As a Polish 90s kid, I used a Zenit with a 44M-4 as a toy for years and it’s still working. I’ve just ordered a M42 to NEX adapter to mount it to my Sony a7IV and can’t wait to give it a second life 📸

Hahaha! I love the intro, it was hilarious! I just got the lens last night, after watching so many videos about it on KZbin, got it for about $189 on eBay, exactly like yours, with the anamorphic mod. I'm using it on an EF mount, my MarkIV. Now although I have a few quite good cinema lens (not that expensive), but this is beautiful. I'm going to shoot something nice with it! Great video though!

I'm pretty sure the number of blades changed, first iterations had 13, then they changed to 8 or 6. The toneh on the helios is superb, as is the bokeh and I don't care what anyone says. Simon Utak did a very thorough analyses of the 44 series side by side and guess what- they all have virtually the same swirl.

Great info. Thank you! I have a "native" Helios from my 1980s Soviet days camera (Zenith). It is Helios 44M-6. Do you think it has the same characteristics as 44M-4? I am planning to mount it on my Panasonic GH5 for videos. Do you know any bloggers who compare different types of 44M?
@devinholz Жыл бұрын
That’s amazing! I can’t say I know much about the other Helios 44 lenses and I’ve never owned any others, but I do know that the glass is practically the same through the different variants. Some have more aperture blades than others, but optically they should be similar. Sadly I don’t know many other people who talk about these lenses.

Nice work, I enjoyed your video and your style. I’m definitely going to buy one of these helios lenses. I hope you will create more videos, very high quality content!

Thank you for the video. It is incorrect to say - a Russian lens. There were many republics and many nationalities in the Soviet Union. It is better to say the Soviet lens.

WFO you can't really frame the traditional left/right composition. edges are always to soft as we see in your examples.

Why is the bokeh so much bigger on the 58mm.... surely the proximity effect alone is not THAT dramatic?
