You can get to this "better auto adjustment" faster by clicking the Auto button first, then shift clicking on Blacks and Whites. No need to do each slider individually.

I’m taking pictures as I travel quite a lot these days and processing thousands of raw files when I get home. I’m one of those who often use the Auto button and go from there. I often then fine tune white and black points and go from there if it doesn’t look right. I find that the Auto button sometimes takes exposure too far right, so I’ll double-click it to zero it and see if it needs anything more. This happens most with night scenes and dim cathedrals and castles.

The man with a million Lightroom tricks, thanks. I am mostly an "Auto" kind of guy, because I shoot products and bring back 100s from trade shows. I'm using Dehaze often though, because when the products are in a glass case, Dehaze will take off some of the glare. Noise Reduction helps a lot since I shoot without flash.

There's actually TWO ways of doing Auto, one of which definitely does Clarity as well. If you click the Auto that appears next to Tone in the Basic settings windows, then it will not do Clarity. However, there is also an Auto Settings Preset and it does do Clarity, oh and adds a Medium Contrast Tone Curve as well.

Interesting - but long winded, especially for a quick all-over adjustment. I agree with you that the white & black double click adjustments are better. So, much quicker to hit Auto and then double click the white and black sliders. Bingo! The whites and blacks change (just as you said) from the Auto button numbers. Much quicker!

All of his stuff is long winded. I think the longer the video the more revenue. He’s all about revenue. He repeats old content often when he can’t or doesn’t want to be bothered coming up with something new. His ostentatious and cheesy titles in the beginning give me nausea. In the beginning I used to get new stuff about Lightroom from him. But haven’t in a very long time. I came here and viewed this as a rarity. But it convinced me I need to unsubscribe from him and prune my subscription list. Bye bye Mister Photographer Dot Com the silly title man.

@@BillSmithBSartist Wow, why so angry about a free video you don't have to watch?
@BillSmithBSartist
@BillSmithBSartist Жыл бұрын
@@TimBWig Don’t assume anger when it’s just honest yet critical feedback. I used to love his stuff. Now he’s just clogging his channel trying to make money. It’s a shame. He’s ruined a good thing. I have no issue with him making money if he’s providing value. Value has dropped off considerably. And it’s not free content. I have to sit through ads if I don’t pay for KZbin premium. And the more long winded and repetitive, the more ads I watch and the more money he makes. That’s seems to be his business model now. In addition to his own ostentatious ads hawking his stuff. Tasteful is ok. I don’t find his ads tasteful. My opinion. You are quite correct in that I don’t have to watch and I, in fact have unsubscribed due to the drop off in value. Not out of spite. But I felt that Mr. Photographer should know that his tactics are noticed so he can tune his business model if he chooses. There. Is that better for you?

Some of us has know this feature for ages and are using it on a daily basis - BUT - If you really want to add to this you should have found an explanation why's the difference between the two AUTO methods - have tried to find an explanation myself - but until now without luck. Another issue is that when you are working with Color Passport Profiles the AUTO somehow smashes the calibration by changing the vibrance and saturation - would be smart if AUTO could be set not to touch these settings? 🙂

This is pretty much what I have done for about a year for most shots after I do Calibrations, Lens Corrections and White Balance. If it's a great shot I'll do more maybe go to plug ins but never Pre sets.

Interesting, I didn't know about that. As I have ACR rather than LR, I went to try it out and noticed that the slider names are pre-fixed with 'Auto' (e.g. Auto Exposure instead of just Exposure)when holding down the Shift key, and only a single click is required.

If you were to crop the image first, then you would end up with a totally different set of auto values to the original image. 😉

Hi, I have a bit love/hate relation to your videos (generally) :) I love that you show and technically explain (sometimes hidden or less known) features, but I hate you can talk about simple thing sooo long :) This feature could have been shown/explained in half a minute one a minute tops... Don't take it personally or as too much critique (possibly some people like it the way you do it), It is just my perspective ;)

Is there any way to save the "shift+double click" auto adjustments to a preset?
@oneeyedphotographer
@oneeyedphotographer Жыл бұрын
I would not think so, it's calculated from the specific image. But you could hit auto, and then propagate with sync. I don't remember how, I think you can also apply adjustments to a set of photos at once, not quite the same as sync.
