This has been my favourite vid. so far. The fact that you wrote "Trehn", the tongue in cheek (but also serious) plec. self-promotion, referring to yourself as "The Yorkshire hobbit", hanging out at Oakworth and the KWVR like a Sid Vicious styled extra from "The Railway Children", working out how to open a gate latch, self-deprecating tumbles, feeling the wind up your "knackers", the legalities of crossing railway lines, vandalism (in the name of self-promotion), touring round Holmfirth to the LOTSW soundtrack, going to see The Undertones and getting obviously piddly and then finishing by not posting the actual outcome of the video and giving everyone the V's in DEFIANCE. Lol. This has been definitely more entertaining than a lot of the other BEHS channels. 😊👍🏻

Apparently, a QEII old-pence coin would be 97% Cu, 0.5% Sn, 2.5% Zn if from the '60s or 95.5-3-1.5 if from the 50s. Meanwhile, a Loonie is a nickel slug with a bronze plating that works out to be a non-homogeneous 91.5% Ni, 7.5% Cu, 1% Sn. And since 2012, they're apparently steel slugs with a brass plating. I don't know what relevance that has. But observe my obsessiveness.

I have some old Canadian pennies lying around somewhere (they've been discontinued back in 2012), might try flattening one out. Different picks for different tones. These days I've been leaning towards textured aluminum Teckpicks from Dunlop. One of the best picks I ever used was cut out from one of the leses of a pair of 3D movie glasses with an XActo knife using a freebie pick from Guitar Center as the template.
@stephenfoley12615 ай бұрын
0.96 is too much for me. I max out at 0.72.
@barrybrevik91784 ай бұрын
Textured aluminum?! Wow, I gotta try that! I have made a point of trying out (almost) every pick I can find, including guitar picks, and over the past 37 years, I have tried a lot of picks. My opinion only is that any pick made from Delrin, Nylon, Celluloid, etc, that is less than 1 mm thick feels wrong, and sounds like crap on my bass with round wound strings. I have found several great picks, but my current favorite is the V-PICKS "1980" model, which is made from acrylic, and is 2.7 mm thick. But textured aluminum?! I will most certainly search it out! Thank you for the tip!

Dude, You are hilarious and a great behs player. That is a rare combination of talents. I have never used a pick when I play behs, But I think I'm gonna give it a go. Here in South Florida we have a high speed rail line known as "Brightline". About once a month some genius thinks they can cross in front of a train doing 120 miles an hour and the results are predictable. Lots of carnage. I being a person of below average intelligence, will attempt to place an old penny on the tracks without trying out for a Darwin Award. Wish me luck.

@julianmorrisco4 ай бұрын
Ok. In all seriousness. This kid is the best bassist I’ve seen on KZbin. Not the most widdly widdly tappety tapetty, no. Yawn. I imagine Sapko could do all that if he wanted, maybe with a short scale. (Sorry, cheap short person joke). But he just has incredible feel as we said in the 80s. Groove, pocket. Timing. Taste. Whatever. Magnificent. I’ve seen people develop feel through experience but it’s rare. I suspect they always had it but their technique didn’t allow them to show it. No, and I’m sure this isn’t universal, but feel is, in my experience, a bit of a talent thing. As in you have it or you don’t. But I have seen people with very little work well with poor materials, so all is not lost. And most people have it, enough of it, somewhere. Just not as much as the Yorkshire Little Ripper here. I’ve been in one band with a bassist who had a similar touch and it was heaven to have him take my rather pedestrian bass lines (at the time, I’ve improved, largely thanks to learning from Tony) and turn those lines into magic. Often he barely changed the notes I’d written but his feel was so good and the small fills and tweaks he’d make were an object lesson in the meaning of bass. Young Danny here gives me the same feeling when he plays. It makes me want to play in a band again, even though I know maybe 75% of bands don’t click. That doesn’t mean only 25% of bands are any good, rather there’s a special something when you get the right combo and it’s electrifying. Bass playing with feel as good as Sapko’s is a definite prerequisite. Although I’ve only been in one band with a bassist that good, I’ve recorded a few after I moved from musician to record company engineer in 1988. I’ve been lucky and although I play a few instruments, mostly fairly badly, my love of bass has informed everything I play and I strive for groove over everything else. I’d be more than satisfied to even come close to the level of this guy.
@999theshug5 ай бұрын
Just watched your interview with those two guys. Nice to see a bass player on KZbin whose head isn’t up his arse, are you listening to Charles B’. You should check out Derek Forbes of 1970s and 80s Simple Minds for a bass driven band. Cheers. Still waiting for my BEHS picks.
