I so love the story on your grandfather's mantle clock movement - it's those stories and how you tell them that make me feel like I'm in your shop chatting with you - I think we all wish we could turn the clock back a bit - you are an extraordinary story teller and I look forward to each and every one of your videos - take care Ron!

It's always great to hear the "back story." My dad started fixing mechanical clocks for other folks on the dining room table in the early '70's. Seems like he was fixing them for free or parts only, as a result there was never a shortage of work to be done. I wish I'd sat and tinkered with him now. Thanks for sharing.

5:11 hahaha, you are funny! I enjoy all your videos. I grew up in a house with lots of movements, my father used to love all them....40 years later, those memories and chimes sounds come back to me and I really want to give it a try to one of this movements....I am an accomplished woodworker, so thats no the problem, but what concerns me a bit is about the clock mechanical part, like how to know to maintain the movement properly, tune ups, oiling and care....Do you have a book name recommendation where I can start learning about those movements?

Sorry, but no book. Now the internet is a gold mine of information. 👍

3:13 will you convert that back to mechanical?

I’m fascinated by your grandfathers clock, but I’m confused as to why you’d remove the movement from its original housing! It seems it would be much happier inside the case.
@roncalverley7 жыл бұрын
Yes, I suppose that I could reinstall it back to original, but this way the clock is always telling correct time. Most folks don't want to have to wind a clock any more --- too bad!
@lestergrenz50027 жыл бұрын
People to lazy to wind a nice old clock do not deserve to have it.

Killing time in this instance is actually "Story Time" so we'll forgive you 😀 Great to hear about how loved objects like the constant-bonging clock link generations to eachother.

I'm with you, turn back the clock. Back to the 50's would be ok. See ya tomorrow. JimE PS: I'm guessin' the conclusion will come about part 107. :-)
@roncalverley7 жыл бұрын
Hi Jim, If I could pick a time to go back, it would be be around 1962. But as Billy commented below, I'd want to know what I know now. Re: 107 If I don't stop reminiscing ---

Turn it back only if I could know what I know now.

Yes, wouldn't that be interesting.

I'm gonna say it again.... start a separate channel where you tell us stories. Just you and a camera and your stories. Patreon.com it, and I will subscribe. You have too much knowledge to risk being lost to the waves of time.

Hi Bob, I'm afraid that I'd very soon run out of stories, lol. But thanks! :)
