Karen o was at oberlin as a voice major. She is a phenomenal singer, and she was studying voice. I don’t understand how you can say the drummer played since he was 5, and than gloss over Karen’s extensive classical training. She would not have gotten into to Oberlin, otherwise. She wouldn’t have been able to sing the way she sings and not lose her voice. Coloratura soprano. Oberlin is a great school for musicians and artists. She trained and she sang in a rock band. Those things are not mutually exclusive.

Her background in studying classical voice at Oberlin doesn’t influence the music near as much as the drummers obvious Jazz school influence, as you can literally hear and see the jazz background coming thru in their music, not to mention the fact that he plays traditional grip as well. While Karen O’s vocals are much much more experimental, raw, and almost as far away from any traditional voice training that you can get.

So my 12 year old was randomly singing the MAPS chorus one day. I was like how do you know that song. I was told it was a new trend. Of course the trend butchered the song. But I quickly played the real deal for all of my children to learn. So happy when my kids embrace good music that I loved years ago.

@ Do you know why Gen Z rips off Millennial clothes? Because Millennials were the first generation to catalog their fashion on the Internet. And we all know Gen Z thinks that the world started with the Internet. Millennial and Gen X fashion was actually a lot more original because it was born out of actual function and utility. Gen Z doesn’t actually do anything but watch TikTok so they only know how to rip photos offline. I’ve also written similar contents on several different channels but Gen Z also doesn’t read. Gen Z is just the ripoff generation.

I was so obsessed with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs backin my early teen years. I was around 13/14 when I first heard "Maps" and it felt like a fever dream because I heard when I woke up really early one morning where I had left the TV on MTV and while half asleep, I heard that intro guitar and my ears perked up and I slowly woke up intrigued by the sound. It feels like a fever dream whenever I think back on it but needless to say, I was hooked on the song and shortly after bought the "Fever to Tell" album and listened to it so much during my freshman year of high school. Unfortunately I did kinda lose interest in them after "Show Your Bones", I remember liking "Zero" and "Heads Will Roll" but I just wasn't vibing with a lot of their later stuff when they moved into a more electronic sound and moved away from that garage-punk like sound they used to have but they'll always have a soft spot in my heart.

Love this band. Second only to Interpol or TV on the Radio, as far as my favorite 2000s New York bands go. And way better than the overrated over-hyped band The Strokes.

“Knocking Courtney love to the floor when she tried to hobnob with the band after the concert” 😂😂😂 I love both Karen and Courtney, I could never in a million years see Karen doing this, especially to Courtney… luckily the rumor was actually proven false by Karen, but still so random and hilarious to imagine how that event would have unfolded. 😂😂😂

their best album, really only album I enjoy is It's Blitz! per they were doing Art Rock with their sound. Karen also was great on the Where the Wild Things Are soundtrack, which of course she at 1 time dated WTWTA director Spike Jonze.

“At one point the group almost signed with Warner Brothers but Seymour Stein fell asleep at a dinner meeting.” You don’t feel like you need to elaborate more on that? At one point I almost had a job as a financial advisor but a bank manager took a nap in his car.
