They are young and dream of easy money: more and more French people are falling into the trap of cocaine trafficking, directly recruited here by South American cartels. Their new destination: Peru where drugs are traded 20% cheaper than in Colombia.
Only for these French people the trip often stops at the airport and they end up in prison. Minimum sentence: eight years in prison. In Lima, Alain, Mickaël and Vincent are detained in Santa Clarita, the most overcrowded prison in the capital. Trafficking, odd jobs, racketeering: what are the rules for surviving in an extraordinary prison where money rules?
Among these new European smugglers, more and more women, often pregnant to go unnoticed. Lucie, recruited in Metz for 5,000 euros, saw her destiny shattered. To prevent prisoners from sinking into depression, the women's prison multiplies activities. But are the stretching classes, the beauty contests and the children's crèche enough to overcome the prison shock?
We followed these detainees and their families for a year. Who are these French people who took the risk of making money from drugs? What price are they paying today?
