Japan has 2 Izumo class LHD. China has 4 and a 5th larger one is being built. These are like jeep carriers and except for the latest Chinese iteration as the 076 class LHD lack And, lets not forget China has 2 full sized carriers plus a third undergoing sea trials and a fourth and fifth starting construction. The fifth Chinese LHD will have EMALS and arresting gear to handle non-STOL aircraft. Japan, up to about 5 years ago was focused on home defense, so most of its navy is not meant for blue water operations. Japan is no contest vs China, in all classes of ships and submarines. China did not miss Japan, but the bigger threat that it has focused on is the US military with its soldiers, ships, airfleet, and equipment based in Japan, South Korea, Australia, and now the Philippines.

S Korea & Australia also have/building LHDs; France & UK will be deploying their carriers to China Seas/W Pac too, besides the US, while N Korea & Russia have no such ships in the region.

@@Steven-k8t Indeed. Russia purchased two from France (Mistrial) but France refused to deliver. Russia has contracted for two domestically, of 40,000 tons, Project 23900. NK is basically a brown water navy, though it has small landing boats and hovercrafts.

you forget Japan isn't the only 1s they would be taking on, their allies Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the Philippines, Taiwan, and the USA thats why you have them for, Australia and Japan have the latest and greatest in naval power and Australia is currently building new ships and submarines, you don't think they have a plan about what they would do if China wanted to cause problems, especially if they want to invade Taiwan their is no way in hell will the USA let China do that
