As long as Westbrook can imitate the role of what Bruce Brown did on the team, Nuggets bench would be much better. He doesn't have to be Brown Brown, but he just needs to bring that hustle, defense, and aggression when attacking the rim like Bruce did. That's all the Nuggets need from him. If he does all that consistently, he would already be better than Reggie Jackson. Everything else he does would be a bonus like his playmaking skills and the ability to run the fast break which he is better at than both Bruce Brown and Reggie Jackson. He's also one of the best rebounding guards in the league. So by promoting Braun to the starting lineup and having Westbrook be the backup PG, Nuggets no doubt will be one of the best rebounding teams in the league. The only real downside to Russ's game is his shooting inconsistencies which I think can be minimized in the Nugget's offense.
@HmellyeggsАй бұрын

As long as Russ is mostly on the ball, his shooting splits will be fine for a guard. He's never going to be a 35-38% 3pt shooter but he also won't be taking many of those shots per game, if he is on the ball and not his team's #1 or #2 scoring option. Russ will run the floor and get guys open shots when he is on the ball. So it will be up to Coach Malone to put high efficiency players on the floor with Russ. So MPJ, Murray, Gordon, and Jokic make the most sense playing next to Russ, which means he should be a starter with Murray moving to sg. Using staggered minutes, i would use Jokic and Murray more with the younger inconsistent scorers who are likely to be inefficient. There could be some five out minutes using Russ, Saric, MPJ, Strawther, and maybe Murray or Braun......but i would use Jokic more with the reserves early in the game and with the starters late 3rd/early 4th..... I would be trying to get a big lead by the early 4th and getting Jokic and Murray off the floor. Keeping Jokic and Murray fresh for the postseason run should be priority number one!

The really crazy thing is that the conversation before their championship season was in how they weren't quite as good as the year before... they had some 'retreads' like KCP, Bruce Brown and 'Uncle' Jeff Green, etc. they they won... now the talk really feels similar... 'oh they lost too many good pieces (despite having 4 out of the 5 starters from that Championship team) and they don't have enough depth and talent on the bench'. Well... look at their roster position by position and then look at the other teams in the Western Conference... I can't really say any team looks better or deeper.

Watching Denvers 1st preseason game, the Westbrook fit in Denver seems to fit very well. Granite its 1 preseason game but I think his specific skill set at this stage of his career will definitely benefit the nuggets after what they've lost so far.
@brandonbeason6038Ай бұрын
If Denver can just end up being able to use their bench players enough to avoid some injuries, and exhaustion they will return to being the monster. People don't realize just how good their core 3-4 players are. They only need a serviceable bench to help spell them in the long 82 game season. They definitely got better even though people aren't seeing it. Westbrook getting 12 a game immediately improves their bench. Last year they had games where there entire bench wasn't getting 12pts. Add in Saric to spell Jokic, and let a few young guys play 1 year older. Our bench might actually get us an average of 20-25 a game now and play enough minutes to help Denver stay rested.
@Him671-y9dАй бұрын
I'm just confused why KCP is such a big loss especially given that Russell scored more than him in 9 less minutes with 1% fg reduction compared to KCP, had a lower defensive rating, rebounded and assisted more in less minutes. So I'm very bemused by this entire narrative that the KCP loss is as colossal as it is ostensibly reported.

@@Him671-y9d I know they can be good shooters specially strawther but in the playoffs Braun didn’t shoot amazing. And kcp was extremely valuable not to the point where they can’t be contenders but we are going to need those 3 young guys to step up which I believe they will

Looking at the unrealistically optimistic comments by the nuggets fans here, it looks like there will be a big big gap between what they expect now vs what they will pan out. Imagine this: following the championship run, the franchise lost their key sixth man and their starting SG in the following year because they simply can’t afford the bill. They then resign the second best player in the championship run that are plagued by incessant injuries with a soon to be very onerously big contract. Don’t be surprised they will lose their starting PF by the end of the season. With not much money left, they just went for a washed out former all star which has zero offensive capability everywhere in the court - including 3 feet away from the basket. And they believe he can lead a bench unit which has questionable outside shooting. When you see a franchise doing these, a sensible person would have lowered their expectations to a more realistic level. Not really. Because they believe the franchise is making a “shrewd” move, because “Jokic makes him better”, something that LBJ, KD, Harden, Kawhi and PG cannot do because these franchises “disrespected” and “misused” him. Sounds familiar? Yes. That’s exactly what the lakers fans believed when Russ joined the lakers and the clippers fans when Russ joined. Dear Nuggets fans. Enjoy Russ “energy” for as long as it takes. That’s the level of player your franchise deserves.

Over dribbled, couldn’t defend, average passer ( he would struggle to make that entry or bounce pass to jokic) can’t rebound, & so when his shots weren’t falling ( which was often) he was contributing nothing. Russ has things he can contribute regardless if his shot’s falling or not.
