It's a Medieval festival celebrating the love between Doña Inés de Castro & Don Pedro Cruz. Lovely town, I really enjoy this type of video, thanks for going to so much trouble for us, especially in 35 degs. Cheers.
@EdMcF14 ай бұрын
Inés de Castro was the Galician lover of the future King Pedro of Portugal, who was murdered by Pedro's father. Not sure if this has much resonance in Albuquerque. It was as Prof. Saraiva said, the greatest love story in history, far eclipsing Romeo and Juliet.

Love Extremadura. I was *this* close to being an extremeño rather than a murciano when moving to Spain 25 years ago.
@shelaghmoore-h4f3 ай бұрын
I did it the other way., Spent 15 years in Extremadura and now 5 in Murcia, and I would go back tomorrow. Murcia is possibly the Ugliest region in Spain, filled with expratz, and Extremadura is one of the most beautiful with None at all,. Lol

Hi Stu, thanks for the tour of Extermadura. Beautiful town.

Living in Lisbon, I have had many opportunities to travel through the extremadura on my way to Madrid, etc. I think it’s a fascinating province with a lot of history, including ancient history. The small city of Merida, was the center of Roman power in Iberia. It has amazing ancient Roman architecture. It’s like an archaeological dig. Their museum is really good for a smaller size city with not probably a big budget. Caceres is also a very pretty town up in the mountains with medieval walls and etc.. It’s a nice town to stroll through. It’s unfortunate that this province has such little attention paid to it. I’ve heard local resident say that the rest of Spain has forgotten them.

Well, Extremadura is always in my mind. It is the poorest region in Spain and it is scarcely populated (around one million people in two big provinces). It is full of amazing places like that one you mentioned of Mérida (Augusta Emerita is its Roman old name). The northern mountainous side of Cáceres province is my favourite place in Extremadura. Indeed, this area is basically unknown for foreigners, off from the more touristic beaten tracks, full of history, splendid nature, excellent cousine and friendly people. Prices are dirt cheap. The vast interior of Spain is where I also like to explore, I find it relaxing. From Madrid it is easy to reach many places, roads are quite good in most of the cases.

Most of them like it that way. Yes, they could do with better infrastructure, but they have seen what that costs. They are a proud, independent lot, who keep their old ways and traditions alive. There is a Lot of cross border connection and intermarriage. Being borderlands, places have swapped countries quite often.

I thought you didn't like fiestas! I must say, that video was one of your better ones. That medieval festival looked amazing and fun for everyone involved. You said you were in a rush........who's in a rush in Spain? Albuquerque looks like a great destination to visit. Thx for that great tour, Stu.

I appreciate this first hand POV videos, they show reality as it is. I’m sure we would probably disagree on some politics, but these videos are an honest look at Spain as it is. I’ll be in other parts of Spain soon and would happily stand you a drink. Thank you.

Like many cities in the United States, it was founded by Spaniards. Its ruler, in 1706, was Francisco Fernandez de la Cueva, Duke of Albuquerque, in Spain, and the same name was given to the American city.

Stu do you think traffic was bad for the festival or just normal?
@diegodejuan48254 ай бұрын
I would say that is a lot of traffic for a village like that, it was caused by people flocking into the village for the festivity. In the evening surely it is worse, when temperatures drop.

Does anyone know why Stu is blurring the faces of some people but not others? He is filming in public, the people are there at random. So it provokes the question why does he have to blur peoples faces? And why is he blurring some but not all? What is this European paranoia with photons?

He's blurring kids. There are some adults in Extremadura hence not all are blurred
@pboperations4 ай бұрын
@bsmith6646 He blurred adults on their own, not just kids. Either way they are all in public and incidental to the video. Why blur them? What is his perceived worry? Even the news doesnt blur people. I would say societally driven self censorship.
