I started on a FCBD or LCSD...and grab some indies, or dig deep on the 50 cent and $1 bins, but what really helped me was going through the Eisner, Ringo, Hugo awards nominees. Now, an aspect that I really enjoy of indies above mainstream is the accessibility of the writers and artists.
