soon they're gonna need it to continue building momentum. I think their longevity is really going to be impacted by the amount of momentum they're able to build over the next year. I think if they're able to keep this up they really do have the chance to be really big although I 100% understand the difficulty in imagining it.

I think for the benefit of the group the Netflix documentary could have had another episode that focus on the six final girls or even another season to continue girls journey to record their first EP and end with their first single so everyone who watched it could hear at least one of their final song. P.S. They easily could have created second "younger and more pop/fun/silly" group with Emily, Ezrela, Samara. Add Lexie to this and it's perfect. (From “Wannabe” group I am unsure a little bit about Ua but I believe she was only 15 there so she had so much room to mature and grow). Emily in wannabe was giving so much Emma Bunton vibes in her own "Emily way". And yes, I agree with you on Ezrela and how she was so underrated!

imo if the hype for the documentary and the group don’t fall off pretty quickly (fingers crossed it doesn’t) i could easily see them doing a follow up documentary like “one year after debut”. a huge part of the allure of the group and why so many people are getting invested after the documentary is because of their authentic personalities and people would eat up just watching the girls candidly.

@@Mitchis_Euphoria Yes, but it’s up to management to lay down the rules where someone isn’t used to their level of training. I too got addicted to katseye after the netflix documentrary. however, I don't see this temporary obessesion going further simply because of the lyrics to their songs. Other than 'touch', their songs scream to me that they were written by some old guy trying to appeal to teens. I am surprised you like the dream academy 'girls like boys' song because to me the opening lyrics: 'whole lot of savage' really repelled me lol. Like what 20 year old in 2024 says savage anymore? Also 'debut' sounds good to me but again the lyrics are distractingly questionable for me. ('no we aint flexing we do what we do' ... well what do they do? we don't know them) They just feel extremly manufactured and not personal, which i think is an important element that is needed to appeal to western audiences. Even if the songs are manufactured or shallow in message, I think it is important for the songs to still feel like they are coming from the girls themselves (like with fifth harmony) I hope they allow the girls more creative input because they seem really talented creatively as well (especially Lara) and i hope the producers behind the seen are able to marry the kpop sound with western demands a bit better for their next projects.

Imagine my surprise when, by the last episode, I was still missing seeing stuff about Yoonchae, Manon, Ezrela, Angelina (who never gets even mentioned in the documentaty aside of the leaderboard), Celeste (she made it to the semifinals and they showed us nothing about her except her entrance to the academy), UA (I was against her being there because she’s so young but at the same time, she was supposed to be an ace at heels dance so idk why they never showed or mentioned it), Nayoung… yeah. I wish they had shown more girls and that we got to meet them better and more.

I was excited to see what became of them after the programe, even if it's for hate ppl would still want to see what happened.

As someone who followed the whole Dream Academy show and situation from the beginning and voted/consumed content while it was happening, I can say personally that it was very easy to be blind about the girls' personality, potential and relationships when all you have is performances and visuals. Watching the documentary, I felt so guilty for the way I had viewed girls like Emily and Adela as simply not good enough, when they are so much more than that. And I think that was deliberate, but I also think it sucked. We got a very one-dimensional representation of the girls compared to all the context the docu gives, and so I simply voted for who I thought was the best at singing, dancing and being charming without any knowledge of dynamics, friendships, personality, tensions etc. It was pretty brutal and superficial on the whole, and despite not knowing the girls well I still got emotional every time one got eliminated, and I was very upset by the ending of the live show. It all felt so cruel, and I can understand why Lexie left. And like maybe, *maybe* it would have been okay if they had known about the show from the get-go so they wouldn't have gotten so close only to be torn apart, but I think (unfortunately) it did actually benefit the group in the long run because they had way better group chemistry, being so close and all
@immealldayeveryday94252 ай бұрын
At the end of the day rather live or not it was still a competition, and they would have just chosen who they thought they felt was right, I think the girls forgot that at the end of the day only 6 would make it, hearts would be broken no matter what

Regarding survival shows, the most draining and nerve wracking survival show I watched is I-Land (1) where Enhypen was created... It was draining so much that when the boys won, the winners didn't celebrate and were crying... I just felt bad to those guys cause they also have cctv like monitoring too... And the challenges really have them drained...

i’m curious whether people who voted during Dream Academy feel any different after watching Popstar Academy. watching the doc with zero knowledge of Katseye or DA beforehand it was soooo shocking to see who fans were and weren’t voting for. i wonder if the show runners regretted the way they handled things too; if they hadn’t tried to push the drama with the eliminations Lexie likely wouldn’t have left, and it’s clear she was becoming one of their top picks for the group. she was one of my favs too and while i 1000% respected and understood her decision it sucked to see her go!

i didn’t see this as a documentary that was there to promote katseye but a documentary to document the process of putting together a global group using processes that are unorthodox ti western music industry standards. which is why i think the documentary was critical of hybe and geffen

I think where the whole concept of this project went wrong is that they only focused on the music and dancing part of the girl group when they should of really made an emphasis on acting during the training process and challenges so they could then proceed to make a television show around the girls who made it into the group (kind of like big time rush) where we start the first episode off with someone who is new to the school rushing late to the school hall where the girl group of the school is about to perform at the assembly and then maybe an idea is we see during the performance that the girls are having issues and they then cancel the performance mid show and from there on the schools girl group members all quit which now means there’s a whole new girl group to be made before some big end of year thing and we see all the girls through the first season all auditioning and trying to get in the group where the finale ends on the big end of year school performance or something with the newly established pop star academy group Katseye and we also get other characters from the school in different social groups take a chance and try out to be in the group and even ones who don’t make the group they are all still apart of the cast. In season 2 there could be a whole plot where now that Katseye has been formed by the school we then get a fringe group of girls start their own unofficial girl group in the school where there’s a whole rivalry between the groups. Like imagine there’s so much drama and fear around auditioning for the group at the school against Katseye so you’ve got girls trying to recruit others from unlikely places and groups imagine there’s a whole plot of not going into the bush at the edge of the sports field but there’s a character who has a secret set up in there and could even become a place they secretly practice. Debut is the theme song Boarding school setting so it can also make a perfect setting for specials like Christmas and Halloween.

as a dancer, i actually felt that emily lacked texture in her dancing. she’s a powerhouse but it’s hard to keep attention on her if every single move is equally snappy & powerful. my dance coaches call it the milk & sprite of dancing. and emily was all sprite, no milk. i dont think she wouldve worked as a pop star at this current point. just my opinion tho.
@cerbzzz71472 ай бұрын
What did u think of ua's dancing? Since the doc said she's second after Emily
@emilyfishie2 ай бұрын
@@cerbzzz7147 ua’s lines arent as clean as emily’s. ua has cleaner angles. but utilizes less dimensions when she presents those angles (less visually interesting). she sometimes dances at the back of the beat (allows for more time between moves for audience to absorb her expressions) whereas emily attacks the beat for more impact. and both of them could work on texturizing their performance style i think ua’s dance style would be more suited for a girl group where everyone must blend in during certain parts of choreo. but her vocals suffer while dancing. so i can see why she didnt make it/isnt ready to debut

They were on good morning america and I think they were in amazon music interview, Billboard etc. I just wish they would do better with their visuals though, like style wise I mean. That right there will get the THE platform to stay relevant
