YOOOOOO Bach and gypsy jazz, that is basically my wheelhouse! Kevin if you are watching this, great job dude! Quoting bach has been a staple of gypsy musicians' toolkit since forever so seeing people make the same connection is so cool! There are a ton of great recordings of those worlds meeting, from the Franck Wolf Trio(featuring Marcell Loeffler, a relagive of Yorgui Loeffler and Bireli Lagrene, on accordion) playing partitas as jazz waltzes to the Fonó Ensemble's Vadbarokk album which explores the connection between the folk traditions of the Carpathian basin and baroque music and even features a rendition of the double violin concierto mixed with Transylvanian Sekler music. Im just so happy people are appriciating this music!

regarding a section / b section: if i get stuck after the a section, i'll often drop the project file or whatever completely and work on something else immediately, and that something will become the b section. more often than not, i find connections between that new idea and the last one, even if it needs a little adjusting to fit. it's not a free ticket every time, but it keeps the creativity flowing.

As a partially deaf musician (was born without the ability to perceive sound in left ear) I can confirm playing barefoot, or even without shoes, is an incredible way to experience the music in a live band setting. There are many many ways we perceive sound, and sometimes your ears or in my case ear is simply not enough to actually feel the music. Sometimes you quite literally have to touch it.

Good advice about the composition at the end! I'll never forget when I was sitting in a form and analysis class while studying for my Master's, and the professor, probably one of the more brilliant music theorists out there, described sonata form in extremely broad terms as "You have something, and then you have something else, and then you go back to the first something!" He was sort of joking about it...but...I mean, that describes A LOT of wonderful music, and not just sonata form. That idea of thinking about form in such broad terms really stuck with me and helped me work through a good number of my own compositional roadblocks.

It's fascinating: through the entire "spicy jazz from India" section, I got some tone/reed "issues" from the saxophone that I actually have been really self-conscious and aware of in my clarinet playing (you can hear some windy sound that isn't actually a note throughout the whole piece), but on sax (especially the lower register tenor sax), I actually really like the quote-unquote "imperfection" in the tone and I think it really fits the sound aesthetic (especially for the slow-ish jazz). Really actually kind of makes me rethink my goals for tone on clarinet...
