Agreed, and it speaks to every generation of LGBTQ+ who see some of their experiences mirrored in the series and who wish that the positive outcomes could have been experienced by them years and decades ago. My husband and I, both in our late 50s, teared up at Nick’s coming out to his Mum. When we were that age back in the early 1980s, that was NEVER an option, especially with the AIDS crisis erupting throughout the community. We both wish we could have experienced that same support as Nick and Charlie received from their families and we wish we’d both had a sister like Tori for sibling support. We never become immersed in entertainment programming to anything close to this degree, but Heartstopper touches a very raw nerve in both of us in a thoroughly positive way. Thank you!

I honestly don’t think they’re doing it JUST for promotion. Nearly (not all) the entire cast is LGBTQIA+, and Joe and Kit literally just turned 18 during/after filming season 1 so going to Pride (London particularly) was both personal and professional. But I get what you’re saying. It would suck if they were forced by studios to only participate to promote the show. But what I’ve seen on other TikTok an YT shorts… looks like they’re going primarily for themselves!!

How exactly does Heartstopper speak to every generation of + people?
@JosephFerreiraJr Жыл бұрын
@@jasonthewatchmansson8873 I have current and former students from the past 30+ years of teaching who have become ardent fans because they see the show as both representing their own hopes (supportive families and networks of friends and schoolmates) and real experiences (being outed against their will, coming out and all of the challenges that presented to them, the bullies - of course - ). The show presents more seemingly supportive staff in the show than they experienced in real life where there were only a handful of either out or allied staff to support them. Older LGBTQ+ friends and retired colleagues (the Stonewall generation) who thought the show was just for young people have binge-watched and started talking about their own journeys and how they wished they’d had a more welcoming environment, keeping in mind their reference point includes having LGBTQ+ seen back in the ‘70s and earlier as a mental disorder and even criminal behaviour and talk about how what they experienced made it possible for this representation to take place in mainstream media. It’s unique in that I can have the exact same type of conversation with a high school teenager as I can with an 80+ retiree about how the show effects them. That’s never happened in my experience to this degree…
@jasonthewatchmansson8873 Жыл бұрын

Netflix - if you cancel this show I will cancel my subscription permanently. 🏳️🌈 I love the inclusiveness of the show without feeling forced. As a queer person myself I relate to the show so much. It may seem a fantasy world that everyone in this show seems to be part of the community, but honestly when I came out and started immersing myself in the community all of a sudden you realize queer people are everywhere and it can feel like they are the majority and straight people are the minority. Also, I was completely unaware at the time but in my high school I was naturally drawn to certain people and didn’t know until later every single person in my closer circle were part of the queer community
