Theory 1: the Golem theory: The shulker appears to be made of endstone and purpur(chorus), and shulkers have two specific abilities; teleportation and levitation. Chorus fruit is the source of all teleportation (besides dimensional portals), so we can assume that the end stone is the source of the levitation. End stone islands float, the end portals in the strongholds defy gravity, and the end citys and ships do the same. So shulkers are likely man made golems made to protect some sort of structure (the end cities) in the same way that Iron golems (villages), Snow golems (igloos), the Wither (fortresses), Gaurdians (ocean monuments), and Elder Gaurdians (ocean monuments) are. Theory 2: The Pest theory: Based on the context clues of shulker boxes being a useful tool for storage as well as the shulkers ability to clone themselves, it seems pretty likely that shulkers are pests that infested the shulkerboxes that were used as the storage for the end cities, in a similar vein to hermitcrabs or mimics. Assuming shulkers use the storage shells to hide and dont actually produce them themselves, then suddenly shulkers seem possibly related to silverfish and endermites in some way, but instead of hiding in stone or pearls, they hide in shulker boxes. They are about the same size as those two, and can multiply just the same, where hundreds of silverfish can infest large areas of stone just from one single original silverfish. Endermites also appear to possibly be made of purpur, the same material the shulker hides in. Using all of this information alongside the shulkers hostility towards players and it becomes obvious that the shulker is infact a pest that infested the end cities, and completely took over after the builders dissappearance. The one caveat being shulkers arent weak to bane of arthropods, which if it were a bug or crab like theorized, it would. Theory 3: this wifeory: Similar to theory 1, but based on matpats dragon hunter theory. Theory 4: the Shulker God Conspiracy: Guys you have to believe me im not crazy! Im not im not im not! The shulkers really ARE the source of ALL life in the cosmos, they visited the overworld eons ago, and gifted humble villagers the power to create. How can i prove this? Well clearly the shulkers themselves have the ability to create matter from thin air, in specific they can create a living block, themselves! They made the villagers they made the dragon they made the cities, the end is entirely made out of them, the endstone is just their heads, the chorus is their shells! Its all so obvious! How could we not see it sooner??? I cant be wrong, this is exactly how they intended. The blue and green voices in the credits? You know what else can be blue or green? The shulkers!! Its all so clear, can you see? Can you see? The shulkers are coming for us Can you hear? The shulkers are speaking to us Can you feel? The shulkers are within us Can you taste the blood Can you smell the blood we're rising to heaven but the levitation hurts so much is this real are we real we are real this is real we are shulkers this is shulkers Everything is shulkers.
