I once heard the analogy that the lantern the hermit carries only lights a small space around him so that he can only see himself in the now without outside interference. This struck a cord with me and I always remember it this way. Very similar to what you are saying. I love how you have explained the hermit.

You mentioned the hermit sharing wisdom with the world. The card shows him holding a lit lamp while having his eyes closed in his isolated spot. I don't believe the lamp is for himself. Rather, it is for others to find the path in order to find their wisdom. It is a call to lead by example by showing the path but not the destination (which is unique for each person). That's where my intuition went with this. Love your interpretation and all of this series. It is incredible.

I live as an actual hermit- in the forest, off grid. When I do tarot for myself, I pull this card regularly. I am feeling the effects of too much alone time currently and not interacting with people enough. I am a very social person so this aspect of my lifestyle is very challenging. Whats been exceptionally hard dealing with this level of aloneness is the inability I have of “letting go of my ego”. I hear this advice a lot in the spiritual community yet no one discusses how it’s actually done. Also, if I’m focused on bringing light to the world, isn’t that me focusing on myself- ego? And I’m not suppose to do that. Very confusing. Not trying to be difficult or negative, this is where I am currently. Thanks for listening.

Born July 13th, I am attracted to The Empress, The Hermit, and The Death cards the most. I had a tarot reading once and it said that in one of my previous lives, I was a messenger of change and that I will continue to be so in this lifetime. The world may not understand me at first, be knocked down a hundred times, had to heal myself all by myself, etc. But in order to find this path, I first have to believe in myself because the greatest hindrance that blocks my vision, is no other but me.

Hello! I really enjoyed listening and watching your perspective on "The Hermit!" I am myself a hermit. I was born February 9th. Everything you said was absolutely right. I am this tarot card to the fullest when it come to the behavior of it. I like to look at the hermit as the tarot card of the subconscious mind. Being able to tap in to inner energies at the same time understanding the outer distractions. Its so funny because I lately have started understanding the meaning of the spirit and have come to realize that the hermit is in a positive light a human articulation and barer of our universal gifts through manifestation of the inner spirit.

I listen to binaural beats solfeggio frequencies. These help me with my meditation plus sitting in the power. And they help me with my ADHD and Aspergers which is mild. I find alpha delta and theta are great for meditation, beta wakes you up. I pulled the Hermit card out the other day. I found this card was helpful through what I am going through. I am learning the cards at the moment. I spend most of my time learning as with my mediumship. I think the Hermit card is telling me to look more into myself and take time out. It’s a year later, but, no matter what… I am The Hermit card, through and through. The card’s numerical placement in the Major Arcana is the 9th. My Birthdate is 9/9. I have been on inner journey for about a decade and discovered that I am the 9th card of tarot , as my consciousness expanded rapidly after I quit the mainstream way of life to live in seclusion at the edge of Himalayan forest for higher pursuits, which later developed into an ability of introspection therefore I don't have any matters from my past unresolved and able to live fully in the present moment without blaming anyone or holding grudge against anyone. I pulled the hermit when asking if a job would be the best job for me. I had an internship with the company before, and while I thought i did a great job, my supervisor told me i wouldn’t do great at the job full time. I applied to a job that would be at about the same level as her and i do feel like i am fully capable of doing it. It’s completely different from the path she told me i would be best at and once i pulled this card and finished this video i realized i was allowing her thoughts and projections to influence the decisions i made in my own life. I’m going to meditate more and journal more, but I see myself doing so much more than the original path i was taking. I have so much potential and i have a great future ahead of me. I just need to work towards what i want and tune out everyone else

I remember that card pop out in a reading when I was in a very troubled situation, I was so stressed and in a very critical state physically and mentally, I never meditated and took my time to go into "hermit" mode, which lead to consequences that drastically changed my destiny that are affecting me to this day. Thank you. I've always connected to the hermit too. I was a quiet child. Had some physical, emotional, and sexual trauma from childhood and led a mostly introspective lifestyle, although it was more worried about the external world harming me rather than in the internal world. I've felt connected to conscious, spiritual studies, and helping others throughout my journey. Went through yoga training to become a teacher, and I have yoga, fitness and bellydance videos here on youtube. I feel called to help women reconnect with the divine feminine essence within because I had to heal my own feminine wounds, and I see the benefit of that on a more global scale, for our society, and our relationship with Mother Earth. I painted a series of major arcana tarot in the feminine aspect to help women connect more to these concepts and see themselves inside of it. The hermit was a fun one to play with. Great video, again! Beeing a beginner, what I already noticed is that I really have to look carefully to see all the symbols on the cards. In this case the first I saw were the lantern, the stick, the dark robe and the bluegrey background colour. But then there is also a star in the lantern, which I never noticed before and the man is standing on top of a snow covered mountain. Snow covered mountain tops are also visible in the background. Maybe winter here is another symbol for the season nature (and people as well) start to draw forces back to the inside. Through some comments below here I also saw that his eyes are closed, so the light is indeed not for himself, but probably for others. Your interpretation of the cards are wonderful and all your questions go into my notebook. Thank you!

On a scale from 1 to 10 on how comfortable I am being alone without feeling lonely. I'd give myself a 9. I say that because I have anxiety and I feel like once I start having major anxiety attacks or feelings of anx it's then when I know I need to come back out from being inward in a different way than what I was doing before. So I don't think I'm always 100% comfortable being alone but I am able to be 100% alone and be ok.

Man born into the world is born into a state of ignorance from which he must ascend or which he must transcend by his own wisdom skill and understanding. This journey the hermit is on is one from his birth to his grave. By the time of his passing he has achieved the highest of highs. Having mastered all the previous cards and their meanings, as he now nears the end of his life, standing atop a mountain, the highest things in the world used as a metaphor for having reached the peak of spiritual attainment, his journey is complete. His eyes are closed to the ignorance and folly of the rabble of the crowd. He does not believe what he sees, for reality is born out of illusion. He therefore has no use for his eyes, as he is using the lamp light representing the inner or third eye as it is also know as. One might also look at the scene a little closer. As mankind stands at the peak of his wisdom, all will be taken away with the influence of Mercury. The planet of Intellect. The hermit then retreats, where he stays and essentially he becomes his namesake. Years spent studying the mysteries of his world and his interests, spurred on by his ever increasing intellect, he finally an old man in need of a walking aid, the stick in his other hand, his life almost over having spent it alone, finally if ever, he realized the curse of using intellect to selfishly try to advance or save ones own soul. How I saw the card.

About this card, I have been stagnant in my business from the time I started it. it's been long, I've tried everything, I have hired coaches, I have done self-healing & healing from others. I have done everything and grown 100x spiritually in the past year. I am so ready for something to move forward. But I get nothing but crickets. Hmmm... good question! They are very similar cards. I think of the 4 of Swords as being about quieting the mind and giving yourself a break from incessant thought - cultivating a calm, peaceful mind (this might include meditation and shutting out distractions). The Hermit is about alone time and nurturing the relationship you have with yourself (which may also include meditation). Hope that clears things up a bit!

I found your channel while searching for info on the Hermit. I identify deeply with this card. I am a Jimmy Page fan and Jimmy identifies with the card too as you can see on the inside fold out art on the Led Zeppelin IV album. The hermit is also featured in a scene from the live Zeppelin movie The Song Remains The Same. There seems to be several Tarot references in rock music that I have noticed. Some subtle and some outright.
