I also wanted to compliment you on this beautiful piece! One of my first introductions to Brazilian music was Sergio Mendes's "Brasileiro" and your piece reminded me so much of that album's last track, "Chorado". I've always loved it because of it's beautiful and haunting chords, and wordless vocal melody. That song would later guide me into discovering other amazing stuff like Clube da Esquina, and your music took me right back there! Awesome work, parabens :)

regarding a section / b section: if i get stuck after the a section, i'll often drop the project file or whatever completely and work on something else immediately, and that something will become the b section. more often than not, i find connections between that new idea and the last one, even if it needs a little adjusting to fit. it's not a free ticket every time, but it keeps the creativity flowing.

That face "lift" technique has an unexpected and immediate effect! She's right, it makes me feel silly and over-emotive, but it comes across more subtle to the viewer, and much smoother and richer to the listener.

YOOOOOO Bach and gypsy jazz, that is basically my wheelhouse! Kevin if you are watching this, great job dude! Quoting bach has been a staple of gypsy musicians' toolkit since forever so seeing people make the same connection is so cool! There are a ton of great recordings of those worlds meeting, from the Franck Wolf Trio(featuring Marcell Loeffler, a relagive of Yorgui Loeffler and Bireli Lagrene, on accordion) playing partitas as jazz waltzes to the Fonó Ensemble's Vadbarokk album which explores the connection between the folk traditions of the Carpathian basin and baroque music and even features a rendition of the double violin concierto mixed with Transylvanian Sekler music. Im just so happy people are appriciating this music!

Glad to see an appearance from MADAM Neely!! It sounds like she has dabbled in the Alexander Technique for singers?

Madam Neely began incorporating Andover Education and AT into singing about 1990. Cool that you recognized it!

@@Catefn HaHa! Thanks. You were great in this video (and the last one). I hope we get to see more of you in the future: maybe you’ll start your own Neely singing channel? I may know someone that you can ask for tips on how to be a successful KZbinr. As far as my recognition of AT: I have studied a bit of singing with the Alexander Technique - was about to start teacher training for AT but... corona - so it was somewhat familiar terrain, although I was not familiar with the specific points you were making. I am not familiar with Andover Education yet. Is it related to the Orff-Schulwerk method of teaching? ( My googling led me to this but the results are not wholly conclusive).

I forget if I said this overtly in a comment or if I just thought it, but I like that this has become "How to get good at music" and not "How not to suck at music." I think it's a much better vibe.

As a partially deaf musician (was born without the ability to perceive sound in left ear) I can confirm playing barefoot, or even without shoes, is an incredible way to experience the music in a live band setting. There are many many ways we perceive sound, and sometimes your ears or in my case ear is simply not enough to actually feel the music. Sometimes you quite literally have to touch it.

Really appreciate your simple suggestion regarding A vs B sections. I have hundreds of short pieces I can't figure out where to go next with, and I think I'll get a lot of use out of just trying to break the sections down into concepts like that and contrasting them.

something my guitar teacher taught me is that guitar players starting to learn jazz continue to use the intense rock vibrato that is so fun to play, but without any thought about it and with no purposeful effect

I once came up with a chord progression I liked but didn't know how to continue, so I tried just reversing the progression until I got back to the first chord again. It worked beautifully.

"Alright, i need to do the opposite of whatever it is I did." So what you're saying is that my instinctive reaction to that start of adding a bunch of overdrive and strumming some drawn out power-chords is actually a good idea.
