I purchased mine from Utah Trikes in 2015 for all of the reasons that they talked about. I can not walk a half a block and back home without my legs going numb. I can ride for hours with no discomfort whatsoever. My trike is the only form of exercise that I can do without pain. I love riding that I just bought myself an E- assist trike so that I can ride longer distances and more miles in the same amount of time. This video explains all of the benefits of riding a trike if you are a senior with some disability of some sort. I’m 67 years old now and I will not be giving up my trike anytime soon. Thank You for telling it like it is great video.

I bought an electric assist TerraTrike about 18 months ago. I’d not been able to ride an upright bicycle for some years due to arthritis and poor balance. It has really been great for me. I’ve ridden near home, gone to local bike trails, gone on some supported tours, and did a solo tour. I’m 73 and able to ride again. Slowly working out the best storage options and what to carry when I tour. It’s been a game changer. I can store it in my garage and I have a Chrysler Pacifica and can carry the trike inside the back of the Pacifica.

As a Catrike rider and owner I agree, but what usually doesn’t get said is that trikes are expensive to acquire and maintain, compared to a bike they are complicated , heavy machines that require significant storage space. But there is no doubt that if you can afford to own, maintain, store, and transport them, they are fantastic!🎉

Yesyesyes. Apartment living and recumbent triking don't mix well. My suv carries two folders at all times.

Delta planform steering is AS SIMPLE, and identical, to any 2-wheeled bicycle! No Front-End Steering Alignment required on a Delta trike... Rohloff gearbox is FAR-AND-AWAY the most- simple gear system EVER!!! No cassette adjusting! AND.., Rohloff gears are INDEXED INTERNALLY! Rohloff is NOT indexed by adjustments required by external, cable-shifted cassettes!!!!!! OUCH! Think about that! Think that factual logic through! Addressing everyone here, not just you, "Nord." Trikes ARE expensive! BUT..., buy ONLY one, once!!!

@@garyseckel295Thanks, it’s good to have this discussion. My Fuji Sagres lasted for twenty years, till my son bought me the Catrike . It cost less than my recent Catrike tuneup/maintenance!🤪

@@garyseckel295still comes down to size and expense. A rohloff costs close to $2k installed.

@@donedeal8385 Expensive yes, but once Rohloff, NEVER again any cassette! My Hase Lepus trikes have their Rohloff gearbox mounted in frame, not in any wheel! Also, no "tadpole disassembly" needed for a Rear Flat Tire on a delta planform trike!!! OH, YEAH!

Recumbent BIcycles are also great, when they have a the right handlebar design. Bacchetta (based in California) makes very good and safe 2 wheel comfortable and aerodynamic bicycles. I've been riding a Bacchetta Giro 26 since 2019, and it's been a thrill for grocery shopping (with under-seat rack and front pack), any in-city trip, and long distances too, like the 2×80km I did over Christmas to see family.

Age and injuries from my youth aka hand, shoulder and foot pain put me on a trike. Wish I had made the move years ago. My trike has put the fun back into pedaling.

I can imagine that with two front wheels and without the risk of falling forward or have the front wheel slip from underneath you, there is more breaking power in a trike vs a bike.

As a electric unicycle rider, only reason I would consider a trike is it's ability to ride in winter, other then that I would prefer a EUC in all other cases due to its small size, weight, speed, range, comfort. Theoretically I can ride in winter but it's a bit scary 😅

How much does your EUC weigh? My trike’s base weight is 35lbs (16kg).

No, I have never ridden a bike in my life. When growing up, bicycles were Not for poor people. Schools I went to, places I worked at, and places I shopped at, Never had bike racks to lock up your bikes at. Almost all never even had a place to lock your bike to. Now, having moved to a state and city that is bike friendly, I am physically not able to. Would get a trike, only problem is that my apartment building can't accommodate them. The door leading into the bike storage room is only big enough for a bicycle. You literally have to turn the handlebars to serpentine into the room. Unless you get a collapsible trike, the axle/wheels can't fit, if the wheels are small enough, you could turn it on the side. This defeats the reason to get a trike, especially if you have physical mobility issues. Then you have the racks in the room. They are set-up only for bicycles, not trikes. "Just bring it to your apartment," you say. Not allowed by the lease. You also can't leave it outside. Also against the lease. Even if it wasn't, it would be stripped down and/or stolen. Locks mean nothing. If the industry would just start pushing the information you gave to cities and landlords, that may be very helpful.

I lived in an appartement building where a trike rider rented with several other people a garage, to park his trike.

Thanks for that perspective! I love my Catrike, especially now, after my stroke, but there certainly are severe limitations to owning a recumbent trike that the ‘industry’ conveniently neglects to talk about!🤪

Possibly look up "Diblasi" folding trike. Different seat and seat with seat back options. Gets BOTH very short and very narrow for getting into living space!

More benefits of a trike: 1. Stable track on the road, no zig-zag like a bicycle. 2. Mirrors therefor are also stable, so a good view toward the rear. 3. Trikes can be used as holiday long distance tours. Under heavy loads the trike never tips over like a loaded bike. 4. Towing a trailer is possible too. Especially with an E--trike. Saves gas money and more fun. 5. Flying with a trike is no problem, Just fold it up, cover the protruding parts with bubble wrap and deflate the tires. Tie the loose seat to the frame.

Another benefit of a delta trike: No "tadpole" rear-wheel, flat-tire disassembly needed, if Easiest-To-Fix flat tire occurs on ANY delta trike tire!!! Hmmm.... Own BOTH Tadpoles and Delta trikes here, with over 30-years of recumbent experience!

Ever more possible Trike benefits: Indirect Steering, WITH upper arms vertical, is FAR better than direct steering. Horizontal reaching of arms both forward and outward, (direct steering) is tiring. Notice touring bulk at rear of trikes. Both touring cargo and rider's torso at rear of trike. Delta planform trikes have most tires/suspension where needed most. Rear Flat Tire on a delta planform trike requires NO "tadpole" Disassembly!!! "Hase" trikes makes BOTH Folders, AND, Vertically-Upright storable trikes! Plan ahead: My 25-inch seat-height "Lepus" model is slidable from/to a wheelchair and/or forearm crutches!!! Also, once Rohloff gearbox shifting, NEVER again cassette shifting. E-assist, 2WD, and optional independent rear wheel suspension! Over 30+ years recumbent experience here... Way less than 5% of all trike riders need a tadpole trike's "Sportscar Handling." (I never see more-easily-tipped-over, jacked-up vehicles.., tipped over.) Never outgrow a delta planform trike. Grow oldest on a delta planform trike. Gary AKA: "Jason Stillwater" in the recumbent world.

If you’re buying a trike make sure you get ELECTRIC ASSIST. Trikes do not climb good at all.
