@Peggy, sorry I missed your message. A preservation fund is 1 option for approved funds. If you are aiming at resigning, your Financial Planner must consider all approved fund options and help you choose the one best suited to your needs

My nephew who works for PIC says that my Gepf funds would normally laat for seven years and that beyond that I'll still have a guaranteed income. I told him that if i resign from Gepf,invest and take an income that's less than my growth I'll never run out of money and on death I'll leave a legacy. My resignation benefit is just over 5.5M. Gepf offers me an annuity of 38K/month with a gratuity of R1.8M. If i take the resignation route and take a cash amount of R1.5 M what can be my realistic monthly income?

Retirement will be your best option. Resignation would never generate a monthly pension of R38k. To enable a monthly pension of R38k you will require +- R11m capital with 4% growth! Furthermore, your pension is guaranteed to increase annually by at least 75% of cpi. This will happen for the rest of your life and passed on to your spouse/partner on your passing. Invest the R1.5m for your legacy. The R1.5 will also qualify for pre ‘98 exemption. Tax will be minimal in comparison to R1.5 gratuity payout.
