Aemon never deserved what happened to him. It always makes me sad knowing what happened to the good Targaryens. Aemon was forced his entire life to watch as his family suffered from all manner of catastrophe only to see all of them wiped out for it. For all he knew he was the last of his line. A lone dragon at the end of the world left to obscurity and the history books. It also sucks for Barristan Selmy when you realize that despite how much he respected and supported Prince Rheagar. Especially so when you know that Robert being Robert would tell the story over and over about how he killed him most likely in front of him. To constantly be reminded of how he had failed and how his only living brother from that time had profaned the white cloak by murdering Aerys. Not that he had any idea of just what horrors Jamie prevented by doing so.
@Argos-xb8ek Жыл бұрын
@Carson Casmirri That's a reoccurring theme in characters in ASOIAF haunted by the choices they made that seemed honorable and right but cost them much more than they ever could've imagined. Aemon had to live throught the near extinction of his house unable to help them in anyway and in the books feels that he played a role in his dynasties destruction. Or Ned Stark trying to protect his daughter and before that protect the lives of children he deemed innocent of the crimes that made them he tried to spare Cersei and her children and it ended up getting him killed he tried to bring Theon up I'm his house and Theon ended up seizing and unintentionally sacking Winterfell. Jaime Lannister is another one
@warpedwhimsical Жыл бұрын
@@carsoncasmirri3874Aemon also had the burden of truly believing in prophecies that foretell the savior of the world would be born of his blood. He would not only have suffered great personal loss but also felt partially responsible for dooming mankind by not being there to protect Rhaegar and his heirs. At least until he hears of Daenerys and her dragons, which reignites a vigor in him at the age of 102. Such a sad but great character

Small Folk/Derry, Piper, Vance blaming Gregor Clegane for pillaging (last domino to start the War) 3. The burning of Mance Rayder 4. Lyn Corbray with the Lords Declarent (this one is explained by Littlefinger) 5. A comparison between Joffrey and Aerion is interesting. Firstly, while Joffrey is foolish and shortsighted Aerion is actually crazy enough to drink wildfire. But, on the other hand, Joffrey is a coward but Aerion has actual combat skills and enjoys jousting, serves with the Second Sons and performs deeds of note in the 3rd Blackfyre Rebellion. Also when he requests the Trial of Seven he doesn't seem to do so from fear of Dunc. It seems like he simply enjoys the trouble and chaos he's spreading.

Basically any comparison between him and some of the worst pos from the same universe (a universe notorious for being filled with human garbage) and he still ends up loosing. I cannot think of anyone, maybe Viserys? Even then I’m not sure. Even accounting for drunkness, it does take a degree of guts to threaten to cut Daenerys open in front of Drogo. It was utter stupidity, but even if I cannot imagine Joffrey doing that, it’s certainly not because it would be idiotic. Joffrey had the “luck” of dying young, I cannot fathom the proportion of the monstrous gutter vermin he would have been had he grew to the same age of Aegon IV or Mad Aerys.

The Dunk and Egg stories, particularly The Hedge Knight, is my favorite thing GRRM has ever written (including all his non-ASOIAF stuff). It really is the perfect distillation of the appeal of ASoIaF, by a GRRM at the height of his abilities, that also isn't bogged down by the infamous Mereenese knot - they're snappy little novellas that tell fun, self-contained tales with two likable protagonists in a world richly layered with history. I re-read or re-listen to the compiled book once every few months. It's one of the very few things I can revisit over and over without ever getting tired of them.
@keridinsmore51814 жыл бұрын
A girl is simple: she sees Alt Shift X, she clicks. side note, I think a miniseries adaptation of Dunk & Egg would have been a better idea than House of the Dragon at this point in time. aka, the material is already there, casual audiences would likely be more familiar with the names/houses/family members, and you don't need to drag GRRM out of his cabin in the mountains over consultation so he can finish. the damn. books
@keridinsmore51814 жыл бұрын
@Oyasumi a miniseries, not a multi-season full-fledged show on the same scale of GOT. three novellas plus material from AWOIAF is plenty for that type of idea. I understand GRRM has more novellas planned for Dunk & Egg to flesh out their lives in their entirety, but I think more people want him to finish TWOW (and someday start ADOS) with fewer distractions and commitments compared to what he got himself when GOT first began. I'm still excited for the spinoff series, I just think it's a massive undertaking so soon after the end of GOT compared to what they could have done with Dunk & Egg--not to mention how divisive GOT ended up being at the end because of diversions from the books and an unknown ending (whereas we have an ending of Dunk & Egg at Summerhall no matter what)

But rather this is side story that builds 2 characters who come across famous houses, even the Targaryens, and quests. That all builds them to notable-legendary characters in the GOT universe.

@Anjelica Snorcket I agree. He was great in the show. However, while I hate what happened to the show in later seasons, I do think that they did his character justice since Viserys did die due to his own arrogance and impatience in the novels at around the same time frame in the same way.

Ser Duncan is a true knight alongside Briene and Barristan compared to the other knights in Westeros. I love the theme that even though Duncan was never knighted he’s a knight at heart. The quote about all men are knights and all men are fools is true because being a knight can be considered foolish because you are risking your life for people you barely know and you could die yet it’s a good heart, mercy, chivalry, honoring women, bravery, and defending the helpless is what’s most important. Aerion I feel is an underrated villain because he represents the idea that just because your royal and knighted doesn’t mean your a good person. Also, Aerion getting upset about a puppet show depicting a heroic knight slaying an evil dragon is very petty. He harms an innocent woman for putting on a fictional puppet show. Duncan may not have been knighted but he’s a true knight at heart and even though Aerion is not a dragon there’s no doubt that he’s an evil dragon at heart. In a way, the tale of Ser Duncan and Aerion is the story of a brave heroic knight stopping an evil monstrous dragon in Westeros. Just my opinion.

Always read it that way that he was never knighted and it will be outed when he refuses to knight Egg only for I'm guessing someone super famous to knight them both or even Egg knighting Dunk

I also kind of like how, thematically, with Dunk being an ancestor of Brienne, Dunk wins his first major fight in his series by getting into a fistfight in the dirt, eschewing skill and training for raw grit and strength, something he's got in spades, and currying favor with the nobility; only for a for one of the nobles present to die unexpectedly. Just like how Brienne wins her first major fight by getting into a fist fight in the dirt, eschewing skill and training for raw grit and strength, something she's got in spades, and winning favor from the nobility... only for one of the nobles present to die unexpectedly (Renly Baratheon).
