What if Jaehaerys II died at the Tragedy of Summerhall instead of Duncan Targaryen? He refused the throne so he could marry a commoner named Jenny of Oldstones, but assuming she didn't survive (which it's implied by the Ghost of High Heart) would Duncan have taken the throne and remarried? There could have been alot of eligible noble ladies from the great houses, including Lyarra Stark. Alys Arryn and possibly Oberyn and Doran Martell's mother (there's no canon name for her so I'm going to say it was Nymeria) and I like to imagine the realm would have looked more stable under his rule, although I'm curious how the Tourney at Harrenhal would have gone if Lyarra ended up marrying Duncan instead of Rickard, which means no Lyanna for Rhaegar to kidnap/elope with (because she wouldn't exist) and potentially no rebellion because even if Rhaegar did find another highborn girl to knock up, I don't think Duncan would have burned her family alive when they came seeking justice. ...Or none of this would have happened and Aerys could have got the throne anyways because Duncan might have died fighting in the War of the Ninepenny Kings. Jaehaerys apparently wanted to go but was too weak and sickly to lead the crown's forces in battle and so it fell to Lord Ormund Baratheon who DID die fighting in the Stepstones whereas Duncan on the other hand was strong and healthy and a capable warrior so it's very possible he would have gone himself instead of delegating the task to someone else.
