I used to be a people pleaser but after many breakups,being cheateed on, and the getting ghosted by a best friend i started going the opposite direction and was preparing to be hated just because i knew i wasnt gonna do it again. Then i met my gf and now its more balanced. To all my fellow people pleasers try to strike a balance or its gonna destroy you and turn you into something very evil.

I use to be a people pleaser, the sad, harsh trush is. i didn't even know i was a people pleaser, but when i realized it, it made me upset, mad, careless. So i took matter into my own hand and craft a new purpose in life and i call it... the road of winning. Now it will be hard and not fair but, its for my own good cause im not going to make my life miserable just so i can make someone happy.

I was raised in an environment where I was devalued. It took me years - decades - to see this because it wasn't overt. It was through the subtext of "normal" interactions that conveyed the message that I was less than, that I was undeserving, that I shouldn't speak up for myself because my needs were unreasonable. That led to me being a desperate pleaser in my adult life, which led to some terrible consequences. My own children are almost all grown (my youngest is still in high school), and I when I reflect through the eyes of a parent, I realize how awful it was. I would never dream of treating my children the way I was treated.

@RelaxCreatorMary all abuse is a lie. Everyone has value and deserves to be treated with care and respect. The key is to see the past for what it was, to recognize the lies. Sadly, the next step is acknowledging how hurtful those lies were so you aren't still carrying that pain around, like boxes of junk in your attic. You have to purge it from your soul to live a life of honest reality going forward. The medicine can be quite bitter, but remember, you are moving toward the light. 💜

It reminds me of “It’s a wonderful life”, where George became extremely frustrated at himself for keeping people pleasing others, even random strangers, at the expense of his own dreams, with that money theft being the last straw, thinking that his life doesn’t matter if he can no longer people and achieve his goals at the same time. So it is rewarding and cathartic to see all the people he helped throughout his life, helping him back in his darkest hour.

The more and more videos I watch on this channel, the more I relate, and realize just how many issues I had been dealing with, that I didn’t even know about, since they were repressed and not dealt with in a healthy way for all those years, since childhood, even though I’m not 18 yet myself. But Stephen’s story really hits close to home. I remember my family environment was harsh and dysfunctional, with loud fights all the time, whether it was due to money or whatever, and my parent’s behavior was abusive and ignorant, and I didn’t even know it. But because I was still only a small child at that time, it affected my behavior negatively, making me overly sensitive and prone to emotional outbursts. That affected my life at school as well, where I would be bullied and judged unfairly for things not in my control, and because I couldn’t express myself properly, it felt like no one could truly understand me, due to how I felt unsafe both at home and at school, and it caused me to spiral down into depression before my age was even in the double digits, and I was about to develop serious tendencies because of that. It was because I would remember my few understanding friends, as well as all the things I wanted to do later on, like all the games I’ve wanted to play etc. that stuff is what held me together in those times. It also especially hit hard when Stephen brought up how it’s because he’s afraid that his girlfriend will stop loving him, as I could totally relate to that as well. Feeling afraid that the people in your life would leave you behind if you don’t keep them around yourself. I’ve remembered the times where it felt like my friends in elementary school would just feel forced to keep me around due to how I couldn’t fit in, and due to my behavioral issues back then. I remember them even indirectly pushing me away at one point. I felt like a misfit most of the time, and I felt like I should earn people’s attention by “being nice” to them, and not being a hassle to deal with. That’s another thing I had, where I would feel afraid of being a burden on the other person, and doubt if I really am worth it. Because, mentioning my parents’ abusive behavior and my chaotic family environment from my childhood, one of the things, was that I didn’t even know until recently, that my father would gaslight me a bit too much, even though I knew how damaging his behavior was to me. But it was one of the major reasons for my low self-esteem. I still experience some things from time to time, and my life at home and school is better now, even if there are still some problems, and even though I’ve improved myself in that aspect now, it takes a lot to learn to say no, when it’s things like these which influence your “people pleaser” tendencies, as another thing is that one would be too shy to ask for help in matters like these.

I was a HEAVY people pleaser. I would do anything for my ex even if it mentally drained me. I would treat his own problems as my own. I would basically become his therapist. I would drop whatever I was doing to help him if he was going through a depressive episode, because I felt responsible for it since I was his girlfriend. I would do countless research on how to help him with his mental issues even though he didn't wanna put in the effort himself (he never went to a therapist). I was afraid that if I didn't help him, he'd accuse me of not caring about him or not loving him. I also don't really have many friends irl, and I crave to be understood and accepted by others. I said yes to everything my online friends asked of me cuz I didn't wanna upset them and cuz I was worried if I said no, they wouldn't wanna be my friend anymore. I don't quite remember how I got out of people pleasing, but all I remember is I set limits for myself and put myself first. With my friends, I would always be there for them if they needed to vent to someone, even if I was doing shitty myself, which drained me a lot. So what I did was say to myself "I don't always have to help people. I come first before anyone else. If I'm not in the right headspace to help someone, that's perfectly ok. If they don't understand that, that's their problem. They could ask someone else. I shouldn't sacrifice my own well-being for someone else". Of course, it was hard. I felt a lot of guilt/shame when setting limits, but it paid off.
@TheBestLoser1

This was me for the longest time. I sacrificed so much for other people, only to have no friends and no close relationships with anyone. A lot of the "friends" I had were fake, and I ended up getting heavily betrayed by so many people. I ended up closing others off for months, out of shame and guilt. I was so focused on avoiding conflict because of how I was raised. When I displeased my parents in any way, my dad in particular would grow way too angry about it. Sometimes he'd get mad because I couldn't help him right away, and then he'd act like I'm intentionally disrespecting him by not helping him do tiny things ASAP. Nowadays, I started getting real help and I am making real friends. I stopped pleasing people just for the sake of avoiding conflict. I still don't have any close relationships, nor do I have a girlfriend or anything, but it's fine. I know it will take time. I'm working towards this and I am trying to fix relationships I accidentally broke due to my trauma.

But ever since I was young I always voiced out my true thoughts. I just lost that side of me because of some reasons but thankfully I am able to regain that strength in me again. i do my best to help people that i see are trapped in that situation by giving them their strength to the best of my abilities. I hope things are well for you right now. And I don’t mean to sound cynical, but that fact that you said “former”, implies that they’ve ditched you because you don’t help them anymore, or that you cut them off yourself. I know I shouldn’t assume stuff, and that the way you presented yourself about it, may have affected this outcome, but still, that doesn’t change the fact that it’s making it rather evident that they only kept you around because you helped them, and not because you were a “good friend”, otherwise they may have tried to reach out to you in some way. And so, they’re the ones in the wrong about it, if you’ve been cut off. I’m sorry if what I’m saying sounds judgmental or if I’m assuming wrong. But what I mean to say is, do not blame yourself for it. It was clearly not in your control if you acted erratically about it.

I’m a people pleaser. I made friends with one person and the group they were previously in. A few months after I became GOOD friends with the person I kept being told by the group how my friend would ‘bully’ them in the past. I personally believe the friend just didnt realise what they were saying was hurting them cause I asked what they knew and they just looked stressed upon being told why people don’t like them. Now I have to pick the group of people and can’t be friends with the ‘bully’ but I want to be friends with ALL. Idk if I’m just trying to make the person happy by being their friend or if its that I just know them better than others and know they can’t help their behaviour most likely due to their traumatic childhood. I so badly want to be their friend again but I feel awful cause now I’m hanging out with the group more, they talk about the ‘bully’ more to me yet I still so badly want things to go back to normal, my heart aches seeing them sit alone

I once spent 30 years of my nearly 49 years on this planet pleasing my family and trying to be cool in order to wow people. I wore the family name and things that had the Union Jack. I was hiding my true self from the world. Back in 2016, I've decided that enough was enough and that I was going to be myself from that point on. It's been worth it.

There was a song I learned at summer camp when I was a kid about putting others before myself, or me being “Third”. (God is first, the other man second, and I am third) As an adult, I’m not sure about the whole “God” thing, (“The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing”) but I can definitely look back on things and see myself as a people pleaser. I can definitely see how this could have added to some of the stress I have experienced in my life, but would I change anything? Nah.

I'm sorry to hear that you're going through such a challenging situation with your dad. It can be difficult when there's fear and intimidation in a relationship, especially with a loved one. If you feel comfortable, consider seeking support from other family members, or a mental health professional who can provide guidance on navigating difficult relationships and help you find ways to express your feelings in a safe environment.

Regarding your post a few minutes ago, have you tried combining animation with a real person as a host and make it into an informative "did you know" video approach? This is just a suggestion. Another suggestion would be making a sequence of videos and turning it into a game, like at the end of a video the viewer could choose an answer to the question posted and he/she would be linked into another video

I have a question I like to help others and make them happy. It's hard for me to say no, but I say no occasionally. I don't have a problem being alone and it gives me peace and the possibility to think about things. I don't feel like I need anything to be happy, but helping others gives me more joy than anything. I like to invest in myself and invest in others with the results Is it a people pleaser or not? doing it hurts me sometimes but because people take advantage of me and think it's stupid to help others but probably it's just because of my environment
@aiiiia9971
@aiiiia9971 Жыл бұрын
It's not stupid to be a compassionate person. It is beautiful to want to make others happy. However, if you know that someone is taking advantage of you and you are allowing it to happen, you may want to assess why. What are you afraid of? Why are you afraid? What can you do to change the situation? Learning to set boundaries will not make you a less compassionate person. It will ensure that you are well enough to give when you can, and your self worth won't depend on other people as much.

If people are taking advantage of you and making you out to be offensive/ evil/ guitly/ opressive for standing up and asserting yourself then yes... You're a people pleaser. Don't let people emotionally control you because unfortunately, people do try to do that.

@@liamcraddock9539 I think you missed the point. I know manipulation, body language, and I can easily find out who is taking advantage of me, I hate to use it and it just hurts me to know that people can really do such a thing to a person who gives them everything and helps them to see them happy, I talked about my past, it wasn't so nice (my childhood) I am currently working on myself, I stopped helping others after I went through this, I want to return to it in the future, but it will be after I am mentally and physically strong, You did a terrible thing to myself to stop helping others But I don't want to say more than that, it's a bit private But thanks for the help and I will be happy to receive an answer that is adapted to what I mean Like if I'm still considered a people pleaser in this way or not 🙃

Luckily, I've improved a lot now, im definitely much more confident and that did NOT happen in 1.42 seconds.

I am not sure if it is related to the subject of the video directly. however, it bothers me because I really don't know the reason. so, I had 4 close friends before, and I was acting the same towards them. like you know, just being myself. unfortunately, due to some circumstances, we ended up being in different countries, far from each other, and in the end, we lost communication.. so now I have a best friend. we became friends a year ago. and I noticed that I am no longer acting the same as I did with these 4 friends. I feel like I was more open back then. she is a really good person, we have a lot of similarities, and she doesn't do anything that would upset me. but for some reason, I just don't feel so happy and energetic around her. she, btw, is that person from a video (people pleaser, I say it because she is up for everything, you know). And I just don't feel like I'm me around her. that is just so bizarre to me, since I think we are similar (in terms of personality), like I ised to be that sunshine, but now it's not like that, and I'm frustrated about it, because I know that I would feel much happier and energetic, being that "past" me. so confusing ..
