I've two Hessian ancestors. Karl and his son Heinrich Prinzhausen. Both defected and became immigrants. Couldn't be more proud.

The fact there were many German immigrants prior to the war shows the clashes. General Nicholas Herkimer, the militia general was a German. The rifles used by the American riflemen were a German influence. One of the volunteer militia units was made up of German immigrants and they wore uniforms very much like the ones that the Hessians might have worn. And there was an incident where one Hessian had a run in with a woman who was German who berated him for fighting against the Americans. I wouldn't be surprised if some even regarded these confrontations as fratricidal. The French also deployed Germans in their Army during the war and they had German on German confrontations during the Battle of Yorktown.

There is a spelling error or a translation error when the closed circuit is turned on. Around 1:30 - 1: 40, the translation comes up as Haitian, not as Hessian.
